"Aaaand done!" Heidi declared as she finished what she was doing, her hands coming away from the computer with a dramatic flare. Angela rolled her eyes and sighed.
"We really need to have your brain rebooted." Heidi scoffed.
"Yeah. Reboot. Brain. Good luck with that." She downloaded the file on to Angela's tablet and smiled a cheesy smile.
"You're a genius, Heids."
"Ah, I learned from the best." She twirled around in her chair to face the computer again as Angela walked out, glancing a fond smile at Heidi.
Heidi sat for another five minutes, biting her thumb as she attempted to reconfigure the computer system when she heard the fast clicking of heels run into her shared office space. Turning around, she watched Angela pull an almost comedic cartoon skid into the room.
"You have to come with me."
"Why?"
"Trust me." Angela motioned to her to follow and Heidi complied, curious as to why Angela was in such a rush. Angela grabbed her arm and tugged her towards the observation deck. Heidi struggled to keep up with Angela's longer legs but she managed and swiped her ID card as she got to the deck.
On the otherside, Cam, Doctor Brennan, Clarke and Hodgins were standing with Booth and another guy who looked like Booth only younger and with a shaved head.
"There's two of them?!" Heidi couldn't get her eyes off the new guy. He was cute. In a rugged, less tamed way.
"I know right? Come on." Angela forced her to walk towards the group.
"Heidi, Angela! This is my little brother, Jarhead. "
"Jared."
"Ah, yes. Jared." Heidi rolled her eyes at Both and held her hand out to Jared.
"Heidi Hodgins. Pleasure to meet you."
Jared was slightly starstruck by the smaller girl standing in front of him. Her brown eyes twinkled mischievously, similar to how her brothers, Jack, eyes did. That was where the similarities stopped though. She was... gorgeous. Her blonde hair was darker at the roots, a sign of how her hair was dyed and was growing out but it worked for her. Hell, if she dyed her hair bright pink, she would work it.
"Jarhea- Jared. The pleasure is all mine." He shook her hand, shocked her her firm grasp.
"Don't listen to them. I don't, no matter what nickname they give me." Heidi felt the loss immediately when she pulled her hand away.
"Well, I'm used to it with Seeley and Camille." He shrugged.
"Ah, back to what we were talking about...." Booth said loudly, trying to regain his brothers attention. Jared winked at Heidi, causing her to blush. Angela nudged her and Heidi elbowed her back, slightly harder than necessary.
"Yes. Right. I need a beautiful date tonight and thought I might surprise my brother here with a visit, considering he seems to find himself surrounded by gorgeous women." Jared scanned across the group, his eyes lingering on Heidi.
"And I thought Cam wouldn't mind." Booth offered. Cam smiled and said something in agreement. Heidi felt her heart sink a little but didn't say anything.
"Ah, Heidi... I was wondering if you had managed to calibrate your computer to give us a better idea on how the murder was carried out?" When Heidi didn't respond, Brennan cleared her throat, bringing Heidi out of her head.
"Right, it's almost done. Angela has one of the possible outcomes," She motioned to the tablet. "But I've almost finished."
"Please inform me when you gave finished." Heidi took that as a dismissal. She smiled at her friends and at Jared, finding he was watching her. She winked at him and turned to leave, humming to herself as she went back to work.
***************
"So... Hi." Heidi turned around in her wheeley chair and smiled.
"Hi there Jarhead." Jared groaned.
"What happened to ignoring people when it came to saying that?" Heidi shrugged.
"It just kind of came out." She turned back to her computer to write another line of code.
"So what is the beautiful Miss Hodgins doing?" Jared asked, coming to sit on the edge of her desk.
"I'm writing a programme that will help to determine how a person was killed." Jared nodded. "We already have one that does it, but this one will factor in other factors that were never factored in before."
"I've never heard someone use the word 'factor' so many times in one sentence in three different ways." Jared chuckled. Heidi cleared her throat.
"Sorry, I just don't think before I think."
"Well that's good. Unfiltered. So that means if I asked you for a drink, as in a date kind of drink, you wouldn't think before you spoke?" He gave her a hopeful look.
