Chapter 6: A Shiny Pidgey

Alex and Mitsuki were now walking through an extensive and twisted forest known as Viridian Forest. Mitsuki looked at his pokegear, checking to ensure they were going on the right path.

"Alright, it looks like the path out is just straight ahead. To the right and left are paths leading to nowhere," Mitsuki said, putting his pokegear back into his pocket.

"Got it, then straight ahead we go, then!" Alex said as he and Mitsuki continued walking down the straight grassy and dirt path.

They could feel the cold evening wind blowing through their hair as the leaves of the trees were swaying in the wind.

"I wonder what kind of pokemon live in this forest," Alex said curiously.

"You can check you your pokedex," Mitsuki said. "I checked it out while during our lunch break, and saw a Pokemon here that caught my attention, but I won't say until I find it."

"Oh, I didn't think about checking Pokemon locations with my pokedex," Alex stated.

"Well, you can check it out when we stop to camp out for the night," Mitsuki replied.

"Sounds good from the looks of it. Another two hours before the sunsets," Alex said, looking at the sky as he noticed the sun was lower than this morning.

"Meaning we should set up camp in about an hour for dinner," Mitsuki stated.

Alex and Mitsuki stopped in their tracks as they heard a flapping sound and looked up to see a small, plump-bodied bird. It is dull yellow in color with a dark cream color belly and throat. Both its feet and break are dark yellow in color. Its plumage is pretty nondescript, compared to its evolutions. It has black markings around its eyes and a small breast of brown and greyish-yellow feathers above its eyes.

"Let's see what Pokemon this is," Alex said, scanning the Pokemon that just landed on the ground and pecking at its wings.

"Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. Very docile; however, if attacked, it will often kick up sand to protect itself rather than fight back. A common sight in forests and woods. It flaps its wings at ground level to kick up blinding sand. Pidgey is a Normal and flying. This pidgey was born a different color from most pidgey, which is called a shiny," Alex's pokedex explained.

"A shiny Pidgey well, that is interesting," Alex said, putting away his pokedex." I'm going to catch it!" He announced, sending out Hiroka.

"Totodile!" Hiroka cheered, ready to battle.

Pidgey heard Alex and quickly flapped its wings on the ground sending sand flying toward Hiroka.

"Hiroka, use Water Gun and blast the sand away!"

Hiroka opened his mouth and shot water towards the sand coming his way, clearing it before it could get in his eyes and hit Pidgey.

"Pidgey!" Pidgey cried out as it shook its body, recovering from the attack.

"Awesome, now, Scratch!"

"Totodile!" Hiroka cried out, rushing toward Pidgey with his claws sharp.

Pidgey flew out of the way dodging the attack.

"Looks like it dodged," Mitsuki stated.

"Hiroka, Bite its wing, so it fly out of the way!"

Hiroka jumped up, clamping its strong jaw onto the Pidgey wing sending it to the ground. Pidgey cried in pain, as it slowly got back up.

"Now finish with Water Gun!"

"Totodile!" Hiroka released a loud battle cry as it got a powerful blast of water at Pidgey.

"Pidgey!" Pidgey cried out in pain as it fainted on the ground.

"Alright, Pokeball, go!" Alex shouted, throwing a Pokeball at the fainted Pidgey.

The Pokeball hit Pidgey and sucked it in with white light. The Pokeball shook three times until a click was heard, and a red light flashed on the center button.

"Yes, I caught a Shiny Pidgey!" Alex cheered, rushing over and picking up the Pokeball containing his newly caught Pidgey.

"Totodile!" Hiroka cheered with Alex, happy to have a new member as well.

"Nice, catch it a cool flying type, but I plan on catching a different flying type that will be one of my full-time members on my team of six," Mitsuki said.

"Oh, what Pokemon is that?" He asked as he returned Hiroka and placed the Pokeball back on his belt along with Pidgey's Pokeball.

"Let's just say it is not in this forest that for sure," Mitsuki replied as he started to walk ahead.

"Oh, come on, tell me," Alex whined, following Mitsuki.

"Your whining will not get you the answer you desire."

"Come on, please?"

"Nope."

Mitsuki shook his head as Alex tried to get the answer to what flying type Mitsuki was after. Mitsuki just constantly continued to refuse to give him the answer.

"Xander, just give it a rest," Mitsuki said.

"Find only because we should start setting up camp,"  Alex said. "I will get the answer out of you tomorrow," He stated.

"If you say so, Xander," Mitsuki said.

Mitsuki and Alex then found a nice clearing within a beautiful lake and small rocks near the river, as well as a nest full of pidgey and their evolutions.

"Wow, this is a beautiful clearing," Alex said, taking off his backpack and sitting down on the ground.

"Agree, so do the pidgey and their evolutions to have nest around here," Mitsuki agreed as he took his bag off as well. "I am making some of the ramen from the packets of ramen I packed. Would you like some as well?" He asked.

"Sounds good. That way, I can save my food for when I'm traveling by myself after we go separate ways."

"Alright, I'll start cooking it as I get the water and fill this travel pot; my father got me," He said, pulling out a small pot from his bag but big enough to cook for two people.

"I collect the firewood," Alex said, standing back up and heading off to find some firewood.

After collecting the firewood and filling the pot up with water, Mitsuki started cooking the packets of Miso Ramen for dinner.

While Mitsuki was cooking the ramen, Alexander began feeding the Pokemon their Pokemon food. Once that was done, he checked out his pidgey information and saw it had some decent attacks and was also a male.

"Not bad for moves, and you're a male," Alex said, looking at his Pidgey.

"So now you have two males while I have two females," Mitsuki stated.

"Oh, Ekans was a female as well?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, and here's your ramen," Mitsuki replied as he heads Alex a bowl of Miso ramen.

"This smells good, but is it as good as your father's cooking?"

"I doubt my father is a way better cook than me, that is for sure."

Alex nodded in agreement as he had Mitsuki's father cooking before.

After finishing their dinner and cleaning up the cooking wear and empty bowls, Mitsuki and Alexander both got into their sleeping bags, ready for bed for the night, so they were well-rested to continue their journey through Viridian Forest.
