You sit alone, shivering on the plastic bench next to the bus stop sign with no bus in sight.  You know busses come every thirty minutes.  One at the top of the hour, and one a half hour later.  You look at your watch to find that it reads 12:05 PM.  Perfect.  Just perfect.  All you wanted right now is to get far away from the boys before they had a chance to stop you.  The minutes began to roll slowly by.  Suddenly you begin to hear footsteps to your right.  You look to see five teenage boys walking toward you.  You see Liam and Louis with Niall’s arms across their shoulders and Niall limping between them.  As they get closer you notice Zayn has a black eye, Louis has a bloody lip, Harry has a bruise across his face, and Liam has a bloody nose to match Niall’s.  They stop beside the bench.  They all give you a weak hello.

“Hey, guys,” you say.

The boys help Niall onto the bench beside you.  You smile at him and he painfully smiles back.

“We’re sorry,” Liam says.

“Yeah, we really messed up,” Louis explains. 

“We shouldn’t have gotten so jealous of each other,” Zayn continued.

“I just wanted a kiss,” Harry says.

Liam gave him a quick playful flick to the head.  Harry chuckles and you smile.

“You are just so beautiful!” Zayn says.

“You’re also kind,” Liam says.

“Thanks boys,” you say with a smile. 

Louis sits on your left side and sighs happily.  Liam, Zayn, and Harry gather around the bench.

“We talked it through,” Liam says, “and we’ve decided that it would be best to let you go home.”

A wave of disappointment swept over you, but you see the entire point in that.

“It will give us a chance to work harder at our job for a while,” Zayn explains.

“Yeah, and so you can get back to school,” Louis says.

“Back to your family and friends,” Liam adds.

Friends.  You hadn’t thought of them since the night they ditched you.  You decided right then and there that you wouldn’t tell them of your adventure with their favorite boy band of all time.  They could get a little jealous.

“Maybe someday we can meet again and hang out,” Niall suggests.

You smile.

“I would like that a lot,” you say.  “Thanks, boys.  That sounds like a good idea.”

“Here, let me give you my phone number!” Louis exclaims.

“Oh yeah, and mine!” Niall says.

You give Louis your phone and he puts his number in.  Louis hands your phone to Niall and he does the same.  A moment later you have all five boys’ numbers in your phone.

“Put your number in mine!” Harry says, handing you his phone.

“Mine too,” Zayn says, giving you his too.

You are showered with their phones and one by one you punch your number in and hand them back.

“Just make sure you don’t give anyone else our numbers, okay?” Liam says.

“Yeah, it would be good if you just didn’t mention you have them at all,” Louis says.

“Oh don’t worry,” you say, “I won’t.”

Several more long minutes pass, but you’re no longer cold.  The warmth of all of the boys around you is enough.  Then you see something moving in the distance.  The bus.  It draws nearer and the boys spot it.

“I guess this is good-bye,” Liam says.

You stand up.

“Yeah, but we’ll see each other sometime soon,” you smile.

“I can’t wait!” Louis says.

“Me neither,” Harry says.

The bus stops at the curb.  Louis stands and helps Niall get up.  The other three boys come around the bench and stand in a line next to them.  Starting at one end of it, you kiss each one on the cheek. 

“I’ll see you guys later,” you say, placing a foot on the bus’s step.

“Bye!” they all say at once, waving.

You smile and get into the bus.  The door closes behind you and you rush to the nearest open seat to look out the window at them waving.  You wave back as they get farther and farther away.  Soon they disappear all together, and you’re left waving at nothing.  Never before have you felt this alone.
