Chapter 9: Found Fellow Friend 7-29-16
Aragorn and Gimli were making some good distance as they run across the grass valley. For the past couple of minutes though, Aragorn had been watching a brown dust cloud get closer and closer to them. It was out in the distance in front of them quite a ways.
Once they got close enough Aragorn could tell what it was. They were horses with riders. Suddenly they stopped and started circling something. Gimli could tell Aragorn was very intent with the horses and asked,
"What is it?"
"Those riders are circling something," Aragorn said without looking at Gimli, "Let's go see what they got,"
Aragorn started running faster and harder. Gimli did too as he panted hard.
"Riders of Rohan!" Aragorn shouted.
All the riders turned around and looked surprised to see a man and a dwarf behind them. The main leader of the riders walked out of the circle and pointed his drawn sword at Aragorn and Gimli. They put their hands up, but only as high as their chests.
"We are friends of Rohan and Theoden your king," Aragorn explained.
"Theoden no longer recognizes friend from foe. Not even his own kin," the man said, "Come, stand in the circle,"
The man led Aragorn and Gimli into the already formed circle of Rohan riders. Their eyes grew huge as Aragorn and Gimli saw who was already in the circle. Not the Hobbits, not orcs, and not Boromir... It was Legolas. The three companions couldn't contain their happiness as they all embraced into a huge hug. They were all outstanded to see that they were all alive and well. The Rohan leader watched with a confused and surprised face. He had expected them to all be strangers to one another.
A/N: There is no fire... i just addded it becasue it made the scene more dramatic. :-D
"I thought you were dead!" Gimli shouted at Legolas.
"I thought you guys were dead!" Legolas exclaimed, "I have lots to tell you!"
Aragorn smiled at his found friend and Legolas beamed back at him. They had found each other.
"What's this all about?" the Rohan man suddenly said, "Who are you?"
Aragorn turned to the man and trying to stay serious he said,
"I am Aragorn son of Arathorn. This is Gimli son of Gloin. And this is Legolas of the Woodland Realm,"
The man nodded and said,
"I am Eomer. Marshal of Riddermark," Eomer said.
As he said this, something told him that these people seemed familiar somehow. We have two men, a dwarf, and an elf coming after us one of Hobbits had said. He remembered what the two Hobbits had told him yesterday and decided to ask the same question he had asked them,
"And what business do you have this close to Isengard?"
"We track a band of Uruk- Hai westward across the plains. They have taken four of our friend's captive," Aragorn explained. As he spoke he saw Eomer's face expression change so he went on, "Have you seen them? They would all be small. Only children in your eyes,"
The three companions saw Eomer smile slightly as Aragorn said the word 'Children'. Eomer remembered that's exactly what he thought Frodo and Sam were.
"Well?" Gimli asked impatiently.
Eomer snapped back into the present at the dwarf's impatient voice,
"Yesterday we came across two. They said they had escaped and were going after their other two friends,"
The companion's faces lit up but then they thought which two Hobbits escaped?
"Did their names go by Merry and Pippin? They would have been wearing yellow and blue,"
But even before Aragorn had explained what they were wearing Eomer was already shaking his head. When Aragorn was finished he said,
"No, they went by Frodo and Sam,"
"Oh no!" Aragorn whispered.
Why had they gone back? Maybe there was a reason they had gone back, but they are walking the Ring into the hands of the enemy. Aragorn thought to himself. Legolas and Gimli were surely thinking the same thing too because they had also gone silent.
"Wait," Eomer said. He had just remembered the Hobbits telling him that there were four people after them, not three. He said, "They said that four of you would be coming after them... not three," he looked confused.
"We were betrayed by the fourth," Aragorn said and glanced at Legolas whom he thought would have a reaction. Legolas just stood there with no expression. Somehow he already knew.
"Well, I will send you on your way then," Eomer finally said. He whistled and called the names, "Hasfel! Arod!" two horses appeared from somewhere outside the circle of riders, "May these horses bear you to better fortune than the former masters,"
With that, Eomer put back on his helmet, which had been off the whole time, and climbed on top of his horses. He nodded a farewell and yelled out, "We ride north!"
All the Rohan riders galloped away leaving Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli standing there with their new horses. One of light brown and one of creamy white. The three reunited companions all got on the horses. Gimli and Legolas rode together on the white horse and Aragorn rode alone on the brown horse.
They had their horses go into a slow galloped so they could talk. Legolas told his friends all about what had happened to him:
He had been fighting off a whole bunch of orcs and had lost sight of Aragorn, Gimli and Boromir, but kept fighting. All of a sudden all the orcs ignored him and started running away. Legolas had guessed the orcs had succeeded in taking the Hobbits and which he thought that something happened to Aragorn, Boromir, and Gimli. He had called out everybody's names, but the only person who answered was Boromir. He had a wicked grin on his face and as soon as he got close to Legolas he had said,
"I'm going after the Ring... alone,"
"Where are the others?" Legolas asked.
"Are you blind elf? They have all fallen!" Boromir said in response and then walked away deeper into the forest.
Legolas stood there for a moment not knowing what to think or do. But suddenly he knew he had to go after Boromir.
"I went after him, but somehow lost him in the woods. Eventually I gave up search and decided I was the only one left that could save the Hobbits and Middle Earth. So I set off to find them. And now we are here," Legolas explained.
Aragorn and Gimli filled in Legolas what had all happened to them. And before long the three companions saw a small black dot in the distance. It was Orthanc which meant they were close to Isengard and to saving the Hobbits and the Ring.
A/N: I'm sure you are all happy Legolas is back! But where is Boromir? Anybody know? The next chapter will be really good... very unexpected perhaps :-)
