With a loud scream a girl about the age of 12 woke up. Her pale face was drenched in cold sweat and she was panting hard. Her name is Dawn.

Minutes passed and Dawn finally calmed down and looked around. The morning sunlight broke through her curtains, causing her dull room to brighten up a bit. The room was very small and dark and the only thing it had was a small bed , a tiny book shelf, a tiny bathroom and an alarm clock. There was only one window and it was very small. No mirror, no desk or stuff people would find in a girl's room. Surprisingly there were no light bulbs or lamps either. The only source of light was the sunlight.

Stretching she got off her bed. That was scary...for a second I thought it was real.. Dawn thought scratching her head. Nightmares by now have become a part of her life. Her beautiful blue narrow eyes, trailed towards the clock. For a second she just stared at the clock and the clock simply went tic tock tic tock.

With a sudden gasp she stumbled out of her bed. It was already 9:30 am and she was running late in doing her morning chores.

Jura is gonna kill me!!

Jura Watanabe was her step mother. Her father had remarried Jura 8 years ago and ever since then her life had turned into a living hell. Jura was definitely not the kind hearted woman, her father thought of as. She was extremely bossy and cruel and for some reason despised Dawn.

Everything was fine with Dawn's family until her real mother suddenly disappeared one night, when she was 3 years old. Her father told her, after an year that her mother was dead due to an accident. Her father's behavior changed after his remarriage. He became very cold and distant and he barely cared about Dawn anymore.

Dawn quickly brushed her teeth and took a quick shower and ran downstairs wearing a very old and colorless shirt and a coffee stained Jean. Her father did buy her clothes but never really cared if she put them on or not. As for Dawn, she never received the clothes her father brought her. Why? Because Jura took them away. Jura had always been extremely jealous of Dawn since she was Gen's first wife's daughter. She had always wanted to trample their bond and get rid of Dawn , so she used all sorts of ways to severe their bond. And she was quite successful. Over time Gen, Dawn's father, grew distant from Dawn and slowly disregarded her entire existence.

Dawn stopped running and stopped in front of an old family photo that Jura had tried to take off dozens of times, but was never able to. It was the photo of Dawn and her father. Her eyes narrowed a bit at the tender memory of her past child self and her loving father. That memory now was nothing but an old old dream, that had been locked away.

The very reason why Dawn had not run away was because of her father. Her heart told her, that her father was ignorant about Juras cruel behaviour towards her. And when he would come to know of it , he would kick Jura out and they can go back to their happy family life.

The silver ray of hope still remained in her heart , that her father still loved her. She was not certain..but she still hoped.

Sighing, she went back to her chores. From doing the laundry to cleaning all the rooms from top to bottom including the basement and kitchen. Dawn was not not allowed to eat with the entire family, so she always ate after they had finished their meal.

There was another reason why she was an outcast in her family. Dawn was not exactly a human. She was half dragon and half human. Something that would freak anyone out. And it freaked out her family. Being a half dragon gave Dawn the advantage of having super powers. Her most useful power was her ability to heal extremely fast.

Dawn was not sure how she became a hybrid. She had no memories of her mother, just a few hazy glimpses. The reason she couldn't remember was something she didn't know. It was sudden. When she turned 4 all the memories of her mother and everything related to her mother just vanished.

After 4 hours of continuous work, Dawn sat down for a quick break. If Jura caught her taking even a second of rest , she would not hear the end of it. There were also dire consequences for resting. Rubbing a long scar on her left hand, Dawn winced at the memory.

Flashback (Dawn's Childhood:- Age 5 )

Dawn's tiny hands trembled at the sight of broken cups. She could not believe that she broke 3 cups at a time. Jura is not gonna be happy about it.. And she was right. When she found out what happened, Dawn experienced hell for the first time. The first thing she got was a slap on her pale cheek. The slap was so powerful that it knocked the poor child off the stool. It turned red and swelled up and Dawn started sobbing. She was not used to being hit so badly and this woman that was posing as her mother just hit her. And it hurt. And the only person Dawn could call for, while sobbing, was her father.

"Papa!!!-" she wailed but was cut off by Jura.

