The Forbidden Fruit

Using Prompt # 3 You fall in love with a person you met online .One day you found their gender only to be astounded and confused.

Being an introvert, Naksh could not gather courage to talk to a girl in real world.

One day he was lazily scrolling through his Facebook account. He saw a friend request from a beautiful girl called Daksha and his heart did a happy dance. He immediately accepted the request and in no time Naksh fell for Daksha. He finally finds love for himself

Naksh chatted to her day and night. They would either text on Facebook or talked through phone calls .

Naksh loved Daksha's sweet voice as melodious as a Cuckoo. Naksh liked everything about her , the way she talked, her beautiful blue eyes which were as deep as an ocean, her smile showed her beautiful pearl teeth. She looked like an angel on Earth.

Sixth months passed quickly. Both Naksh and Daksha fell madly in love with each other. Naksh discussed the topic of Daksha to his parents.

Soon both the families met, and instantly a connection formed between the two families. Daksha looked happy while her parents urged for an immediate engagement.

Naksh's parents agreed and both got engaged. Everything was going okay until one evening. That evening Daksha and Naksh went out for a coffee date but Naksh's sister Navya too accompanied them.

As they were sipping coffee, Navya asked Daksha come to the washroom with her. Navya spoke out in the washroom," Didi, I need a sanitary napkin. Can you help me please ? I got an unannounced period ".

Daksha looked Navya with astonishment as if Navya spoke out Greek. Daksha nodded to her and she went out. She asked Naksh to buy her some sanitary napkins.

Naksh went to a nearby medical shop along with Daksha . She bought the required Sanitary Napkins. On the way back to the café Daksha blurted out absent-mindedly, Thank God I don't have these periods that must be tough".

Naksh got puzzled, and he questioned, what do you mean, you didn't get periods, aren't you yourself a woman?".

Daksha eye's didn't meet Naksh's eyes as she replied guiltily, "I am a transgender ".

"Just get lost, Daksha!" Naksh shouted in rage and disgust, he was astounded. Daksha ran away with teary eyes, she took an auto rickshaw to her home.

Naksh returned to the café and then drove to his home with his sister. The signal went red at the cross-section.

As Naksh was waiting for the signal to turn green, a transgender came towards the car window and asked for some money. Naksh felt angry, he shouted at the transgender," Bloody creature go away ! Beg at another place, How dare you touch my car with your filthy hands !".

The transgender was hurt by rude remarks, her eyes were glistening with tears. Daksha apologized immediately, "I am so sorry for my brother's behaviour, he is stressed by something at work. Please take this and bless us with good wishes ". Daksha handed a 2 thousand rupee note to the transgender.

The transgender replied, "This amount is too much for people like us". Daksha replied," Please take the money and bless us ".

The transgender spoke out,"May the lord grant long and healthy life to both of you". She then went away with a bright smile on her.

Naksh rushed the car anger in anger and frustration. Daksha asked him to slow down but in a fit of rage, he kept increasing the speed.

A truck came from the wrong side, and it rammed into Naksh's car. The car flipped multiple times before stopping, overturned.

The eyewitnesses of the accident claimed that the people would be dead by now as the car looked like a crushed paper.

Miraculously, Naksh and Navya survived the nasty accident. Both recovered and returned home.

One day Navya spoke out," Bhai(Brother) it is because of that transgender's blessing of life that we survived otherwise we would have died"

Naksh replied," Nonsense ! Life and Death is not in their hands". Naksh hated the fact that he loved a girl who was actually transgender. But still his heart craved for Daksha .

Naksh tried every possible way to erase Daksha's memories from his heart, but he just couldn't forget her. Each night he got dreams of him and Daksha living together happily." I hate transgenders, the fact that I loved Daksha a transgender makes me cringe at my stupidity but at the same time I feel attracted towards Daksha like a Forbidden Fruit ".

Navya knew that her brother loved Daksha unconditionally. She conversed with Naksh," That day you told me that transgenders has no role in saving our lives but let me tell you that Ardhanarisvara is the androgynous form of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati ,Mohini is the female form of Vishnu who appeared to help gods in reattaining elixir of immortality from demons. The divine has made transgenders with a purpose, they are made to bless people with their powerful blessings. They are gifted with power to bless or curse people".

