everyone used to be surprised that jules and keir made such good friends. where ky had been a bright and lively soul, jules had been quiet and cold, giving almost everyone and everything the cold shoulder. if anyone was a hard person to crack, it was julian rivers. he isn't necessarily rude to everyone, unless they go prying into his personal thoughts. he can easily maintain a light conversation, seeming cold throughout the entire thing.

julian isn't all cold exterior and seriousness, though. he has a passion for life that is shocking to most, but that also mean he's easily tipped over. there aren't many strong emotions that exist within jules, but there is one that heavily influences the rest. those closest to him claim that one thing to be love, that his love influences his burning anger, but julian has never seen it showcased. yes, he's more fierce over protecting what he loves, but that's it. he doesn't believe his love and anger go hand-in-hand, because, after everything, he isn't sure love is a prominent thing in him anymore.

jules is not a flirtatious person. yes, that's a weird thing to state, but an important one. his lack of flirtatious behaviour often means that when he is interested in someone, it's a trainwreck. it might surprise most, but keir used to be his 'wingman' on those sorts of things, hence the reason that julian hasn't attempted a relationship in a long time.

jules and keir had met when they were extremely young. the two had been a duo that was inseparable since the moment they met at keir's first ball. julian had been too short for his age at the time and keir had seen the poor boy struggling to get chocolates off of the table. after handing him the chocolates, the two had been off to other sections of the palace. the entire night had been spent with julian's parents searching for him, whilst ky's parents had assured them that it was normal for their son to take friends off and roam the palace.

keir had hired jules when he was still finishing high school to be coordinator of the guards and to live at the palace, and, for fifteen years, everything had been great between the pair. of course, that was until the incident that completely transformed ky. he went from being the warm hearted best friend that julian needed to be a mad stranger he spoke of nothing but games and betrayal. keir had found out about julian and reese and had demanded that julian never step foot near the palace again. though he was burning with rage, julian had agreed, leaving his best friend in the dust.

that hadn't been the last time the two had seen each other. keir had gone out into town days before the ball where he deemed himself insane to the population, where he found julian heading to one of his classes. after leaving his friend behind, julian had resumed high school classes in an attempt to hurry off to a university far away. his parents hadn't known he had returned from the palace yet, even.

keir had asked jules to return to the palace, to make himself a home there and to help the prince return to his former self. jules had agreed reluctantly, resuming his job as coordinator of the guards. but, ky quickly proved himself to be an impossible case that night at the ball, and julian was having to hide from the whispering rumours of the population.

currently, he uses the name milo thomas and runs an online jewlery company out of his small flat. his family believes him to be dead and he doesn't plan on showing them otherwise.
