1. A thousand splendid suns.

First of all I'd love to start the series with this particular book. It was a gift from my cousin sister during a book exchange. I have never read any of the works of Khaled Hosseini before but all I hear from people are praises about him.

When I first started reading this book, I had no idea about the storyline because I haven't google it. I usually goggle books before I buy them or read them but for some reasons I thought I'd surprise myself & I'm glad, I didn't google it.

This book revolves around two Afghani women Mariam & Laila who both married the same man Rasheed. They were both child brides.

The first part of the book revolves around Mariam, we see how this young girl blames herself for her mother's death and how at the gentle age of fifteen she's married off to a man in his thirties, who had lost his wife and son. The mistreatment, torture and heartbreak that Mariam had to face breaks my heart. So much was taken away from her & till the end life had failed her.

Rasheed marries Laila fifteen, when Mariam was on her thirties. But Laila too face the same fate as Mariam soon. The only thing good about the life of these two strong women was their friendship that turns into a bond stronger than blood.

The never ending wars, the rule of the Talibans. The horrors—that all Afghani women & children's faced couldn't be expressed in words.

I don't want to give much of the story away because it's worth the read. There's a Mariam & Laila out there & Khaled had done a fabulous job in bringing these characters to life. I was very impressed because he understood the pains and struggles of women & wrote it down so beautifully, that anyone who reads this book will be deeply moved.

I rate it five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & one day, hopefully 🤞🏻 it'll turn into a movie.

Instead of making all those cringy movies & series, producers & directors need to make these kind of movies, which touches the soul.

I can't wait to read more of Khaled's book & review them :)

Ps:- the cover really compliments the book.

Supermarket flowers by Ed Sheeran, really catches the story of Miriam & Laila for me, so I'd love to dedicate it to them.

I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill
I threw the day old tea from the cup
Packed up the photo album Matthew had made
Memories of a life that's been loved
Took the get well soon cards and stuffed animals
Poured the old ginger beer down the sink
Dad always told me, "Don't you cry when you're down"
But mum, there's a tear every time that I blink
Oh I'm in pieces, it's tearing me up, but I know
A heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved
So I'll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah
You're home
Fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up
Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case
John says he'd drive then put his hand on my cheek
And wiped a tear from the side of my face
I hope that I see the world as you did 'cause I know
A life with love is a life that's been lived
So I'll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah
You're home
Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
You got to see the person I have become
Spread your wings and I know
That when God took you back he said Hallelujah
You're home
