Four
Despite settling in well at Grimmauld place, neither Calliope nor Fred could quite feel fully at comfortable, mainly because it was not possible for them to not feel on edge after the events of the previous year.
Small things helped Calliope feel more comfortable, like when she was lying awake at night unable to get to sleep because of the anxious feeling that haunted her and she listened to the slow steady breathing of Hermione and Ginny which eased her into unconsciousness. Or when she found herself alone in a room and sought out Fred to remind her that she had never really been alone.
Keeping her mind occupied was key. She kept herself busy, helping Mrs Weasley in the kitchen and being put to work cleaning the house.
Sirius had been unable to meet her eyes ever since she had told him what the whispers told her. This upset her, as she didn't ever want to make him uncomfortable, but he didn't seem to understand that Calliope believed they could prevent his death and that she was by no means telling him that it had to happen. But Sirius seemed to be under the impression that she had handed him a death sentence, despite Calliope frequently assuring Remus (who in turn told Sirius) that this was not the case.
Perhaps the thing that helped both Fred and Calliope remind themselves that they were safe was remaining in each other's company for pretty much all the time that they were awake. For Fred, simply seeing that Calliope no longer had a see-through, ghostlike form was enough to remind him that they were no longer in Voldemort's captivity. Calliope often found herself brushing her fingers on Fred's arm to ensure that she could still touch him and that her fingers would not pass straight through him, every time she did this, the electric shock feeling spread through them both, this was becoming rather familiar to them both, and acted as a reminder that they were safe.
The bond that had formed between the two was a thing of great speculation to many of the occupants of Grimmauld place.
Ginny was the first to become fully convinced that the two were dating, and it didn't take long for her to persuade Ron and Hermione to her viewpoint. Even George began to believe it after a while.
Their bond even came up during an Order of the Phoenix meeting. Dumbledore told the members that he was-for once-at a loss as to what had happened between them. He believed that it was a very rare form of magic and most likely had something to do with Calliope's banshee heritage.
Overhearing this discussion through the extendable ears confirmed what Calliope and Fred had speculated about from the beginning. It also comforted them to know that they weren't going totally crazy, that Dumbledore believed that something had formed between the two as well.
Fred seemed to follow Calliope everywhere, and it became very unusual to see one without the other.
"They must be dating," said Ginny upon seeing Calliope brush her hand on Fred's arm as they left the room.
"Fred hasn't said anything," George frowned.
"We have to remember that they went through a terribly traumatic event together last year, " Hermione argued, "they're just leaning on each other for support."
The Weasleys ignored her.
"Maybe he thinks you'll make fun of them?" Ron suggested.
"No way, Fred and I make fun of all of you, not each other. He knows that!" George crossed his arms.
"Does he?" Ginny raised her eyebrows.
"Yes," said George stubbornly, "yes he does."
