Chapter 2- The Option
"So to just clarify, the Greek Gods are real. I'm most likely the son of Poseidon. I'm a very dangerous, powerful demigod. You're Artemis the supposed Man Hating Goddess who is talking about the Hunt who dislikes males, ends up killing most males, thinking that they might accept me because I'm seven and, according to you, innocent." I said skeptically as we walked through the words as I kept near her not feeling safe thinking that Gabe was still in these woods.
"That is correct." Artemis said nodding leaving me more confused.
"What I also gathered is that you might want to adopt me because of reasons you won't tell me about." I said glancing at her with doubtful eyes.
"That is correct." Artemis said giving me nothing on why she would adopt me.
But it was either be adopted or go back to the devil..."So when do you adopt me?" I asked stopping and turned toward her making her stop and look down on me.
"I will need to confirm with my lieutenant before the procedure happens. I have never actually adopted anyone much less a male before, but I do know that comes with adoption is the ability to transform into a wolf.
There is more to it though, I will give you an option, stay immortal when you are in child like state and never grow old including personality wise while growing until you are an adult male wolf, or be immortal as a wolf once you reach adulthood but grow as a young man." Artemis said staring at me in the eye making me feel dizzy with the sudden decision.
"What?" I asked completely off track as I watched Artemis sigh with annoyance and pinch the bridge of her nose.
"If you chose the first option, becoming an immortal wolf. Your male state will be a seven year old body with the mental state of however old you are. The second option means that you will be a growing insolent male as your wolf side will be immortal young wolf."
"Oh." I said intelligently as a sudden dizziness came upon me from the ultimate decision I had to make. Immortal Wolf or Immortal Man.
Artemis must have sensed this as she said, "You can give me the decision once I have talked to Zoe. In the meantime there will be a black tent set up near the wolves. Stay there until it is time for dinner." She said as she stiffly, or awkwardly, went back toward the area of camp.
Once she was a little bit away I muttered, "What a wonderful mom." I sighed and gave her the benefit of the doubt, she did say she never adopted someone, much less a male so she probably doesn't know how to handle this pure seven year old awesomeness.
Looking around I jumped when some bushes rustled before taking off toward the camp not wanting to know what monster was behind it. Once far enough away I looked back in time to notice a rabbit hopping out of the bush.
Feeling stupid I calmed myself, looked around, and casually walked back toward the tent that was suppose to be mine.
You know that feeling when you enter a new world not knowing what to expect and then suddenly have your breath taken away.
Try that feeling times ten because as soon as I walked into my new suppose home well, let's just say I loved it in a total out of this world, I can't believe this is my room, feeling.
The walls seemed to be just the right shade of blue like the ocean but not the ocean. Does that make any sense? Along the wall was a single picture that I will forever ask how she got.
It was a picture of my mom and I on my fifth birthday with my face smeared in blue cake along with my moms as we were just laughing and had a good time.
My hand slowly went toward the picture and gently caressed it as tears formed in my sea-green eyes. I sniffled remembering the day that the Crooked One took my mother and left me alone in the world.
But how much was I alone now? If Artemis does adopt me would I have a new family of man-hating hunters? Or would I have another family that just used and abused me because I was a male?
Questions formed in my mind as I closed my eyes and let my hand just fall away from the picture. Trying to resolve the tears that were in my eyes was hard because of the way my heart felt like it was breaking.
Slowly taking a breath I pushed back the tears and opened my eyes to take in more of the giant room (how was a giant room in such a small tent?) and looked to the single bed that was in the middle of the back wall.
I gave a shocked laugh as my eyes had that twinkle that I normally had when my mom was around as I suddenly started to run toward the bed.
Once near I jumped and laughed when I landed on the bed. Instead of flopping onto a hard bed the bed swooshed and moved around me.
This day had just got crazier 'cause I had a freaking WATERBED that was BLUE. Before I knew it I had a smile on my face as I melted into the waterbed loving the wave the water just seemed to comfort me and before I knew it, I was fast asleep before you could say Blue Pancakes.
