Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Director: Jack Kasdan
Genre/s: Fansty/Action
Four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game's jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don't just play Jumanji - you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they'll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves - or they'll be stuck in the game forever.
Um... When was the last time I updated this? February? (Wait Black Panther came out in February? O.o) Anyway... Welcome to this review! It's been so long...
Jumanji is probably one of the best mainstream movies that came out last year. All the actors suit their roles perfectly and have such great chemistry between them.
The action scenes were great and there are at least three times in the movie that I couldn't guess what they were going to do/how the characters would get out. It was usually one of two options, and usually the... uh... happier(?) option, it was refreshing to not quite knowing what was going to happen next.
The character arcs felt natural and not forced (e.g.: Captain America: The First Avenger). Some genuinely funny and clever moments.
A few outstanding moments in my opinion:
- The fact that most of the time, you can imagine that it's a video game and you can picture a bunch of teenagers playing the video game in real life.
- The fact that as a sequel/reboot, it doesn't fail. Most sequels/reboots usually fail or are not well liked, because it tries to be too much like it's predecessor/the original but this movie, though paying homage to the original, is its own movie (not my words, I still have to watch the original).
TL; DR:
Overall: 9/10. Great acting and great humour. Definitely would watch it again and is interesting enough to watch the original and read the book.
A/N: So that wraps up this review. Some time within the next week I'll post my Murder on the Orient Express (2017) review and Prince of Egypt (1998). On Wednesday, I'll be posting my Avengers: Infinity War review.
