This was inspired by a book I remember, but I don't recall the name right now. It was about wizards and magic and charms and stuff, not Harry Potter though.

It's a dragon that's attached to the ring that allows the main character to fly around like he has wings, I believe his name being Septimus Heap or something like that, the seventh son of the seventh son, the most powerful wizard or something.
