Chapter 10: The Secret Door 10-19-16

Aragorn ran and ran. The sun was dipping below the mountains and Aragorn knew he must take a break. He had run all day and was very out of breath. His stomach churned and his shoulder stung as he slowed to a stop and collapsed to the ground. Aragorn gasped for breath as he clenched the dirt on the ground around him in his hands.

Once Aragorn had regained his normal composer, he stood up and made his way to some tall boulders. He was so worn out from the whole week that he sat down with his back to the boulders. He put his eyes to the sky and gazed upon all the stars shining brightly down on Middle Earth. He told himself he wouldn't fall asleep and this was only a short break.

But soon enough sleep took him and he started having a dream. It was a dream about Arwen and himself. Aragorn was having a flashback from the day when Arwen had given him the Evenstar. The beautiful clear, star shaped necklace that he wore every day around his neck. He smiled in his sleep as he thought of it. If only we could meet again, he thought.

The dream took him to the exact spot him and Arwen had stood when she had chosen her destiny for him.

"I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone," Arwen whispered, "I choose a mortal life,"

"Aragorn!" Aragorn heard his name, but it wasn't from his dream, "Aragorn wake up!"

The image of Arwen and himself in the gardens of Rivendell slowly faded away and he opened his eyes. To his surprise, Boromir was standing over him.

"Good thing I found you before an orc did," Boromir said.

"Boromir?"

"You run fast! I just got here and it's almost morning," Boromir continued, "I'm really sorry about my father. Aragorn, I..."

"It's fine. My main focus right now is Frodo," Aragorn interrupted as he stood.

Boromir grabbed his arm before he could walk away and said,

"Aragorn... you would have been dead right now if you had stayed,"

Aragorn looked Boromir in the eyes and whispered,

"I know, I saw,"

"I'm so sorry," Boromir let Aragorn go and bowed his head in shame.

Aragorn put a hand on Boromir's shoulder and said,

"I want you to know that it wasn't you. You are a better man that cares about his fellow friends,"

Boromir looked up and smiled. He put his own hand on Aragorn's good shoulder and they studied each other for a moment.

"Let's go find Frodo," Aragorn finally said.

Boromir nodded and Aragorn lead the way. He was going to the secret Elven gate. After all, he had all the keys.

Aragorn and Boromir walked along the bottom of all the mountains that surrounded Mordor. The sun was coming out, but they tried their best to linger in the shadows of the mountains. They knew once they got inside Mordor it would be nothing but darkness so they wouldn't have a problem with the oncoming daylight.

Soon they past the Black Gate and to the right of it about a mile away, they found the secret Elven gate. Aragorn found it strange that no Orc had ever found it before as they approached. The gate was more of a human sized door.

The door blended into the rock mountain all pretty well and was surrounded by old fungi and covered with moss and ivy. Aragorn felt the door for any locks. He found all three of them in a row vertically. He scratched off all the gunk surrounding the lock holes and then took out the keys. As he dug out the keys, he was reminded of how oddly shaped they were.

He first placed the emerald key in place that Galadriel had given him in Lorien, into the top slot. He turned it and it made a soft slicking sound that surprisingly didn't echo through the valley they stood in.

Next, Aragorn placed the maroon key, which Frodo had found in Orthanc, into the middle key slot. There was another click as he turned it.

Lastly, he put the final key into place in the last lock slot. It was the blue one he had found at the base of the Tree of Gondor only the other night. He turned it and the door clicked again for the last time.

Aragorn took all of the keys out of the door and dropped them all onto the ground in different places. He then covered them with dirt and then stood back up.

"You are leaving them?" Boromir asked confused.

"For Legolas. He will come here first," Aragorn explained.

"Do you really think the others will come?"

"They will," Aragorn reassured him, "Now let's go find Frodo,"

Aragorn pushed the door open and both companions entered Mordor bravely side by side.

"Well I guess I am breaking my own rule," Boromir said naturally.

"Which was?"

"One does not simply walk into Mordor,"

Aragorn let out a quiet chuckle which made Boromir smile.

A/N: Yay! They finally got to use all the keys! i just had to add that Boromir meme at the end, lol :)
