Hiiro wakes up, Naruto dotes on him during the day, Tazuna announces the bridge will be done tomorrow and Kakashi says they will leave midday tomorrow. Naruto sleeps with Hiiro (not like that (yet)), Kakashi and Hiiro talk.

Hiiro and team seven are all on the bridge with Kakashi and Tazuna, and they hold the opening ceremony. Hiiro and Naruto say their goodbyes to tsunami and Inari. Naruto carries Hiiro part of the way back

The group camps for a night and Sasuke and sakura tease naruto about staying by hiiro but sakura takes it a little too far and naruto gets over protective, she apologises and hiiro eases the tension, they sleep

Reach the village and Naruto is forced to leave hiiro to be escorted to the hospital as his team briefs with Minato. Minato takes Naruto home straight away and Naruto talks to Kushina. Naruto admits he needs his friend with him, he can't bear to be away. Minato and he argue, then Kushina stands her ground and offers to let the boys live together in the house. Minato is apprehensive but agrees. Naruto is unsatisfied, mentioning the twins. Kushina also doesn't want him to live on his own yet. Naruto stands up to minato and leaves home to find Hiiro.

He searches first at the apartment and finds the worried twins. He takes them with him to the hospital and uses his authority as the hokage's son to let the nurses let him and the twins through, the twins are in awe. They reach Hiiro and the twins are horrified and relieved all at the same time. The twins fall asleep by Hiiro in bed. Naruto talks to him about the argument with Minato. Hiiro falls asleep.

Naruto notices Kushina walk into the room and they talk about the three. Naruto lets Kushina bring Minato into the room. Minato is still apprehensive about the boy's background and illegal activities. Naruto gets protective over Hiiro and Kushina and Minato realises how serious about them he is. Minato relents, he sets out conditions. Hiiro and the twins must come over for dinner, they all must live near their house, weekly check ins.

They all calm down and Naruto says he will talk to Hiiro about it when he wakes up. Minato says team seven have the next three days off and he and kushina leave. Naruto kisses Hiiro on the forehead and watches over the three in the chair before falling asleep.

Hiiro wakes up and is discharged from the hospital, there is nothing more they can do for his arm (or rather lack of lol). The three walk back to the trio's apartment. The twins go off shopping with money from naruto much to hiiro's dismay. Naruto sits Hiiro down and talks to him about moving in together in a nice apartment. Hiiro is shocked at the location, an upper class residential area near the clan compounds. He refuses blatantly at first but relents as Naruto admits he can't live without him. He brings up sending the twins to school and Hiiro is shocked. Naruto pleads to let him do this for him, he's never cared for someone so much, he will give him the world. Hiiro is a blushing mess and relents, agreeing to shut Naruto up.

Naruto makes the preparations right away and that night the three are brought to Naruto's house for dinner with his family. Naruto sits on Hiiro's right. They all have a lovely time (lol) and Naruto reveals to the twins the plans going forwards. The twins are very happy. They stay over at the hokage house for that night, all in Naruto's room. Hiiro admits to Naruto how useless he feels right now, depending on Naruto. Naruto reassures him.

Timeskip

Team seven meet at the bridge and get the note about the chunin exams in a month. They all say they are ready. They decide to meet at the yakiniku place for dinner, and a genin reunion is happening. Naruto goes and meets Minato, the two agree on an apartment and Naruto gets the keys, he currently has enough money in his own savings to outright buy a place. Minato apologises about the stuff he said about hiiro. Naruto appreciates his apology and the two reconcile a bit. Naruto almost asks him about his 'older brother' but stops himself.

Naruto goes and gets the three, packing the little stuff they have and immediately moving them into the new apartment, much to Hiiro's amusement. They all settle and Naruto tells them he has to go to a reunion dinner. Hiiro walks him there.

The two come across team eight in front of the restaurant and Kiba teases Naruto about Hiiro clinging to his arm. Naruto pulls Hiiro closer by the waist, defensive over him and Hiiro blushes. Kiba's mouth drops open, shocked. Hiiro kisses Naruto on the cheek and tells him to have fun, he'll wait for him at home then winks at him and waves at the others.

They walk in and meet team ten as well as sakura and sasuke there. Kiba complains about Naruto having a boyfriend, sakura fangirls about the two. Ino complains about Sakura and Sasuke being in a team and the two bicker. Sasuke backs up Sakura, making her blush and Ino annoyed.

