Godzilla: Singular Point (Review)
A/N: after a few days of minor delays, it was finally time for me to watch Godzilla: Singular Point. And after having sat through it, it's time I shared my thoughts on it.
Pros:
*The 2D animation for this show is overall just fantastic and the design of the characters are really great.
*I think "In Case" has become one of my favorite anime opening themes yet. Ever since I heard it in one of the trailers, I wanted to hear more of it.
*The voice actors did an excellent job at voicing their respective characters.
*The soundtrack to this series is just fantastic. Hell, one part of it even sounded reminiscent the music you'd hear in Ultraman.
*While it's obviously not the greatest, the CGI in this series is still really good and It does move a little more better here compared to the CGI in the anime trilogy (which I don't think is terrible, but could have used a tiny bit more movement).
*A fuck ton of references to either other Godzilla Kaiju, films or even references to other Kaiju related material.
*Characters in this series were really well written and I enjoyed the moments we had to get to know them. Even with the moments where it's just them speaking and giving exposition or something, it doesn't feel boring or anything. And it really just further proves my point that Human characters are important in Kaiju related material no matter how much someone may hate them.
*The design of the Kaiju in this series give a refreshing new look to some old fan favorite kaiju, even if certain Kaiju in the series aren't really incarnations of the kaiju that we thought they were.
*With the scientific aspect of the show, I also love the addition of a mythology and legends aspect to work along with it in a way.
*The show did a good job at building up to Godzilla's eventual appearance. And even when he does show up, it took a little bit of it's time to finally show him in a design we'd be more familiar with in regards to Godzilla.
*I know I said this in my unpopular Godzilla Opinions, But I love Godzilla Ultima's evolutionary line a little more than Shin Godzilla's.
*Godzilla Ultima has most definitely grown to become one of my most favorite Godzillas there is.
*The post credits scene with the construction of Mechagodzilla is a nice set up for a possible second season.
Cons:
*There is a LOT of Scientific and theorizing stuff within this show that I kind of didn't get. But I can't blame the show entirely for that. Since it could either be just me for not getting a full grasp on it or some of it could be explained within a later season (hopefully it does get one).
*Like the first con, I do wish things like the hedorah-like blood of the Kumonga or the giant black rodan were explained in some way.
*I kinda wish (just a little bit) that there were a little more moments with Godzilla. Not saying that like extra full whole minute moments. But just at a little bit to the already existing moments when we see him on screen.
And that's really all I gotta say about Godzilla: Singular Point. And..... my god. This series was awesome. And I truly enjoyed the Anime Trilogy, but I will say that this honestly managed to win me over a little more. It was a fun and bizaree story that I didn't get tired or board of. There were some moments where I might have gotten lost for a moment, but it still didn't stop me from having a good time. I REALLY hope we get a season 2 to this show. Because it was overall just a fantastic experience, and I really feel like there's a lot more of this show's universe and events to explore. My score for the show? 9/10. But, that's me. Did any of you guys see the show yet? (if not, you really need to). if you did, what did you guys think of the show? Just leave it in the comments if you'd like.
