Chapter 26
Hans had prepared the soldiers for battle. He had gained their trust, but the soldiers had no idea they were to go against their king and queen. Hans had confidence though, he was going to be king. A king who was respected by his people. His brothers couldn’t persecute him from here, he had finally made a name for himself without any of their help. When the group arrived in front of the castle gates he wasn’t surprised. He was ready. The king and queen came up to the gates where Hans and the soldiers were waiting for them.
“My King and Queen, if you are in danger, do not move we will save you.” Hans said
“We are in no danger. We are just confused. Please tell us why you had our daughter sent to prison?” King Jamie stated.
“I’m sorry your highness I do not follow?” Hans replied.
“Our daughter has returned to us and you had her imprisoned.” Queen Lydia said.
“Who is your daughter?” Hans asked.
Rapunzel stepped forward, her head held high. “I am.”
Hans and the soldiers waited for a response. They could not see Rapunzel, since her necklace had burnt out. They didn’t believe in her, so they could not see her. Not even Hans could see her anymore.
“She’s right here.” The King said.
The soldiers looked at each other until a loyal officer came forward and asked the King if he was alright.
“They can’t see her.” Jack replied.
“That’s impossible!” Queen Lydia.
“I’m sorry men, these scoundrels have abused your King and Queen’s sorrow and have brainwashed them into believing their daughter is alive with them.” Hans said
“She isn’t alive, she is a guardian.” The king insisted.
His army looked sadly at the poor king. They believed he had gone crazy with grief. The king stood and watched as his loyal subjects stared at him with pity.
“Men get the King and Queen to safety, imprison the rest until their sentence is determined. We’ll see if death is worth these horrible people.” Hans commanded.
The soldiers came forward and mournfully grabbed the king and queen. “Run! Keep Rapunzel safe!” The king yelled.
Rapunzel looked as her family was being torn apart once again. “No.” She said. “Not this time.” She stomped her foot and it shivered through the Earth’s core. Clouds of thunder began to cluster like before. Vines grew from out of the ground collecting soldiers. Her eyes were now glowing green. Her vines overtook Hans and brought him to her. He still could not see her, but he struggled to get out of the vines. Golden flowers and thorns began to grow around the vines holding Hans. Rapunzel blew on the flowers that released the pollen as it blew into the air. Hans blinked the golden pollen from out his eyes and saw the raging Rapunzel in front of him.
He screamed with fright as she stood before him.
“You destroyed families long enough! You will pay for what you have done.” Rapunzel shouted.
The vines tightened around Hans causing him to lose breath. He began turning blue.
“Please stop...I can’t breathe.” Hans choked,
“Rapunzel don’t! This isn’t you. Guardians don’t kill! They protect. He tried to destroy my family too. It doesn’t mean we stoop to his level.” Jack said.
“He killed Eugene. He killed him!” Rapunzel yelled.
“Eugene wouldn’t want you to do this Rapunzel!” Elsa said.
“He deserves to be avenged!” Rapunzel said.
“He does but killing Hans won’t solve that.” Merida said.
“Rapunzel stop!” a voice commanded.
Instead of Hans, Eugene had taken his place wrapped in the vines.
“Eugene?” She asked.
“You need to stop this. You’ll never forgive yourself if you do this.” He replied.
“But you’re…..you’re gone… you died.”
“Rapunzel look what you’re doing.” He said strictly.
Rapunzel released her vines and the shaking ceased. Eugene stepped out of Hans’s place. Hans was now on the ground breathing for life.
Eugene had a white light surrounding him as he came towards Rapunzel.
“I’m so sorry Eugene.” She said.
“I know.” He replied.
She ran into his arms and the thunder stopped. The clouds began to clear and the vines recoiled back into the ground.
“Rapunzel, I’ll always be with you. Don’t forget that. Jack will take good care of you.” Eugene replied stroking her hair.
She let go of him and he went towards his friends.
“I’m glad to see you two have made up.” He said to Hiccup and Merida.
“Glad to see you too Eugene.” Hiccup said.
“That’s Flynn Rider to you.” Eugene joked. “Anna, I never got a chance to say how sorry I was. And Kristoff I’m sorry I endangered you’re lady.”
“Thanks…..for everything.” Anna replied.
“Elsa. We had our little chat back in the middle.” Eugene said. “Remember what I said.”
“Remember this Eugene. You are the bravest and honorable man I have ever known. I will make sure no one will forget you and what you have done for us.” Elsa replied.
“I’m honored to hear that my queen.” He bowed.
Eugene turned away and looked at the crowd of shocked soldiers and townspeople. He began to fade away, but before he was gone he uttered these words.
“You would think these people never saw an ex con angel before.”
Then he was gone.
