The entire city of Copenhagen looked like a winter wonder straight from Disney world. The lights dazzled in the streets like fireflies, spread across the vibrant capital of Denmark. The lifeless trees gleamed happily with LED lights.
"Hey, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh" echoed in almost every house except the old manor at the corner of the street. This Manor belongs to the Clarke family. The Clarke's stopped celebrating Christmas when the head of the house Victor Clarke died abruptly on a Sunday morning in his study room.
The family was away for a Sunday morning service at the church when Victor passed away on his cozy armchair, the sudden demise left the family shattered and Victor's favorite festival Christmas felt like a stab for loved ones. Therefore, Clarke family didn't celebrate for past 5 years.
This year, too, 17-year-old Catherine Clarke was expecting no Christmas like usual. She sat beside the window of her bedroom blankly staring at the sparkling lights of the streets with teary eyes, remembering those old golden days when her father Victor celebrated Christmas with full enthusiasm and pomp.
Eleven old Kelvin suddenly threw a tantrum to celebrate Christmas like all his peers. Defeated by continuous meltdowns of Kelvin, grandma Margret, mother of Victor, agreed to have a Christmas celebration.
Margret gently spoke," Cathy, my child, your dad loved you and Kelvin more than anything. From now, we would do what Victor would love us to do, we will now celebrate Christmas. Now help your mom in the kitchen, she is making Victor's favorite carrot cake".
Catherine got stunned at first, but then she understood her grandmother Margret was correct. She quickly made her way to the kitchen, where her mom Scarlet was making the batter.
Catherine helped her mother in making ginger man cookies and carrot cake. She then thought to decorate a Christmas tree. She went to her room and searched for the favorite Christmas tree hidden under bed.
Furthermore, she swiftly dusted off the old Christmas tree. Then she adorned the Christmas tree with glittery Christmas ornaments. Catherine thought to put some fairy lights.
She happily covered the tree with fairy lights. But to her disappointment, the fairy lights didn't light up.
Kelvin suggested," Cathy, we can put some tinsels on it".
Catherine's face lit up as she heard about tinsel. "Yeah there are some tinsels kept in the attic " Catherine spoke as she made her way to the attic.
She looked in the old attic for tinsels. Finally, she found golden tinsels. As she picked up the tinsels, she saw an old wooden box. Inside the box , a folded tinted yellowish paper was kept carefully. She quickly opened the paper only to find a letter of her dear dad Victor.

As Catherine finished reading the letter, she could not hold back her tears. Her superman, her father Victor, was a cheater and liar. All the tears that the Clarke family shed for Victor now felt nothing but mockery to Catherine.
She heard footsteps approaching the storeroom. Hence, she hid the letter in the attic and wiped her tears.
Catherine Clarke celebrated this Christmas as if she never discovered the letter. A few months later, Catherine convinced her mother to remarry a gentleman named John, who had lost his wife in an accident.
Next Christmas Eve, Catherine visited her father's grave alone. She kept some flowers on the grave, and she whispered," Merry Christmas Dad, I forgive you for what you did. Your letter is our secret that I won't ever tell to my mom because now she deserves happiness, and you need peace. Rest in peace, dad. Within a few months I will marry Martin, I hope he remains faithful to me because nothing hurts more than broken promises".
