The Greatest Showman (2017)
The Greatest Showman
Directed by: Michael Gracey
Genre/s: Drama/Romance
Inspired by the imagination of P. T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business & tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.
I don't (really) care if this movie is historically accurate (because let's be honest, that would be a lot longer movie,) but it is a very enjoyable, rewatchable movie. It doesn't matter if the plot and subplots are predictable, but what does matter is how it's presented. The musical numbers are quite quick and save about 20(ish)+ minutes of extra talking.
The choreography and costumes are AMAZING. The costumes are era-accurate and the choreography is probably the best part of the movie, along with the music. On the topic of the music/songs, this movie probably has my favourite soundtrack, mostly because of the fact it is so easy to relisten. Although the music is quite modern, most have a lot of emotion (for example, Never Enough,) and the choreography makes up for whatever emotion is left out.
Onto the acting, Hugh Jackman is great at portraying P. T. Barnum and so are all the other actors playing their respective characters.
One other thing I really liked about the movie was the credits. Instead of just doing the boring black background while the credits rolled, they used impressionism-style art from scenes in the movie.
TL; DR:
Overall: 8.5/10. Definitely on my list of Top 10 favourite movies. As soon as it comes out on DVD, I'll most likely get it. It is very enjoyable and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something to watch and/or doesn't mind musicals.