"I'm afraid that requires more thought." She raised her eyebrows, spinning away from her computer to face him. Jared pouted. "But I already made up my mind so you won't have to wait. When will you pick me up?" She finished her sentence and watched as his pout turned into a classic charming Booth smile.
"7 tomorrow."
"I look forward to it. But now I need to go back to work." She motioned for her handsome distraction to leave her office.
"Begone with you!"
"Aye, Captain!" He left with a wink and Heidi turned back to her computer and smiled to herself as she began to typing again, her heart thrumming happily in her chest.
**********
"I need you to come with me."
"Where?" Heidi looked up at Jared as he walked again into her office, four hours later.
"So that dinner I was taking Cam to? Cam can't come. And I need the smartest, most beautiful woman to accompany me. Otherwise I'll be bored." Heidi laughed at him.
"Have you spoken to Temperance Brennan? She may be the one you're after."
"But she's not the one I want." He said as Heidi turned her chair around. He swung her around again and smiles charmingly, batting his eyes at her.
"Oh wow," She laughed. "I'm sure that only works with only females. But fine." Jared smiled and grabbed her hands and pulled her off of her chair, tucking her arm into his and pulled her out of her office. "Wait, where am I going?" She laughed as he pulled her.
"To get ready! We have to be at the White House by 8."
"What's the time?"
"7." Heidi's eyes bulged.
"I've been working nonstop for 6 hours? Why did no one stop me?" She groaned as she realised how stiff her neck was. "And my neck..." Jared released her arm and kept her moving forward.
As they walked, he put his hands on her neck and massaged her neck. It was a kind gesture and Heidi sighed in content.
"Better?"
"Much. Thank you." Jared removed his hands and both of them moved out of the Jeffersonian.
"Where do you stay?"
"I have a car, Jared."
"I'm going to pick you up, not take you home. Now." He added. Heidi rolled her eyes and gave him her address before dashing off to their separate cars, both thinking of the other person.
Heidi drove home with a small smile on her face. When she got home, she took the steps two at a time, no idea what she was going to wear. By the time she got inside her apartment, she had managed to undo her hair and pull off her shoes. She threw her shoes across the room as she rushed into her room, pulling off her shirt as she rushed to her wardrobe.
"Dress? Come on come one where's a dress?" She moved clothes out of the way, trying to find what she was looking for. "Ha!" She found what she was looking for and pulled out a dark green dress she had last worn to her brothers birthday. She threw it on her bed and peeled her pants off, almost falling over as she did so.
Dressing, doing her hair and make up all in the span of twenty minutes turned out to be the fastest time for her to be ready. There was a knock on her door that made Heidi jump. She ran for the door and opened it, smiling at who was standing there.
Jared Booth was stood in the doorway in his uniform, and smiled as Heidi opened the door.
His eyes scanned her from head to toe, taking her all in. She was gorgeous. Her hair was tied into a bun on top of her head, a few loose strands framing her face. She had simple make up on, enhancing her natural beauty.
"Hi."
"You're on time." Heidi smiled. "Are you ready to go?"
"I should ask you that." She giggled and grabbed her handbag that she had prepped by her front door. Walking out, she closed her door and looped her arm through Jared's.

Heidi was sat on a bench, watching the many people as they milled around the garden. Heidi smiled as she spotted Jared walking towards her.
"They seem happy with you."
"Ah, that's only because I have a talented, beautiful woman waiting for me to bring her a drink." Heidi smiled as she took the offered drink. Jared sat down next to her.
"So, having fun?" He asked. Heidi shrugged.
"It's okay. I've never really been to something like this. Jack and I never really did anything like this with our parents." She sipped the wine.
"Well, next time I'll take you to something more interesting." Heidi raised her eyebrow and looked at Jared.
"Next time?"
"Well I hope there's a next time." Jared raised his eyebrows as he leaned in and pressed his lips to hers gently, before pulling away and giving her a small smile.
"Hmmmmmmm..." She said before wrapping her hand around his and lifted herself to kiss him, smiling to herself.
