Chapter 22

Hey guys! If you don't already know, this book will soon be coming to an end!

What I want to know from you guys, is if I should do another book after this one?

And if yes, who's point of view should I do it from?

Let me know in the comments.

Also. This next chapter is a little intense. If you don't like intense imagery, I suggest you hold tight until the next chapter.

Thank you. x

Jayla Santiago's POV

"Where are you going?" Kofi asks, looking up at me, while he munches on his toast, crumbs all over his face.

I chuckle and take a wad of tissue, waving it under the tap.

I then tip Kofi's face upwards and gently and then I wipe his mouth gently.

"I just have to run an errand, don't worry bout it baby" I tell him, rubbing his hair.

He smiles up at me.

"Are you and dad back together now?" He asks.

I freeze and look away.

"Are you blushing, Jay Jay?" Kofi asks with a giggle.

Just I'm about to answer, the man himself walks into the kitchen.

My heart starts to pound and my breath involuntarily hitches.

Woah...

Bare chested and his jeans from last night hanging dangerously low on his hips, held together by his loosely tied belt.

His dark skin almost glows against the paler colours of the kitchen, his muscular shoulders and arms flexing and relaxing as he stretches, making his mostly hidden v-line contract and relax with the rest of him.

I gulp.

Fuck.

I watch him as he leans down to kiss his son's forehead and tells him good morning.

He then instructs Kofi to go and play, since it's Saturday and he has finished his homework, focusing on me.

My heart skips as his lips curl into a slow, knowingly panty dropping smile.

Kofi leaves the room completely oblivious, leaving me with his dad.

I smile back and try to act nonchalant, but he can see through me like wind.

He approaches me, hands in pockets, almost oozing dominance, so much so that I nearly step back, when he gets closer.

I grip the counter behind me.

"Luis" I greet.

"Jay" he responds, his voice low and extremely close to my ear, making my senses fly off of the tracks.

"How'd you sleep?" I ask, trying to make sure that my voice doesn't shake.

He bends to kiss my neck and the prickly stubble on his face, rubs against my jaw, making my sensitive skin become even more sensitive.

"I didn't do much of that last night"

He smirks as my hands come up to grip his.

He snakes his large hands to my waist, pressing himself into me from behind.

"Luis!" I gasp softly.

"I was just about to shower. Want to save some water?" He asks, kissing my ear again, pressing into my backside a little bit more.

His lips move along my neck and shoulder.

I'm about to give in, when my thoughts move back to last night.

"You don't love me Jayla. You love the idea of me."

I pull away, turning to face him so that I'm not tempted to touch him.

"Hm, I'm gonna have to rain check you on that, okay?" I tell him.

He nods, understandingly.

"You going somewhere?" He asks, taking in my appearance.

I look up at him.

"I have an errand to run. I'll be home soon" I tell him.

It's then that I realise that I have called Luis' house, home.

Shit.

He doesn't seem to notice, and I feel myself relax.

"Sure thing. Just call me and let me know." He tells me.

He is about to walk away, when I call him.

"Luis" I say.

He turns to me.

"Yes, Jayla?" He asks.

"C'mere" I say.

He walks up to me, eyes holding a sea of questions.

I hold his jaw and pull him down to kiss me.

"I'll be back soon" I say softly, once I've pulled away.

He nods speechlessly.

I move away from him and grab my gym bag, zipping my jacket up and then walking out of his house, closing the door behind me.

Time to get this done.

***

Luna Anderson's POV.

"Shit" I mutter as I drop my house keys on the floor just outside my apartment.

I bend to pick them up and hear someone from behind me wolf whistles.

I ignore them and walk into my apartment, pulling my extremely short skirt down.

It's unlocked.

Just how much did I drink last night, for me to leave my door unlocked?!

I sigh and I continue to walk into the apartment, dumping the groceries on the floor and stretching.

I move to the front room and nearly gag.

It stinks in here, shit!

I mutter a string of curse words and move to turn on the lights.

In doing so, I manage to kick something and I nearly trip over.

What the fuck?

It moved a little.

I look down at what I kicked and I nearly jump.

Mason?

Mason is my landlord. I've been sleeping with his sleazy ass for some time now.

The rent needs to be paid, so...

I must have left him here before I went to the club last night.

Ugh.

I nudge him with my leg.

He doesn't move.

Is he?

I reach down to check his pulse.

"He's dead" a familiar voice says softly.

"Ahhh!" I scream, stepping back.

My head whips to the source of the noise and in the dimness of the room, my eyes start adjusting to the lack of light.

There is someone in my house?!

I blink a couple of times, when the lampshade next to them is turned on.

My heart hits my shoes.

A woman sits comfortably in one of my arm chairs.

She wears all black and rests her legs up on one of the arms, looking at me expressionlessly.

She looks like something out of a French magazine!

Long tight-clad legs. A black skirt, a long black jacket and a pair of black leather gloves.

Her hair is cornrowed into two parts, her edges laid and her toffee coloured skin giving off a soft natural glow.

"Luna" she greets.

"Jayla?" I whisper.

What is she doing here?

Has this got something to do with Luis?

It's been a while.

She looks really good!

But why is she in my house?

Did she kill Mason?!

Of course she did, Lulu, she's a criminal!

I reach for the baseball bat that I usually keep behind the counter.

She giggles and I freeze.

"Don't even bother" she says softly.

My eyes widen has she reaches next to her and stands my baseball bat up, twirling the handle in her fingers casually.

I stare at her.

She nods to the lifeless body on the floor.

"Mason, right?" She asks.

I flinch at the sound of his name.

"W- Why'd you kill him?" I ask, my voice a shaky whisper.

