Chapter 3: Traitor or Not? 9-19-16
Gandalf rushed to Aragorn and crouched down next to him. He was barely awake and having trouble breathing even more. He continued to cough and arched his head over.
"I'm going to need you to get up, okay?" Gandalf whispered just to Aragorn.
Aragorn nodded slightly and moved a little putting all his weight on his one good arm, which was his left. Aragorn got into a sitting position, but could not go any farther. More blood came gushing out of his open gashed shoulder. He had lost so much blood already; Gandalf didn't know how he was still living.
"Boromir, get up!" Gandalf called to him anxiously.
Boromir rubbed his head and groaned, but got up and went over to help.
"Get him into his bed. I will be right back," Gandalf instructed firmly.
Boromir put Aragorn's good arm around his neck and let him stand slowly. Aragorn tried not to move too fast due to the stinging sensation from his shoulder and the lingering pain from his stomach. Denathor was right; his stomach was now soaked in blood. The gash had opened again.
They walked slowly to his bed. Halfway to the bed, Aragorn fainted in his arms, so Boromir had to carry him the rest of the way. Boromir helped Aragorn lay down on the bed and laid him down on his back. Boromir sat in the chair next to Aragorn's bed and closed his eyes too.
"I'm so sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Boromir kept repeating out loud.
Boromir put his elbows on the bed and his head in his hands feeling embarrassed and ashamed with himself. After a while he looked up and saw Aragorn was sleeping. Then he looked next to him feeling a presence and jumped as he saw Pippin standing there.
"Do you need help?" he asked.
Boromir shook his head and said,
"I just want you to go rest with Merry in bed, okay?"
Pippin nodded and turned around to go back to his bed.
"Wait," Boromir said.
Pippin turned to him again and stopped.
"Are you hot?" Boromir asked him.
"No, I'm cold,"
Boromir stood up and walked over to him. He reached his hand out and felt his forehead.
"Oh, boy. You definitely have a fever," Boromir said, "Go take your jacket and scarf off and rest,"
Pippin felt his forehead too and the nodded. He went back to his bed and folded his jacket and scarf on the table next to the bed. Then he lay down, but could not sleep. Neither could Merry so they both watched Aragorn quietly. They didn't know how to process what had just happened.
Gandalf came in a moment later with Legolas and Gimli. Legolas ran to Aragorn's bed side and took his hand in his. He started whispering Elf tongue, probably a healing message to him. Gimli started asking questions.
"What happened?" he shouted at Boromir.
Everyone looked at him and waited for a response.
"The Steward attacked him," he eventually said.
"You mean your father?!" Gimli asked in an outrage.
Boromir nodded sheepishly and said,
"I tried stopping him, I did,"
Gimli stepped onto the side of the bed where Boromir was sitting and made a fist and pointed at him.
"You will be next! You will kill Aragorn! Don't think I forgot what you did in Amon Hen. You will always be a traitor in my eyes! Always!"
Boromir looked at him with hurt eyes and a hurt heart. He shook his head and said softly,
"I never meant to hurt anyone back at Amon Hen, the Ring took me. I admit it. It did. After I arrived at Isengard and saw the Hobbits my thoughts changed and they still haven't changed back. I am no traitor and I would never hurt Aragorn,"
Gimli was about to argue back again, but Gandalf silenced him by saying,
"We shouldn't focus on the past, but the future. The future is what holds the truth and the answers we cannot find now,"
Boromir stood up from his chair, walked past Gimli, and out the doors of the room.
Gandalf sighed and said,
"I fear all we can do now is wait and see what happens,"
"Agreed and how do you suppose we can keep Boromir and Denathor away from Aragorn?" Gimli grumbled.
"Enough, I say! I don't want to Boromir's name again. After all, he saved me from Sarumon, took full responsibility of Merry and Pippin, and protected Aragorn when Denathor attacked. Yes, he was telling the truth,"
Everybody was silent and didn't look at one another for a while. Out of the silence, Aragorn spoke quietly,
"Is he gone?"
"Yes, Denathor is gone," Gandalf replied reassuringly.
"Aragorn, do you want some water?" Legolas asked placing his hand back on the bed.
"An ngell nin,"
Legolas nodded and left the room. He was happy to help his friend.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Gimli mumbled still irritated about Boromir, "Elf tongue,"
"Please," Aragorn answered.
Gimli wasn't expecting him to respond and smiled slightly.
"You always have some life in you, laddie," Gimli said feeling a little better.
A/N: What are you guys thinking about Boromir? Same as Gimli, or differently?
