( WHAT IS IT! )

magic is something everyone in illeá is aware of, but it exists as a myth because of the fact that every piece of it has been moved to the underground. when supernatural beings and witches all discover their powers, they find their way into hiding. no one can quite explain the fear of being discovered other than the rumours that surround it. many believe they can be taken to prison for their powers or, worse, taken to the palace by the crown prince himself.

the underground is something that few can see. you may walk through it, but it appears to be a dead slum to those who don't seek its protection. in reality, it's a lively place that radiates magic and danger from every corner.

devon found out what he was at the age of fifteen and has done everything he can to control it since that day. he has the magic of any other witch, only he's extremely cautious when it comes to using it. he also has blackouts where he

devon has been secretive from a young age. he doesn't exactly have the cold, hard, and closed of demeanor that most would expect from such a secretive person, though. he spins his lies and secrets into a playful thing, making it seem much lighter than it might be to him. it might show that he has heavy weights on his shoulders, but dev does everything in his power to lighten them as best he can. because of these secrets, though, and the way that devon will be found disappearing at odd times, a lot of people have deemed him mysterious. however, that's a description that causes devon to laugh, unsurprisingly. anything serious seems to be taken as a joke with this man, merely because he can't help wanting to lighten the weighs on not only his own shoulders, but others as well.

with the secrets he keeps, devon tends to be cautious. being what he is ― something hated and feared by many ―, dev has to be cautious. there's no room for him to be reckless. he thinks everything through as much as he can. after all, one slip up and devon could be wasting his life away.

because of his powers and intelligence, devon has a bit of an ego. you can tell by the way that he walks that he's confident in himself. now, his arrogance isn't an overwhelming amount, but it's enough for anyone who meets him to notice it. he tends to let his arrogance and the way his runs his mouth get him into trouble, but he never picks a fight that he can't get out of. well, of course, that was until recently.

― the underground. everyone gets caught up in bad things at one point or another living in the underground and devon hates that witches feel forced to go and hide away in it. he often times will sneak out into the city, but he does his best not to risk going out past illeá's curfew.

[ backstory ]

devon was raised by a family that didn't know what to do with him. from the age of ten, devon would constantly disappear and awake back at his house with no recollection of what had happened. later on the news that day, people would find reports of missing objects in nearby houses or, sometimes, even people who'd been murdered. even chaining him down, as his mother found, didn't stop the boy from escaping his house. it wasn't until a witch from the underground visited him one night five years later, way past the curfew, that dev knew what he was. he wasn't an ordinary witch as his mother had suspected. he was quite literally a living embodiment of karma. he'd never be able to control his urges and the flashes of wrong doings of others, but the witch did inform him that he'd be able to remember it.

after that, devon left his home. he was fifteen at the time and has been living in illeá's underground ever since. he keeps who he is a secret, given that many seek revenge on him even though he's simply settling the scores. over the years, he found that he was able to remember the moments, even if he couldn't control it. he was able to learn how to put names to faces and what they'd done to deserve it.

― dev is currently being kept in the dungeons at the palace, locked up by chains that restrain and drain his magic. as to why and how that came to be, more will be shared later on.