She smirks softly at me, dropping the baseball bat with a heavy 'clang' making me jump.

"I felt like it" she responds, her voice suddenly cold.

"B-But why?!" I ask.

"Let me ask the questions" she demands.

I bite my tongue.

She lets her eyes run over me with disgust.

"This Mason guy. He's old, married and he's clearly a sleaze bag. And what? You sleep with him I'm guessing?" She asks, nodding to his left hand.

I don't answer and she grins.

"He woke up, high when I walked in. I wasn't expecting him to be here. He got irritable and tried to sleep with me, so I had to shut him up." she says nonchalantly.

"He could have done better than the likes of you" she says almost casually.

I look away and she kisses her teeth.

"Look at me" she hisses, sounding annoyed.

I force myself to look at her.

It is then that I feel something warm move across my feet.

I look at my feet to find that they are pooled in blood.

Mason's blood.

I stagger back and choke on my spit.

How the fuck?

I look at Jayla to see that now she is sitting up, a gun in her left hand.

It must be a silencer.

I look back at him to see three bullets.

Two in his head, one in his back.

My body starts to shake violently as a deranged smirk appears on her face.

"I lied before. He wasn't dead, just knocked out... but he is now" she says.

I gulp.

I've known Jayla for a long time.

Between Myself, her and Temah, she was the quietest one.

She was really shy and considerate.

Temah was the intellectual, witty one and I was the loud fun one.

Everyone loved Jayla though.

She was the 'prettiest' one.
The 'coolest' one.
The 'rich', 'sweet' 'caring' one who could have anyone and anything she wanted.

Teachers loved her.

Students loved her.

Luis... probably still loves her.

So I tried to take him off her.

By force.

I was obsessed.

With the fact that he loved her.

More than anything. He wanted her to always be happy and he wanted to make sure that he could make her feel loved.

I wanted that.

And he wasn't difficult to look at, even now.

And I -

I... Did some things that I shouldn't have.

I got a son that I planned, to use to trap Luis.

But that went left.

She chuckles.

"You ever heard of Bonnie?" She asks.

Tears start to form in my eyes as pure fear takes over.

She's Bonnie?!

But how?!

On God, I feel sick!

I step back hitting the counter behind me.

I'm trapped.

She picks my lighter off the coffee table, picking out a cigarette from behind her ear.

"D'you mind?" She asks rhetorically.

I stay frozen with fear.

She takes a long drag of the glowing cigarette her eyes fluttering shut as lets it out of her nose, sitting back in the chair, opening her eyes to focus her steely gaze on me, putting the lighter in her pocket.

Her dark brown eyes are cold and unwavering.

"What do you want from me?" I ask.

There is a lump in my throat, my level of fear smacking the roof.

"Is it Luis? You can have him back!" I say in a panic.

Idiot!

Her face twists into a cold snarl.

"I can't take something that's already mine" she says, standing up.

"Jayla, please" I beg as he stretches out her muscles.

She looks at me.

"What?" She asks as if I'm a pain in the ass.

"Don't do this." I say.

She puts the cigarette back to her lips.

"Don't do what?" She asks getting closer.

Stalking me almost.

"Jayla, come on. I'll- - I'll do anything you want. I p-promise" I say.

She laughs lightly.

"Look at your apartment, sis. Look at the state of you. You're coming home at a bullshit timing, dressed like your parents aren't both doctors who worked their asses off to raise something other than the criminal that you are" she says and it's like a slap to the face.

Despite my situation, I feel myself getting angry.

Who does she think she is.

"You're a criminal too, Jay! Don't forget that your parents are some of the biggest mafia in the whole of the damn country!" I snap and I immediately regret it.

Still expressionless, she steps towards me, raises a gloved hand and uses the back of it to hit me across the face.

Hard.

"Don't you dare compare me... or my parents, matter of fact... to the likes of you" she says.

Her voice is dangerously low and I know that now I've really done it now.

I look away.

Big mistake.

She grabs me by the throat, lifting me up and putting the gun to my temple.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you, you sorry excuse for a woman!" She hisses.

Tears immediately spring to my eyes, my airways tight.

I claw at her arm, struggling against her grip.

"First of all, my parents aren't rapists. They got married, settled down and had me" she says, grip getting tighter, making me gasp.

I try to kick, but my legs are like jelly.

"Secondly. My parents didn't fail to raise me adequately. They loved and cared for me and they made me who I am today" she continues, eyes burning into mine as the corners of my vision go white, the blood rushing to my head.

My grip on her arm slackens as I feel myself starting to pass out.

My head swims and dots cover my view.

Tears stream down my face.

She smirks for a second and then drops me into the wooden floor with a heavy 'thud', leaving me gasping for air.

I cough and splutter, spitting blood out by force.

"Stay away from Luis. Stay away from Kofi. And if you ever disregard what I say... I'll burry you beside Mason and make sure that not even your parents attend your funeral. Understand?" She asks.

I nod quickly.

She kneels down next to me, making me instantly flinch and hit my head on the counter.

She laughs cynically.

"The only reason I'm not returning you to the clay, is because I care about your son.  Even if he doesn't get to see you anymore, he's a smart boy. He'll notice that mummy's gone. And Luis... he'd never forgive me, no matter what you've done" she says.

I shudder.

"Please... I - - I won't go near them. I promise" I cry.

Jayla gets up, finishing with her cigarette and then dropping the remains next to me.

"Someone will be here to clean this up any moment now and you'll get a new landlord next week" she says, referring to Mason.

I say nothing.

She opens my front door.

"Tell anyone and I'll kill both of you" she says.

"Don't bother with the police. They already know. They won't help you."

"Nice to see you again after all these years. You look... the same" she says.

And with that, she's gone.