The chunin exams are brought up and the genin form a pact to help each other however they can. Team seven start walking home together where they come across Konohamaru playing in a box with his friends. Sakura plays along but Konohamaru bumps into a sand nin. Naruto tells him to release the boy. Kankuro scoffs but Gaara appears and he drops konohamaru. They eye each other up but Sasuke puts a hand on Naruto's shoulder and the three walks off.

Naruto makes it home to Hiiro. The two have a moment and Naruto teases Hiiro about earlier. Hiiro huffs and turns the other way but Naruto just hugs him from behind and the two fall asleep.

Over breakfast, Hiiro says they should head to the library, having not been there in a while plus Hiiro has business with madam Aiya. Naruto escorts him and the twins head to the bookshop for the day.

Madam Aiya comments how Hiiro is now Ruto's more than how Ruto was Hiiro's when they first met. She laments about hiiro's arm, commenting about what a beauty he was going to grow up to be. Naruto gets protective over him but Hiiro smiles and shakes his head. He thanks madam aiya for all she's done so far for him and the twins but reveals he will be moving out of underground work. Naruto is shocked as well but Hiiro says he is sorry but he'll impose on naruto for now until he finds something better to support their family, making naruto blush. Madam Aiya sighs and reminisces about her own youth. She pats Hiiro's shoulder fondly and says he is welcome in their territory any time.

The two head to the archives and hang around for a bit. Hiiro mentions how tsunami taught him a bit about reading while Naruto was busy and the blonde pouts about not being a good teacher. Hiiro rolls his eyes. The two run into a mercenary who just about jumbos out of his skin when he sees naruto.

The two question him and he says he thought he saw deidara. They question him more and he throws him his bingo book and comments the page number before leaving. The two look at each other in shock, Naruto says that's exactly who he remembers although a bit older. The two have finally found who this older brother is, they now just need to piece together why Minato took him.

Hiiro comments about how they haven't had other children and the resemblance Naruto has to minato. Naruto mentions a bit about Minato's psychotic ideals and Hiiro suggests he was kidnapped. Naruto's heart sinks. There is nothing they can do about it now without raising suspicion. Naruto says he will look into it more after he becomes a chunin as he will have more clearance. They leave and pick up the twins from the bookstore on the way home.

Naruto brings up enrolling them in school and they all go to the civilian school. Naruto enlists them with both he and Hiiro as the primary careers. They all head home.

A month timeskip

They are all over at Minato and Kushina's place for dinner the night before the chunin exams start. The four head home. Next morning Hiiro walks Naruto to the exams and kisses him good luck in front of sasuke and sakura, the latter cheers for them. Naruto brushes her off and hugs Hiiro back.

They walk up the stairs, sakura being the first to point towards the fake entrance on the second floor. Sasuke shakes his head, signalling for her no not to mention it, and they head further up the building. Lee challenges sasuke to a duel and both sakura and naruto step in front of the uchiha. Lee goads sasuke about needing his teammates protection but sasuke ignores him and tells his team it's more important to save their strength.

They meet the rest of the rookie nine in the big room and they all exchange pleasantries, gaining glares from the rest of the room. Kabuto approaches them and Sakura gets the ick, looking towards her teammates. Kiba asks about Kabuto's info cards and they get a bit of information. The sound nin attacks Kabuto who dodges then gets injured.

Ibiki interrupts and his speech blah blah. They sit in the exam room. Naruto notices the difficulty of the test and thinks about a method to cheat, noticing the gennin around him all doing the same. He feels a chakra filter his senses and makes eye contact with sasuke, who has his sharingan activated. He understands the genjutsu sasuke has cast, making the test answers he sees from the genin in front of him and Naruto copies them down, noticing sakura doing the same. The first test ends with the final question. Hinata puts her hand up, forfeiting team eight much to Kiba's anger. Shino reassures her as they are escorted out. A number of teams do the same. Ibiki announces they all passed.

A woman comes flying into the room and announces the location of the second part of the exam. Ibiki scolds her. Team seven shunshin to the location, a new technique taught to them over the month before the start of the exams. Anko praises them in a creepy way, hugging sakura. She releases sakura who shivers in disgust as anko stares down a particular grass ninja.

Sasuke volunteers to go get the scroll while the other two have no protests. They meet Lee and his team again. Sasuke makes it back and they dismiss Lee's shenanigans again. They make it to their gate and the exam starts. They decide to head straight towards the tower as fast as they can and ambush a team after setting up a solid base. Naruto fans out his chakra and signals to his team to be alert. Sasuke points out someone lurking behind them.

Orochimaru reveals himself, all three recognise him and Naruto hurries to pull out a distress seal to alert minato and kushina. Orochimaru lunges at him but sasuke and sakura intercept and cover him just long enough for him to pour chakra into the seal frantically.

