I can't sleep tonight
Wide awake and so confused
Everything's in line
But I am bruised
I need a voice to echo
I need a light to take me home
I kinda need a hero
Is it you?
A man crashed to the ground in pain. His wound too much to stand. He put his hand over it, and felt his blood seep through his fingers. Every movement caused him pure agony.
He wasn't sure if it was all a dream. Such a predicament seemed impossible for him. He was the one who always saved the day. Now it looked as if he was the one who needed a hero.
I never see the forest for the trees
I could really use your melody
Baby I'm a little blind
I think it's time for you to find me
Can you be my nightingale?
Sing to me
I know you're there
You could be my sanity
Bring me peace
Sing me to sleep
Say you'll be my nightingale
Somebody speak to me
Cause I'm feeling like hell
Need you to answer me
I'm overwhelmed
I need a voice to echo
I need a light to take me home
I need a star to follow
I don't know
A face appeared in his memory. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her (h/t) (h/c) hair. Her (e/c) eyes. Her smile. Her laughs that would be so rare. Her visits to him were fleeting, but he had fallen in love none the less. She was the light of his life...
I never see the forest for the trees
I could really use your melody
Baby I'm a little blind
I think it's time for you to find me
Can you be my nightingale?
Sing to me
I know you're there
You could be my sanity
Bring me peace
Sing me to sleep
Say you'll be my nightingale
I don't know what I'd do without you
Your words are like a whisper cutting through
As long as you are with me here tonight
I'm good
Every moment without her, was more painful then the present moment. He needed her with him. Right now, this very second. All he wanted, was to hear her whisper in his ear. To tell him how much she loved him back.
Can you be my nightingale?
Feels so close
I know you're there
Oh, nightingale
Sing to me
I know you're there
'Cause baby you're my sanity
You bring me peace
Sing me to sleep
Say you'll be my nightingale
"Y/N...," the man uttered. "Y/N... I know you can hear me... I'm dying Y/N..." The man gasped in pain. His blood started to pool around him. His head rested against the hard ground. His eyes started to glaze over, when a stranger pulled him up against them. The man couldn't move to see them, but he knew who it was. "Y/N...?" He asked the question he already knew the answer to. The stranger didn't reply, but a hot tear fell onto the man's face.
He spoke again, "Y/N, I know your there..." She finally came into view as she bent over, and stroked his face. Tears dripped from her eyes, and she tried to wipe them off. She choked out, "I know. I'm here now. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. I didn't get here in time. I should have been here. I should have saved you..." The man stared at her for a moment, and placed his hand on her cheek. She sobbed, as she brought her hand up to his. She shakily brushed her hand against his, but pulled it away in shame.
She looked into his eyes, and saw an unreadable look. Before she realized what he would do, he pulled her face towards his, and placed his lips against hers. Tears streamed down her face faster than before, but she returned the kiss.
They pulled away much too quickly, but the man never took his hand from her cheek. He held her gaze and fiercely told her, "This is not your fault, Y/N. It's not your job to save me. You have a life, and now you can stay there. You can move on, and forget about me." She violently shook her head. "No! It was my job. I promised myself..." She paused in regret, then continued, "I don't want to stay in my life, that was the point! I don't want to move on...! And I will never forget about you!!"
He continued to stare at her with that look. Finally, he whispered, "Sing to me." She tilted her head in questioning, "What?" Tears welled up in her eyes again. The man swiped his thumb across her tear streaked cheek. He spoke up this time, "Sing to me. Sing me to sleep. Be my nightingale." Fresh tears spilled over, and she nodded hesitantly.
His nightingale began to sing.

"Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere I would've followed you (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something..."
His nightingale finished her song, and looked down at the man she loved. He smiled up at her beautiful face, that he would never forget. With a smile still on his face, he closed his eyes.
The girl cried. She cried for every moment she didn't spend with him, and never would. She cried for every stupid time she had refused to stay. For every moment she could have admitted how she felt, but never did. She cried for every kiss they could have shared, but never would.
If only she had been there. If only she could save him. This couldn't be happening. Not to her. She couldn't lose him.
She looked up at the sky. A mangled sob, almost like a scream, ripped out of her throat. It wasn't anything comprehendible, just a sound of pain. And that pain would never leave her.
The Nightingale realized that the look in his eyes was love...