Naksh spoke out, "Will you accept my wife if she turns out to be transgender? ".Navya felt dumb folded for a few seconds then she spoke out," Love matters, if you love her then it won't be a problem for me ".

Naksh then told Navya about Daksha .Navya smiled and said, How cool is that! No periods, no expenses for menstruation stuff! Look bro it's alright, just marry her".

Naksh was amazed by Navya's reply. He smiled and hugged his sister and said," Thanks Navya, I promise I will attain my Forbidden Fruit, my Love Daksha ".

Naksh told his family about Daksha's gender. Naksh's parents disagreed with Naksh's decision, stating that he would lead an unhappy life with a transgender wife with no children. Secondly, they wanted an heir of their next generation which Daksha could not fulfill.

Naksh declared," I love Daksha's soul not her body ,I will marry Daksha or else nobody !". For several months, Naksh's parents didn't talk to him .

On the hand, Naksh kept searching for his Forbidden Fruit. He finally found that Daksha was living on her own in London.

Naksh went to London. He left no stone unturned to get Daksha back. Finally, Daksha agreed to marry Naksh, both of them returned to India, and they got married in a court marriage among friends of Daksha and Naksh .

Naksh's parents disowned him in anger. Daksha and Naksh started their married life. Many people mocked their decision, Daksha got humiliated for not being a complete woman .Naksh too faced harsh criticism for marrying a transgender, some even questioned Naksh's masculinity.

Many years passed Daksha often felt lonely and as women often taunted her that she couldn't be mother. Naksh understood what Daksha felt. He urged Daksha to adopt kids .Daksha felt happy on his decision.

The adoptive centers were uncertain if a transgender could be a good mother. Naksh and Daksha were returning disheartened from an orphanage when they heard the cry of a baby from a garbage dump.

They spotted a baby boy abandoned in the garbage. Naksh and Daksha's heart melted, they thought to raise this boy as their son.

A few years passed, Naksh and Daksha got settled in Australia. Now this little boy Amrit turned 5. Naksh established a good Indian restaurant while Daksha opened Ahsaas (Feelings) an NGO for LGBTQ community where she helped people who got alienated for having an alternate gender or different sexual choices.

Day by day both Naksh and Daksha prospered. Now Daksha became a well known social activist while Naksh's restaurent became famous. Financially, both became strong and influential.

Amrit got the best lifestyle and lovely parents who loved him unconditionally.
Life seemed a bliss for the couple until they received a call from Navya who informed that their mother suffered a kidney failure and Navya could not donate her kidney being diabetic like her father.

Daksha and Naksh returned to India. Unfortunately, Naksh's blood group didn't match up with his mother. "Please check my blood group too, I will donate my kidney to my mother in law" Daksha urged the doctor.

All these were done. Surprisingly, Daksha was found to be a compatible donor. Finally, the transplant happened and Daksha's mother was saved.
"Mom you called Daksha jinxed but see today she saved your life. We both are living happily with our son Amrit whom we adopted. Listen, some relations are bound by heart, they don't need a blood relation. Gender can't define a person's, rather the purity of heart matters. Today your children were unable to save you but Daksha whom you tagged childless and barren saved your life like your real daughter"Naksh calmly explained his mother Antara .

Anatara was astonished, She could not speak a word as emotions overwhelmed her senses. She hugged Daksha, and she said,"I was wrong as I thought you are as a Forbidden Fruit. You are a gift to our family. Forgive me, daughter".

Daksha and Antara hugged each other. Everyone again started living together. Navya asked Daksha to do all the rituals of her wedding as she thought Daksha was a lucky charm for her, and she wanted blessings from her sister-in-law Daksha.

The family lived happily without paying attention to the people of the society who condemned this relationship. Daksha again started running an NGO. Naksh too started a chain of restaurants inspired from his Australian restaurant. This restaurant became a celebrity favourite in Mumbai.

Daksha often got amazed that she was living in a metropolitan city Mumbai but still she saw people objecting her gender, discriminating her on basis of her gender. She thought to create awareness among people.

She rigorously worked for transgenders in India. Often she got invited for seminars and speeches.

One day she got an invitation from the school where her son Amrit studied. She was asked to speak on the topic, 'What do Transgenders need ?'.

