Chapter 5: Alexander Vs. Matthew & Entering Viridan Forest

A/N: I'm not 100℅ better but feeling better enough to focus a bit more on my writing and not be constantly bothered by the pain and feeling sick to my stomach.

Anyway, onto the chapter!

"Well, are you ready to begin teal jacket?" Matthew asked with a smirk.

"The name Alexander and yes, I'm," Alex replied.

"I will be the referee then," Mitsuki said.

"Fine with me, but I don't expect this match to be a long one because I plan to win," Matthew stated.

"I wouldn't be sure of that until the battle begins," Alex said.

Mitsuki walked over towards a tree. He got ready to referee the match between Alex and Matthew.

"If both trainers are ready, choose your first Pokemon," Mitsuki said.

"Spearow, come lead me your strength!" Matthew said with a smirk as he threw a Pokeball, sending out Spearow.

Spearow is a small avian Pokemon. It has rough, brown plumage on its head and three brown tail feathers. It has narrow, dark brown eyes with white pupils and a short hooked beak that is light pink. The feathers covering its wings are pinkish red with lighter tips, and it has a beige underside with two thin, horizontal stripes. Its light pink feet have two toes in front and one in the back. Black feathers cover its back.

"A Spearow cool!" Alex said, taking out his pokedex and pointed it at Spearow.

"Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. Inept at flying high. However, it can fly around very fast to protect its territory. Eats bugs in grassy areas. It has to flap its short wings at high speed to stay airborne."

'A flying type, my best bet would be Totodile then. Since ground-type moves from my sandshrew wouldnt work. Though he does have some other moves.' Alex thought, putting away his pokedex before reaching for a Pokeball.

"Alright, I choose you, Hiroka," Alex said, grabbing his Totodile Pokeball sent him out to battle.

"That Pokemon perfect," Matthew said.

"I don't know why you say that but whatever, let's do this, Hiroka, my Totodile," Alex said with a smile.

"Well, alright, if both sides are ready, begin!" Mitsuki commanded, signaling for the match to start.

"Totodile, I see that the Pokemon name," Matthew muttered. "Spearow, use Peck!" He commanded.

"Spearow!" Spearow cried out, and it flew towards Hiroka.

"Dodge and use Water Gun!" Alex commanded.

Hiroka jumped in the air and avoided the upcoming peck, then jumped back down and blasted water from its mouth at Spearow.

"Get up, Spearow. Don't let this Totodile beat you," Matthew stated.

Spearow got up and shook its head before letting out a loud cry, ready to continue.

"Hiroka Scratch!" Alex yelled.

"Avoid it with Agility, and then go in with Steel Wing!" Matthew commanded as Totodile ran towards Spearow with its claws getting sharp, but Spearow avoided it by flying around very fast.

"Spearow!" Spearow cried out as its wings turned sliver as it flew towards Hiroka.

"Hiroka, dodge and use Water Gun!" Alex commanded.

Totodile jumped away before blasting water from its mouth again at Spearow, knocking it to the ground.

"Get up and use quick attack!" Matthew yelled as Spearow slowly got back up, and flew at Totodile, and quickly slammed into him.

"Hang in there and use Bite!" Alex yelled as Hiroka got up and clamped its strong jaw onto Spearow's wing, making it cry out in pain.

Spearow broke flew and landed on the ground panting until it passed out.

"Spearow unable to battle the winner is Hiroka the Totodile!" Mitsuki announced.

"Spearow return; we discuss your performance later," Matthew said, returning Spearow to his Pokeball.

"Hiroka, you take a break inside of your Pokeball," Alex said, returning Totodile to his Pokeball as he let out a loud victory cheer before disappearing into his Pokeball.

"Alright, this final match claims the winner of this battle," Matthew stated.

"Agree it's your turn, Sandra, my Sandshrew!" Alex called out as his Sandshrew came out of its Pokeball.

"Sandshrew a ground type. This will be a challenge for my second Pokemon," Matthew muttered.

"Really, why that?" Alex asked.

"No reason, but here's my second Pokemon. Get ready to battle and lead me your power!" Matthew said as he tossed a Pokeball forward, and out came a Charmander

Charmander is a bipedal, reptilian Pokemon with a primarily orange body and blue eyes. Its underside from the chest down and the soles of its feet are cream-colored. It has two small fangs visible in its upper jaw and two smaller fangs in its lower jaw. A fire burns at the tip of this Pokémon's slender tail.

"Charmander, so you must have started recently and got Chamander from Professor Oak's lab," Alex said.

"Not that It's your busy, but yes, I did," Matthew said.

"I don't what with the attitude, but I started recently too, but I got my Totodile from Johto," Alex replied.

"I don't have an attitude just see no point in being nice to a rival, and it explains why I don't recognize that Pokemon," Matthew explained. Alex shrugged at Matthew's response.

"If both sides are ready, let the second match begin!" Mitsuki announced.

"Charmander, use Growl!" Matthew commanded.

Charmander let out a growl, lowing Sandra's attack power.

"Sandra, I know your attack has been lower, so let's do damage with multiple Fury Swipes to make up for that!" Alex shouted.

"Sand, shrew!" Sandra cried out as she ran towards Charmander with her claws glowing white.

"Smokescreen and then Ember!" Matthew ordered.

Charmander covered Sadra's vision with black smoke and then used the smoke to hide Its presence as it sucked up on Sandshrew and used Ember.

"Sandra!" Alex yelled as he saw he get sent flying out of the smoke.

"Now, let's use our new attack, Body Slam!" Matthew commanded.

Charmander appeared from the smoke and slammed into Sandshrew.

"Hang in there, Sandra, and dig underground!" Alex shouted.

Sandshrew nodded and went underground.

"Chamander sense its presence and dodge and then use Ember again!"

Charmander closed its eyes and listened for the movement underground to detect where Sandshrew was, sending flying in the air as Sandshrew came up and smacked into Charmander.

Charmander got up, panting, and split a small orange flame at Sandra making her fall back, panting as well.

"Why do we call this a draw," Mitsuki said.

"Fine, it's a draw, but next time it won't be. Now return Charmander," Matthew said as he returned Charmander to his Pokeball.

"Agree because I plan to win next time," Alex said, returning Sandshrew.

"Keep dreaming anyway. I have a gym badge to win," Matthew said, walking past Alex and into the Viridian Forest.

"Geez, he takes rivalry seriously," Alex said.

"Not everyone likes to be friends after a battle," Mitsuki stated.

"Good point. We should get going as well in this forest. It Is quite long, and I guess It will take a few days to get through it," Alex said.

"Yeah, after Pewter City gym, we split up after battling and continue to grow stronger on separate journeys," Mitsuki said.

"Agree that was the plan as we both agree to go to Kanto for our first journey," Alex said as he and Mitsuki entered Viridian Forest.

To be Continued...

Here you go, chapter five is completed. Alex has his first rival battle against Matthew, his less friendly rival. He and Mitsuki finally enter Viridian Forest to begin their journey to Pewter City. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
