Unoriginal is Boring
First of all, "I don't openly diss anyone but if they feel targeted, then it's their own problem." Now that we got that out of the way...
Why doesn't anyone say this? Unoriginal stories are REALLY boring!!! Or maybe I should describe it as... it gets old. It gets really, really old. The same damn thing happens in all of them, and it's so boring.
The number of times I've seen bad-boy--good-boy high school fanfiction is probably over 100. It's boring now. The typical bad boy doesn't follow the rules; always late to class, skips, is rude, is a bully. The good boy is usually the rule-follower or the nerd. Either the bad boy bullies the good boy, or the bad boy decides to save the good boy from bullies or SOMETHING of that nature. It's so unoriginal that it's painfully boring to read.
Which brings me to the next boring plot: nerd x idiot. Just... at least make it original. Please. Add something nobody else has to it, I swear. Everyone writes about the tutoring thing. Stop. Hajima.
Coffee shop stories... Lord help. These are everywhere to the point where the words "caramel macchiato" make me want to bash my head into the wall (even though I enjoy a caramel macchiato every now and then.) I mean, some coffee shop stories try really hard to be the unique, but let's face it, they're still all the same.
Daddy-kink-based fanfiction. I see it EVERYWHERE now and it's like, jfk. It wouldn't be so bad if it was more of a subtle thing, but for some reason everyone seems to think that it's cool to base and entire story around it and I'm like, please stop. Save it for bedroom scenes or at least make a decent plot. "Call me Daddy everywhere we go" k bye
Someone with an (inaccurately portrayed) serious mental disorder gets helped by a regular human being. Okay, these are on my nerves because of you're going to write about someone with a mood or personality disorder, phobia, developmental disorder, "-mania," etc. AT LEAST FUCKING RESEARCH IT. Maybe if I didn't spend a month studying the various mental disorders for no reason at all, I wouldn't mind the inaccuracy so much. But I do. I hate it. It makes me want to point out everything wrong that the writer wrote. Most fiction with mental disorders that aren't depression, mood, or eating-related is inaccurate and therefor, those inaccurate fictions are LAME and overdone. Find a new plot or do your research thanks. Hell, ASK ME. Refer people to me. I'll happily educate those who lack the knowledge. I'm so desperate for accuracy oml. I could go on about this for hours. It's so fucking boring without accuracy istg.
Inaccurately described drug interactions are lame af, too. If you're gonna write about someone who does drugs, research it. Research how the drug affects people and maybe even read real people's experiences with the drug, whatever it be. Why? Because it makes the writer look stupid (fact) and I, once again, want to correct them. The most typical plot goes: drug user meets non-drug user and non-drug user EASILY helps drug-user get clean... or the drug-user willingly goes clean for the other guy bc they're in love. Because it's just that easy to quit drugs, right? That's the usual jist and it's lame. Inaccurate druggies are overused in stories and they're beyond boring now. Same with inaccurate alcoholic fics. Do your research or else it'll be lame as fuck.
WATER YOU WAITING FOR, GARY!!! AWWW STUCK IN A TREE? IT'S TIME TO CLEAN UP YOUR ACT, GARY!
Gosh I'm watching Spongebob and I cannot help myself. I don't even wanna remove this from my rant because #trash. Anywho...
Text fics/social media fics are SO overdone that there's no such thing as a unique text fanfiction anymore. "Oops, wrong number," "I've stalked your social media for so long," "Wow your pics are hot," "Let's meet in real life." Chatroom fics aren't even fanfiction, like, don't argue. Don't even try to argue because I will break something. It's overdone and BORING.
Mpreg. All Mpreg-based stories are the same and if I keep going on about this one, I will end up typing out an anatomy essay on the reproductive system of males. Plus it's not even surprising when the writer throws in Mpreg outta nowhere. It happens way too often for it to be interesting anymore. I'll stop here.
You okay Patrick?
FINLAAAAAND!
*facepalms*
My hands don't contain enough digits to count the number of soul mate stories out there where someone is colorblind until they meet "the one" or where there's some type of marking (such as a barcode or numbers) on either person's body. Whether it be that they find each other and live happily ever after, or they never find one another and rebel against the norm, it's the same damn thing. It's also boring. The first one I ever read was great, but then suddenly I saw them everywhere and I was just like
'Kay so I THINK that I've gone over all that I care to go over now. NOW...
So I've read how people have said that it's not plagiarising unless the words are copied word-for-word. Well guess what? It still sounds the same. Why worry about plagiarising someone when you're recreating a story that will end up being copied so many times that they're all equally boring. Did that even make sense? Idc. It's everywhere; copied fanfics. Everyone copies everyone else's stories and it's just so repetitive and boring. I end up seeing the exact same things written over and over and over again because nobody knows how to add elements of surprise anymore. Sighs
Stories without any plot whatsoever are, for a lack of better words, pretty lame. I would know because I've written one and I think it's the worst story I've ever seen in my whole life. Without a plot, the story is empty as Hell, and empty things are rather boring and unsatisfactory, no matter how good it seems to be.
Maybe I'm just a critical person and I'm the only one who sees the repetitive pattern in BTS Fanfiction. Maybe nobody else is brave enough to post their harsh opinions anywhere. It's possible that no one else is bored with reading the same thing over and over again. Regardless, this is what's happening. This 'rant' or whatever is my opinion BACKED UP WITH FACTS FROM MONTHS OF RESEARCH (aka reading fanfiction lol), so don't blow it off as me hating. I'm not hating, I'm pointing out what everyone else is afraid to point out.
Again,
"I don't openly diss anyone but if they feel targeted, then it's their own problem."