"Stop crying you little wench! " Jura screeched grabbing a fist full of Dawn's long hair and pulling her to her feet. The poor child screamed louder in pain and yelled for her father to rescue her from this beastly woman.

"PAPAAAAAA!!!!!"

"I will show you what you get for breaking MY cutlery!!!"  Saying so Jura yanked Dawn out of the kitchen and kept dragging her to the basement. No matter how much the small child protested and screamed she did not let go. "Hold out your hand!" She ordered menacingly. Dawn shook her head no. "Y-you are not my mommy!!!! I want my mommy!!!!" Dawn cried and it pissed Jura even more.

"I said hand." Jura's tone dropped low and it was a final warning for Dawn.

Trembling, Dawn did as she was told and the next thing she knew was, she was screaming in pain. Her hand had a huge gash and blood was trickling down fast.

In Jura's hand was a small red paper-cutter, which she kept dragging painfully all the way from the little girls elbow to palm. "Repeat that mistake again..and I will add two more. Am I clear?! " Jura snarled at the petrified child. The 25 year old had never gone this far with her abuse. It was always verbal and never physical. But this had changed ever since 'that' incident.
------------------------------------------------------------

The incident happened on November 25, on a chilly afternoon. It was Dawn's 5th birthday, yet she sat on the roof snifffling sadly, hands wrapped around herself for warmth. Her father had decided to priortise his date with Jura more and had left the kid alone with her stepchildren, who in turn bullied her from morning till noon, breaking her precious toys and pulling her hair.

Feeling unsafe, the scared child fled and had decided to hide on the rooftop and wait for her father to come home. What she did not ever expect was for them to find her minutes later, eyes promising more pain. A lot of  yelling, kicking and punching commenced, and the next thing she knew, she was falling. Time had seemed to slow as her vision shifted and twisted, before coming to a standstill. At that moment the 5 year old thought she was going to die.

All of a sudden, a gust of wind had come out of nowhere, and the 5 year old's fall ceased to a gentle float. As soon as her feet touched the ground, the wind died. Slowly opening her eyes, the young trooper patted her body to check for injuries when she felt eyes on her. Turning her head to her side, she found her father staring at her horrified, and Jura next to him with a very smug grin on her face. In the man's hand was a small, pink-wrapped gift that slipped out of his grip and fell soundlessly to the ground.

Her father became a different man after that.

------------------------------------------------------------

"W-why do you hate me so much?! What did I do to you?" Dawn whimpered, writhing in pain. Jura's lips tugged up in a very cruel grin. "Oh? You don't know?" the woman's bony fingers gripped Dawn's chin roughly. "Beasts like you..deserve this. Even your father knows that!" Jura sneered, eyes narrowing with malice and hate. Kicking the kid to the ground, she left Dawn in the basement. "No!!! Don't leave me here!! I am Sorry!! I am sorry!! I will behave!! Please don't leave me here!"

The poor child kept screaming apologies, desperately praying for her father to rescue her. But he never came, no matter how much she banged at the door. Dawn was left all alone in that cold dark basement to tend to herself on her own. Her wound bled and bled till she lost consciousness. Nobody helped her. Even if Dawn was very young, she had realised that she was all alone now. That day she was not given anything to eat.

(Flashback ends)

Yes, from that day her hell had begun. She had gotten injured so many times that she got used to it. It did not hurt her anymore for she had become numb. Luckily, the only thing Jura could not stop Dawn from doing was going to school. She was an average student with some As and Bs. Sadly she was never able to make any friends at school. The reason was that , her step siblings had made sure that everyone knew what a freak Dawn was. And due to that, they avoided her like plague. Everyone avoiding her was both, a blessing and a curse. Blessing in the sense , nobody dared bully her and curse in the sense , she was outcasted and all alone.

Another sigh escaped her lips as she stood up and started cleaning the dishes. That woman's lazy. After drying the final plate, Dawn was finished with her chores. The front door suddenly opened, so she went to check who it was, only to find Jura. Behind her were her step siblings, all of them carrying large bags. Did they buy the whole shop.. or something? Dawn could feel herself sweat dropping.

