Jace and Clary Rant
I have been wanting to have a discussion about these two for a loooong time.
Before I do though, I've been wondering . . .
I'm thinking that maybe (MAYBE) at 700 followers, I'll do a half face reveal. I'll only keep it up for ONE DAY though then delete it because I try to be cautious on the Internet. Still . . . Yes? No? Maybe? Answer in the comments before Jace-lovers start to hate me!
Back to the rant.
I know that they are beloved characters, and everyone has their own opinions, so please don't lash out at me for saying that I don't understand why they are so loved.
I don't hate either of them, nor do I love either. I have very mixed feelings for this duo.
Even with all of their faults, I still kind of like Clace. Sort of. Maybe not. So, that being said, I'm gonna start listing the reasons why these two aggravate me so much.
I'll start with Clary since there will be less complaints.
Clary . . .
-I felt like until the very end of City of Glass she was so useless. She seemed to get in the way of everything. Everything. Now I know I'm not exactly being fair, seeing as how she was born a mundane and I'm used to Percy Jackson's quicker adapting, but come on. Three books? She did manage to kill a Raptor demon, though how I don't even know.
-She doesn't listen to anything, mirroring Jace. "Clary you can't be with me right now!" "Yeah I can!" "Clary don't go to Idris!" "Idris is pretty nice this year . . . " etc.
-I'm more mad at Jace for pressing incest, which I am 100% NOT okay with, but the fact that Clary kind of went along with it even though they're not actually siblings detonates some points.
-She obsesses over Jace too much. Look I get that I'm being hypocritical. I'm fine with her having a major crush on Jace, but I don't need fifteen pages describing his arms. Get to the plot.
-She gives into Jace's recklessness too often and allows it.
-She never really reprimanded Jace for his cruelty to Simon.
-She hated Isabelle immediately because she's pretty. (Izzy is a mother flipping queen, and Simon is her nerdy king. They are the best characters in the series, NO ARGUMENT. Magnus comes close though.)
-She whines excessively. I know her mom was kidnapped and I would be panicked too, but she barely even whines about that!
-I get why she left the Lightwoods alone in their grieving for Max, but she could've offered more assistance. Just saying.
-In CoLS, she knew Jace was being possessed, and yet she still made out with him on several occasions when it wasn't really him.
-She lost the ring and forgot about it because "Jace! Jace!"
-She does stuff without thinking.
Overall she's still a good heroine, though I get annoyed with her so much. Not my favorite but she's definitely got her positives.
Now Jace.
*sigh*
Jace and I have a very complicated relationship. I either like him or hate him. I'm gonna list what makes me hate him. Be prepared, it's long.
I haven't read TMI in a while so I could be wrong about some stuff so if I am please kindly correct me.
-He really should have been more considerate towards Clary. She saw a guy get stabbed by him. Even though that wasn't necessarily the case. Still, that's pretty traumatizing.
-Jace was so mean to Simon, who, along with Isabelle, is the greatest character in the series. This made me hate Jace a lot.
-He was also rude to Clary.
-He was way too exasperated by Clary too. SHE WAS BORN A MUNDIE, GO EASY ON HER!!
-I know Izzy is a horrible cook. But she obviously put in a lot of effort to search through recipes and make something. I don't see Jace cooking. So why does he feel the need to snap in her face as she's cooking that her food sucks? And he's like the only one to do it.
-Just because he's pretty he thinks he's a gift from the Angel or something. If you're attractive, that doesn't make you better than anyone else.
-He's very self-centered and thinks mainly of himself.
-HE DIDNT EVEN SEE ALEC'S OBVIOUS CRUSH WHILE CLARY NOTICED IMMEDIATELY
-He didn't really care that Simon died.
-I am a Christian and am fine with people being in different religions/having different views. You are allowed that. I'm not upset that Jace is an atheist, I'm upset because he repeatidly bashed God, which is a huge no-no for me. Have your own opinions but don't bash someone else's.
-Also I didn't really understand why he was an atheist. You are freaking part angel, battle demons, and meet an angel, yet you don't believe some higher force reigns above? The logic in that just irked me.
-Like I mentioned in the Clary section, he pushed the "incest" thing. Look, I knew they weren't siblings. But they didn't know it. So it's disgusting that he continued to enforce it. I get that love makes you do crazy things or whatever they say, but really?
-He mouthed off to Imogen and landed himself in the jail that the others had to spring him from.
-I'm not gonna comment about the 'To love is to destroy' story shared with Clary. I think we saw a real part of Jace in that morbid moment. This is what I'm upset about. To love is to destroy.
He lived with Valentine for the first ten years of his life. Valentine was sadistic but for the most part Jace was unharmed, especially compared to poor Jonathon. The only thing we ever heard from Jace about his "trying times" was that to love is to destroy. It's pretty awful having a pet be killed, but apparently the lesson stuck with him more.
Okay but he was younger than ten learning this. Evidently "Childhood stays with you" but oh my gosh please. I can barely remember what happened to me yesterday. And after six years of living with the Lightwoods, a broken but loving family, he still believed that? After getting a parabatai? Oh please.
-I love Clace, but why was Clary his salvation? Not Max, Izzy, Maryse, Hodge, or Alec. Clary, a mundane he knew for about a month.
-He never cared about Alec really and the only time he reminded him about it was to guilt-trip Alec into doing something stupid.
-There were so many times when he brought up the to love is to destroy thing and it became lame and stupid, especially compared to Will. And Will was still an amazing, honorable person even after his horribly sad backstory as opposed to sarcastic, cruel, annoying Jace and his pathetic backstory that may have been sad once but just turned aggravating later.
-He tried to distance himself from Clary in CoFA, which earns him points, only to give up and stab her.
-He was met with Mark Blackthorn, who begged to go back, to go home, and Jace refused to take him back because of the Clave. PERCY JACKSON WOULD HAVE, CLAVE BE DAMMED
-Simon was right about the demon swooping Jace up in Edom and all Jace said was, "Godd*mmit, I hate when Simon is right."
-In CoHF, Jace was on guard duty in Edom, a place where they could easily die and Izzy got hurt. He freaking ran off with Clary and left the sleeping others to fend with demon attacks in their sleep.
-Jace was like "Alec, what's bothering you?" Hmm, I wonder . . . not like Magnus wasn't kidnapped!
-Also when he was met with Jem about the parabatai talk he nodded and pretended like he wasn't all ready taking advantage of Alec.
-There's more but I'm done for now. Comment what you don't like about Jace!
The more I think about it I'm leaning WAY less towards Clace and more towards Malec/Sizzy.
*exhale* I'm sorry if you're offended by this because you absolutely love Jace. This is just my opinion.
I hope some of you agree with me and I'm just gonna end it here.
BYEEEEE *throws cookies*
