I literally finished this last night...

And I loved it.

So

So much

The Daughter of Smoke and Bone follows our main character Karou. With her natural blue hair, her inhuman beauty, and her sketchbooks full of the scariest monsters of all time, she has to go through a lot.

But, the monsters in her sketchbook?

They're real.

And that's not a spoiler, it says that in the first chapter.

I loved the fantastical feel of this book, but I may be biased because I love fantasy novels, and I loved the writing. The writing was gorgeous. I absolutely loved it.

Can I marry Akiva? Not only is he an angel, he's so sweet and handsome and UGH.

Karou was definitely my favorite in this book I LOVED HER SO MUCH OMGS.

With the thing about the wings on her wall and Brimstone getting upset about it, I kinda assumed that Angels were bad in this book. Or that Brimstone and all the others were bad, and they hated the Angels. But now, I see it's also FORESHADOWING!!! It's a hint about how Karou used to have wings!

And, when she wished for flight, I wondered why she was so good at it too. Akiva was like "What the heck, girl, you literally just learned to fly and now you've mastered it" BUT IT WAS BECAUSE SHE HAD FLOWN A LOT IN HER OTHER LIFE BECAUSE SHE USED TO HAVE WINGS!!!

And then Karou ditches Akiva. I understand, he just murdered her only family, but he thought they had killed you! At least she could have been like "This isn't going to work out, but I need your help to get to the magic Serephim land so you can tag along because otherwise I'm going to die." BUT NOOOOOOO HER STUBBORNNESS GOT IN THE WAY AND NOW SHES GOING TO BE KILLED. But, I understand that she was in love with him and she isn't going to risk him being a weakness to her.

BUT DO YOU REALLY THINK BRIMSTONE IS DEAD?!?! DO YOU?!?!

HES THE MOST POWERFUL SORCERER LIVING. I THINK HE CAN GET AWAY FROM AN ANGEL BEFORE IT KILLS HIM. OR AT LEAST ISSA. SOMEONE IS GOING TO RESURRECT THEM, KAROU.