Living with this beastly woman, Dawn had learnt to master her emotions and facial expression. She had ceased her crying and yelling, which frustrated Jura greatly. She wanted this brat to suffer and cry and writhe In pain. Instead, Dawn only gave her a vacant look. She would never let Jura feel the satisfaction of hitting her.

"What are you looking at?!!! Come here and help my children carry the heavy bags!!!!" Jura screeched snapping Dawn out of her thoughts. Dawn's eyes narrowed and her lips pressed against each other in a thin line. She erased all traces of emotions off her face she almost snatched off all the bags from them. Heavy? They are lighter than them.

Dawn dumped them in their respective rooms and went back to see if anything else was left. Only her father was left with a heavy suitcase. When Dawn raised her hand to take the suitcase, he simply walked past her, like Dawn didn't exist.

I knew it...he ignored me as usual...

Dawn bit her lips to suppress her sadness .

"DAWN!!! "

Jura's screeching made her roll her eyes.

What does she want now..annoying woman.

Dawn went to the living room and immediately her eyes landed on the suitcases on the ground. "We are going to New York for three months. Dawn, you shall stay here and guard the house. I have placed some money in the kitchen cupboard and some food in the fridge." She said. The way she pronounced Dawn's name was almost like she was poisoning her. Still...it isn't like her to leave money and food.. Dawn felt greatly suspicious of Jura's behaviour but shrugged it off.

It's a great thing I won't have to see your ugly beastly face for three months hag.

Dawn simply nodded.

Night time soon arrived and all of them left for the airport. The huge house was suddenly empty and silent, but in a good way. It was peaceful. Now Dawn was free to do whatever she want for three whole months. Dawn's stomach rumbled loudly. She remembered that she still had not eaten her lunch yet. After locking the door she went to the kitchen to get the food left for her. But what she found out was an empty fridge. No food. No water . Nothing at all. She checked the cupboard for money. It was empty as well.

As expected of that bitch.

Dawn's stomach kept rumbling so she went to her room and grabbed some money she earned doing odd chores for others like delivering vegetables to customers, for her neighbour or cleaning their basements or garages. It was very little money so she carefully spent it on bread and milk. She couldn't afford to use them all. She ate them in silence, often glancing at the clock.

Maybe I should practice my powers..

After eating, Dawn sat down on the couch and meditated for a while. Meditation had always helped her keep her cool and increase her concentration. She imagined herself in a forest with nothing but greenery and chirping of birds. For some reason, Dawn had always wanted to live in a forest, completely free and wild, away from her family. A thick book laid open infront of her containing various spells and steps to chant them. It was one of the strange books she found in her room while cleaning, 6.5 years ago and they belonged to her mother. It was plain curiosity which opened her eyes to a whole new world- A world full of magic. It was also how she figured out that she did not belong in the human race entirely. Opening her eyes she focused on the water in the bowl, which started to rise .

"Drakain Elemus- Agaira Gairs." The water started to twist and circled fast and created a mini whirlpool. It jerked around wildly trying to escape her focus. She concentrated hard, on keeping it going for about an hour before letting it drop back into the bowl. Water was the hardest element for her to control. Her mana orb did not properly respond to water. Next, she practiced her other elements. Unlike water, fire seemed the easiest to tame. She had no problem in manipulating it at her will.

Hours went by and Dawn was extremely exhausted. She flopped back on the sofa sighing at the fluffiness of it. The landline suddenly started ringing making her groan. She got up and made her way to the kitchen where the landline was and picked it up.

"Hello, Kawamori residence. Who is this?" Dawn asked fiddling with the wire . There was a pause before the person on the other end spoke.

"Its me." Gen spoke . Dawn was a bit startled. It had been a long time she last spoke to her father. Bitting her lips she thought of the reasons why he called her. Maybe he has finally decided to leave Jura?

"There is something I must tell you." The seriousness and coldness in her fathers tone snapped her back to attention.

"What is it??" Now Dawn felt anxious. Something did not feel good. She had a bad feeling about this. Another long pause did not help the situation at all. Her anxiety kept increasing.

