Forty-Three
"YOU DID WHAT?"
Calliope stood between Fred and George as they were berated by a beyond angry Molly Weasley. The twins had elected to fly straight to the Burrow and brave their mother's wrath before going anywhere else. George's argument was that the longer they let their mother stew, the more she would shout at them.
"We left school," said Fred again, as his mother didn't seem to grasp the concept the first time he told her.
"No, I heard you, I was giving you the opportunity to change what you said!" Molly shrieked.
"Why would he change what he said?" George asked, "we're not changing the fact that we left Hogwarts."
"Arthur reason with them!" Molly turned to her husband.
"Boys," Arthur sighed, "don't you think that you should finish your schooling, you've only got a few months left-"
"A few more months in the same school as that woman and we'd blow the castle up," said Fred.
Calliope looked at one twin to the other, feeling awkward at the family dispute she had been drawn into.
"Calliope my dear, don't you want to finish your NEWTs?" Molly tried a different tactic, instead, appealing to Calliope.
"Not with Umbridge at Hogwarts I don't," Calliope answered.
Molly let out a frustrated cry at the three stubborn teenagers in front of her. "You three don't understand the effects this will have on your futures!" Molly said, "you'll never be able to get a job-"
"Mum, we're opening a joke shop, we've got premices in Diagon Alley," said George.
"We don't need jobs, because we've already got them," Fred agreed. Both twins crossed their arms and stared at their parents.
"Well, when this all blows up in your faces-" started Molly.
"It's not going to blow up in our faces," George cut her off, "Mum, we know what we're doing!"
"You're eighteen years old!" Molly screeched, "Calliope is seventeen! You don't know what you're doing!"
"I'm sixteen actually," Calliope muttered.
"You're not even of age!" Molly's voice was high.
"Well, I'm seventeen in two days, so-"
"You dragged Calliope into your mess, and woe betide you, you will live to regret it!" Molly stared at her sons, breathing heavily.
"Well, I suppose we'll be leaving then," said George, "we'll come and get our stuff tomorrow."
Arthur looked between his wife and his sons, sighing slightly, "boys you can't leave like this, stay here tonight and then we can help you move tomorrow. Calliope can sleep in Ginny's room."
"Thank you, Mr Weasley, that would be great," Calliope said after a long silence.
"I'll show you to Ginny's room," Mr Weasley smiled at Calliope and gestured to the stairs. Calliope grabbed Fred's arm and followed Arthur up the stairs, George followed after them.
"You just need to give your mother some time to calm down," said Mr Weasley when they had climbed a few flights of stairs away from the kitchen, "she only gets angry because she cares about you."
"She has a funny way of showing it," grumbled George.
"Give her some time," Mr Weasley repeated, "I'll speak to her."
