Title: Hidden Lineage

Author: SmartPocky

Synopsis:

"Now, Susse. You know it's dangerous to use your powers around Werewolves." Her mother lectures, chastising the girl for her actions,

"Mommy, I was sneaky with it, like you guys!" Little Jocelyn yells, talking in her mother's native tongue...

"Do you think one day I can be skillful as you and Grandma were?" Jocelyn questions...

Jocelyn Jones, a sixteen-year-old lovable-half ass-Lycan hybrid that leads a normal life with her eighteen-year-old best friend, Derange in the pack lands. In the long run, Jocelyn wants to set an adventure for herself by finding out about her Mother's whereabouts and her ancestral origins, but fate has a funny way of showing it when Derange and her are removed from their home to a different pack for her ancestral origins and maybe a few other friends.

But that's not all the gigantic obstacles, that come her way. After all, she is teenager.

My opinions:

- First of all, I love that there is variety in the characters. I'll leave it as that and let you debate what I meant when I say 'variety'. But really though, it's good to see another book with characters coming from a different background than the norm I see. Kudos to you SmartPocky!

 - The fact that the characters would speak in a foreign language (I think it's Haitian Creole? I hope I'm right but do correct me if I'm wrong!) other than English at certain times made the chapters more vibrant. It allowed me to see what kind of background the character has and makes it easier for me to imagine how the character looks like even without a description about them (albeit the fact that I tend to imagine a stereotypical-looking person from that country in my brain because I suck at picturing people's faces). So... good job! Also, I always love it when a book uses more than one language. I find it intriguing when a character speaks more than just English because to me, languages are beautiful. For example a character can be simply speaking something like, "Can you make me a snack?" and suddenly switch to... let's say Mandarin, and say, "我喜欢吃苹果。( wǒ xǐhuān chī píngguǒ. Translation: I like to eat apples.)"

- Just a quick note, when writing about temperatures (regardless of what type of temperature you're talking about), do mention whether it's in degrees Fahrenheit or in degrees Celsius because your readers come from all parts of the world and different countries use different ways to measure the temperature. Some use degrees F while some use oC so it would be good if you could mention whether its F or in oC! :)

- I don't know if it's my wattpad glitching but some parts of the story is missing? Like some sentences are cut off right in the middle which makes the flow of the story become really weird. Here, I'll give you an example:

See the line where the sentence suddenly ends with 'hit my'? The rest of the sentence is gone. SmartPocky do let me know if it's just my wattpad glitching or if that is supposed to be cut halfway on purpose. :)

- You tend to use the wrong name for a specific character's POV. For some chapters where it's in Jocelyn's POV, you would end up making let's say her father, call her as Valerie instead of Jocelyn. It doesn't affect the story much but it can confuse readers and make then wonder on whose POV of the chapter are they actually reading. Do be careful when addressing your character and keep in mind on whose POV is being used for the chapter.

- Your story is good but there are some areas where you tend to go a bit too fast in terms of the events. An example is that you could have described a little about how she felt when she was getting treated for coming into contact with wolvesbane before starting to write about Jocelyn preparing Valerie's birthday gift. Maybe you could slow down a little bit and add some extra details here and there just to give some events a 'closure' so as to say. I think it'll make your story flow better. :) But overall your story is interesting and can keep readers engaged in it.

Star Rating:

☆☆☆

Recommendations:

Good for everyone to read! I gave 3 stars for now because the story isn't finished yet and much more of the plot is yet to be revealed so Character development is relatively consistent and the characters have diverse personalities that you can relate to. Though it's a werewolf story, the portrayal of the characters' animal side is not much so even if you're not a big fan of werewolves, you can still enjoy the story.

Thank you for requesting SmartPocky. :)