" ....We have decided to transfer to New York." He said carefully picking his words. Transfer?..well that was different from what i imagined.

"Oh..ok. I will get my stuff packed then...who is gonna pick me up..?" She asked. Her tone was nervous but a bit relieved. Another pause and a sigh.

"...You are not coming with us." That one sentence, froze her. Was she hearing things? Or did her father asked her to not come?

"W-..What do you mean?.."...she stuttered. Her heart was pounding against her chest.

"I have signed you up for the foster care. A couple has decided to take you in." He said. There was another long pause .

"....This will be the last time we are speaking to each other-"

"You...are abandoning...me?...." Dawn's tiny voice cut Gen off. Dawn's hands shook. Her lips trembled and her eyes stung. The silver ray of hope vanished from her heart.

"Goodbye, Dawn." With that he cut off the call. The phone slowly slipped from Dawn's hand and fell to the floor. She dropped to her knees clutching her sides. The old memory suddenly flashed in her head .

"Even your father knows you are a monster!!!!"

Juras voice echoed in her head .

The massive amount of pain that was dealt to her heart was too much. Tears kept pouring out of her eyes to the floor. Everything felt dark.

...He..abandoned..me..

As soon as the realization struck Dawn, she opened her mouth in an anguished scream. She kept screaming at the top of her lungs till her voice broke. She punched and pounded the floor till her knuckles bled. The clock ticked by and the only sound that echoed in the house were her screams and the thuds of her punches.

After an hour went by, she stood up unsteadily and walked around like a zombie. Her eyes were wide in shock and her nose was red from crying. She stopped in front of the photo of her and her father. She stared at it blankly and felt a surge of rage suddenly fill her heart. The only emotion she could feel now was sorrow and rage. A low growl escaped her mouth as she picked the photo frame and threw it on the ground, hard. The glass shattered to pieces , just like her heart did. She felt betrayed. So betrayed. Angry tears escaped her eyes and fell down on the photo.

She picked up the photo from under the shattered glasses and shredded it to pieces. She gritted her teeth as she looked down at the shattered glass that reflected her face. Her cheeks were tear stained and her eyes were almost red in anger.

Why...?

Just..why..?

She leaned against the wall, slowly sliding down. She hugged her legs to her chest, tightly. She had nobody left. Everyone had left her alone. A few tears slid down her dead eyes and fell to the floor.

TIMESKIP:-

Hours had gone by, and Dawn had drifted off to sleep.
.
.
.
.

.
.

Dawn.....
.
.
.
.

A voice soft as a feather called for her. Slowly, Dawn opened her tired puffy eyes and found herself in the darkness again. Why now?

Dawn....

That same voice called for her again. For some strange reason she found it familiar. She looked around for the source of the sound. There was an orb of white light floating in the middle of the darkness. Curiousity took over her as she slowly walked towards it. When she was close enough, the light suddenly engulfed her. Startled, she tried to fight it but it was of no use. The dark space was suddenly filled with brightness. Adjusting her eyes to this suddenly bright space, she gasped. A beautiful girl, of her age, appeared out of nowhere. She had the same pale complexion as Dawn and her features matched Dawn's.

Infact...they looked alike. Except for their hair and eyes. Dawn stared at her, her mouth agape. Who is this girl..?
Dawn felt like she was staring into a mirror.
The girl was smiling cheerfully as she too took in Dawn's appearance.

"I finally found you.." she spoke. So that soft..voice was hers..

"Who are you?" Dawn asked her. "Why were you searching for me...?" The girl smiled and hugged Dawn. The warmth the girl gave out was so comforting that Dawn couldn't push her away. That girl felt so familiar and so warm. Dawn felt her eyes tearing up and her cheeks getting wet. But why?

"I am..so sorry..." the girl spoke after pulling away and slowly cupping Dawn's cheek. She looked ashamed and sad for some reason. "Please forgive me for not coming soon..." she said softly eyeing Dawn's scarred hand. Why...is ...this..girl apologising...to me?... Dawn was confused .

"You had to go through so much...my little sister..." the mysterious girl hugged Dawn once again. But Dawn's eyes were wide like saucers.

HER WHAT?!!!!!!!