Naksh encouraged Daksha to deliver the speech. Daksha stood in the auditorium packed with teenagers.

She started her speech "Good Morning everyone, I am Daksha Aggarwal. Today I am here to speak on the topic "What do Transgenders need?" . Before starting anything, let me inform you all that I am a transgender too. So, I guess I am the most suitable person to share my opinion".

Daksha continued," God has made everyone. Some are male, some are female while some are transgenders. I grew up as a normal kid. But as I reached the age of marriage I felt anxious as I thought now who will marry me. This thought haunted me day and night. I was staying at a girl's hostel during my graduation, one day my roommate got to know that I am a transgender as she noticed I never had periods. I was shunned and thrown out of the hostel. Every day at college was filled with humiliation. No one talked to me and I had no friends at college".

She spoke further, Was it  my fault that I was born as a transgender? No ! It was neither my fault nor my parents fault that I was born like this. I am a human  just like you all who  deserve equality, love and respect in  society".

A young boy in the front row spoke out interrupting Daksha, he exclaimed, "You are different, you are not normal. You can't have kids like women do. Why don't you accept that you are different, and you need to live in your own world of transgenders".

Daksha felt a sting in the heart, a lump formed in her throat and she felt completely blank.

This time Naksh came up to the stage, and he took the microphone. He spoke out, I am Daksha's husband, I will answer this question. When I got to know that Daksha was a transgender then I too had all these questions in my mind like you young fellow. I was confused whether I could spend my life with transgender. I felt like my fate was mocking me, I felt disgusted for loving Daksha,I was astounded with her gender revelation".

Naksh continued, In a fit of anger, I broke up with Daksha. After then  I got into a bad accident and still I survived because another transgender had blessed me in spite of the fact that I had insulted her badly. In our Indian mythology, we have Ardhanarisvara, the Androgynous form of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati, we have Mohini who was female form of Lord Vishnu who helped gods in reattaining elixir of immortality from demons. Sikhandini of Mahabharata embodies the role of a transgender, lesbian and a gay. She was the eldest sister of Draupadi, she was a girl brought up like a boy. She was born as Sikhandini a woman who married a woman. Then accordingly she transformed herself into a man called Sihkhandi as she had boon granted from her previous life to change her sex alternatively. She was neither a man nor woman when she fought the war of Mahabharata riding Arjuna's chariot.

Do you know in Ramayana, Lord Rama during his exile in forests urged the men and women to return to the city of Ayodhya. All of them returned, but the transgenders stayed with Lord Rama. Lord Rama was touched by their love and loyalty. Henceforth, Lord Rama sanctioned them the power to confer blessings on auspicious occasions like childbirth, marriage and inaugural functions. When Lord Rama accepted them then why can't we accept them as part of our society?".

Naksh looked at Daksha, and he further spoke," My family was against my decision to marry Daksha for the fear of society and for the desire for heir. I fought the society and as well as my family to marry Daksha. My love was connected to the soul, not the body alone. Usually society abandons transgenders and other LGBTQ community members because they think them as infertile. Remember, love should be based on just sex because then it would be just a sexual alliance. Men and Women should look for a partner whom they would and get same love in return. If a man looks for a bride or woman looks for a groom just for sexual pleasure and benefits, therefore they are actually looking for a sex toy and surely not a spouse".

Naksh further continued," For me Daksha was like Forbidden Fruit because of the society but I didn't let go her because I knew the best Fruit is always forbidden. I am proud of my wife Daksha, we adopted a little boy who studies in this school only. Our life is filled with happiness and I know Daksha is the reason of our happiness because she is like a diamond with a pure heart and beautiful soul. Even if someone hurts Daksha on her sexuality, she never curses them, rather she blesses them with happiness in life. I feel myself lucky to find Daksha in the fake world of social media .Daksha never lied to me, she was straight forward in confessing her gender. My family too treated her badly, but she never spoke ill of them, she saved my mother by donating her kidney. Now my family has accepted our relation, and we are living the best times of our life ".

The auditorium exploded with applause as everyone stood up for a standing ovation. Daksha hugged Naksh in my happiness, her eyes filled with tears of joy. Naksh spoke in Daksha's ear," I love you Daksha, You were a Forbidden Fruit, but I attained you which gave me elixir of happiness ".
