Chapter 6: Meal 10-1-16
A/N: Here is a diagram that i made to show you where everybody sat.
Legolas had a salad in front of him and was super happy to be able to eat real food again. Gimli was also very excited as he grinned eagerly as he piled all the types of meat onto his plate. Pork, ham, beef, turkey, chicken, and lots more.
"That is what I'm talking about!"Gimli said happily shoving pork in his mouth with one fork and shoving beef in his mouth with his other hand.
Legolas was sitting in between Gandalf and Boromir and Gimli was sitting in between Denathor and Merry on the other side of the table. Pippin was across from Legolas, and Merry in between Gimli and Pippin.
Merry and Pippin were probably the happiest Hobbits in all Middle Earth as they filled their plate with every sort of food that was on the table. They couldn't even remember the last time they had had a proper Hobbit Meal.
"So, where have you come from, Strider?" Denathor asked.
Boromir sighed and said,
"His name is Aragorn, father,"
Denathor glared his eyes at his son and then waited for Aragorn to answer.
"I have come from Rivendell and that's where I joined the Fellowship," Aragorn answered as he put some chicken on his plate.
"Ah, yes. Rivendell," Denathor said, "The Land of the Elves. You don't look much of an Elf,"
"I only stayed there. I am not Elf kind," Aragorn explained calmly.
"I see... And what was the goal of the Fellowship again?"
Aragorn was about to answer, but Gandalf spoke up first and said,
"That is for only the members of the Fellowship to know,"
Denathor made an unpleased face at Gandalf and said,
"I see,"
Merry and Pippin weren't paying too much attention to the conversation, but to their food. Their glasses of water where next to each other and they started to play a game with their corn. They would pull a single piece of corn off the cob, put it on the back of one of their hands, and then flick the corn kernel with their other fingers. The piece of corn would bounce off their water glasses and land into their mouths. The corn landed perfectly into their mouths because they were too short sitting in the human sized chairs. They laughed quietly every time they did so.
"When are you planning on leaving?" Denathor asked, "You are welcome to stay for however long you wish,"
Denathor and Aragorn made a strange eye contact as he said this. Boromir saw the lie shine through his eyes knowing the only thing he wanted was the Ring and he wanted it now. He surely wanted everybody out of Gondor as fast as possible.
"We shall leave no longer than a week ahead," Gandalf said, "We can't linger,"
Denathor nodded.
Pippin put another piece of corn on the back of his hand and flicked it towards his glass of water. Merry and Pippin both gasped as the piece of corn flew past the glass and hit Gandalf in the face. Their hands went up to cover their mouths as Gandalf looked at them angrily and nearly shouted,
"Enough with this foolishness! Both of you stop playing with your food and eat it,"
Boromir held back from laughing as he put a spoonful of rice into his mouth. Merry and Pippin went back to eating silently and stopped messing around with their corn. Gandalf sighed and took another bite from his plate.
Everybody ate everything on their plates and soon some servants came and cleared the table. Merry and Pippin secretly stuffed some biscuits and apples into their coats for a laters meal. Aragorn stood up slowly and said,
"Thank you so much for this amazing meal," he bowed slightly to Denathor, "I must be going now. I don't feel so well,"
"Are you sure? Desert is coming," Denathor said trying to be convincing.
"Thank you, but I must go rest," the truth was that he actually just wanted to leave the room, but he really was feeling a little sick also.
Denathor nodded and Aragorn turned to leave. He walked past Gandalf and Legolas, but Legolas caught his arm and whispered,
"Will you be alright?"
"Don't worry about me," Aragorn said.
Legolas let him go and Aragorn continued walking and went out the two double doors that lead outside. He saw the White Tree of Gondor and suddenly remembered something.
The answer to the last riddle was Minas Tirith! Aragorn thought.
He checked in his pocket for the keys and the riddles. He found them thankfully and grabbed the last riddle and read it over again in his head.
"The Realm in Southern Middle Earth
Founded by brothers henceforth,
Court of stone and the fountains
But could also be mistaken for a mountain,
Go to the very top
Where the tree will greet you
That is your last stop
Of finding the few."
Then he looked to the Tree of Gondor and walked over to it. He crouched down and looked at the base of the Tree. And there it was... the key. The last Elvish key that had a beautiful blue gem in the middle. He snatched it up and put it in his pocket along with the rest of the keys and riddles.
-----
Back in the throne room, everybody else was eating desert except Legolas who was okay just to watch and listen to everyone.
"Look, Pip," Merry eagerly whispered to Pippin as he held a giant bowl of vanilla pudding.
"What's that?" Pippin asked.
"I don't know," he took the spoon that was in the bowl and scooped some up, "Look it giggles!"
Pippin smiled and watched the white substance wiggle around in the giant bowl.
Merry dumped a spoonful of it into his empty glass. Pippin took the spoon after him and did the same. They both put their glasses of pudding to their lips and tried taking a sip of it.
"What are you doing?" Gandalf asked them grumpily.
Pippin took the glass away from his mouth and explained,
"Trying to drink this strange liquid. What is it?"
Boromir couldn't help but laugh this time, but Gandalf didn't find it funny at all.
"It's called pudding and you eat it with a spoon," Gandalf said and took both of their glasses away from them, "Eat appropriately or leave the table,"
Merry and Pippin shrugged and continued to eat other deserts. Eventually everybody finished and was excused from the table. Denathor gave thanks to everyone. Boromir helped Merry walk out of the throne room with Pippin by his side. The three of them walked out the doors and Boromir spotted somebody by the White Tree of Gondor. It was Aragorn he realized.
"Can you make it to your room from here?" Boromir asked the Hobbits, "I have some business to attend to,"
"Sure, I got him," Pippin said and wrapped Merry's arm around his neck.
As the Hobbits walked away slowly, Boromir walked over to Aragorn. As he got to him, he realized Aragorn was lying on his side and not moving. Boromir ran over to him very concerned.
A/N: Love this chapter! I was laughing so hard when i made up the whole Merry and Pippin situations at the table. (I actually tried the corn thing too, lol!)