Minato appears just as Sakura is badly injured and sasuke pinned to a tree with a kunai. Oroshimaru and Minato fight, Minato having the upperhand. He grabs Orochimaru, flash stepping them away. Naruto hurriedly rushes to Sakura's side as Sasuke unpins himself from the tree. Naruto gets flashbacks to Hiiro's body on Tsunami's floor and Sasuke has to frantically balance calming naruto who begins hyperventilating and Sakura bleeding out rapidly. He panics and has a bit of a moment.

Kakashi appears from the scroll on his hip and assesses the situation before telling sasuke to calm naruto down as he starts administering basic aid to sakura. Saskue clears his mind and gets Naruto's attention, trying to calm him down. Sirens ring throughout the village and the forest of death. Kakashi stops Sakura's bleeding and picks her up, he tells sasuke to help naruto before using shunshin to get sakura proper medical care. Ino's team stumbles across the two as they are heading back to the village, asuma is with them. Naruto calms down enough to begin moving as Sasuke briefs Asuma on everything.

Asuma leaves them to go alert all the other jounin and the genins start towards the centre of the village. A sand ninja attacks them much to their confusion. Sasuke kills the nin as shikamaru traps him. They look around the village realising the sand is attempting an invasion. They join in on the fight, moving towards the academy ground, the designated safe grounds in case of village emergencies. Naruto sees Kushina darting past and he lets emotion take over him, leaving the other genin and following her.

Gaara unleashes the ichibi in a heavily residential area of the village and Kushina orders all shinobi in the area to evacuate for her to deal with the tailed beast. Shukaku begins rampaging, destroying massive areas of buildings and crushing civilians. Kushina unleashes her chains, restraining shukaku and naruto deflects in incoming kunai. She tells him to get to safety but he refuses, saying he will fight with her. She argues more but he yells mom and she focuses on resealing the tailed beast. She explains that they need to either wake Gaara up or kill him. She curses at the sand rapidly covering his body and the sand that escapes from her chains, lashing out at them. Naruto tells her to fling him into the sand near gaara's body. She says no but he tells her to trust him. He steps onto one of her chains and she launches him into the sand. Naruto coats his body with his chakra and uses its explosive nature to break apart the sand on gaara. He punches him straight in the jaw, waking him up.

The sand collapses and Kushina rushes to reinforce the seal, reworking it on the spot with her blood as Naruto fights Kankuro who, with Temari, has come to save their brother. Other sand nin surrounds them and retreats to stand right behind Kushina who is still working to suppress the ichibi.

Tenmari realises what Kushina is doing and tells Kankuro to stop, joining Naruto in standing against the sand nin. She says she will protect her brother.

A giant snake appears nearby and Temari blows it away with her fan. Naruto sees a bunch of snake summons wreaking the village and grits his teeth. There is nothing he can do for now except protect Kushina as she finishes a proper jinchuuriki seal. A flare flies into the sky and Temari admits it's the sign for them to retreat. Naruto says they won't release gaara but he offers to turn a blind eye if she and kankuro flee. She denies but Kankuro grabs her and knocks her out, nodding at Naruto before fleeing with the other sand nin.

Naruto turns to Kushina who finishes the seal, she places a second movement seal on gaara's forehead before picking him up with one of her chains. Kushina says she must find minato and naruto suddenly feels his heart sink. Kushina notices the look on his face. She grimaces and firmly grasps both his shoulders. She tells him to seal his emotions, the invasion isn't over yet. She orders him to go find his team. Naruto meets her gaze, he sees the look in her eyes and nods.

He runs off to the academy, spotting Sasuke by the entrance. Sasuke lets out a small sigh at seeing him safe and relatively unscathed. Naruto signals over to Sasuke who runs over. A jounin stationed by the entrance calls out to them, assigning them to do recon and locate the injured. The two set out, running along the rooftops that remain standing. They reach the uchiha compound, a few buildings are torn and reduced to rubble and there are a few injured civilians being tended to. Sasuke sees itachi and runs over to hug him quickly. Itachi returns the hug. Sasuke tells him that the academy has been turned into an emergency medical facility. Itachi nods and sasuke reluctantly leaves with naruto.

Naruto takes them both to his apartment, there is no one inside. His heart sinks but sasuke pulls him out of the house and tells him to take them to other places they would be. The two run off to the area where the twins work at the book shop. Sasuke's face has a grim look and naruto's heart hits his stomach. The area around them is a wreckage. He sees bodies crushed under rubble along the streets.

He spots a familiar jacket, one of his own. He rushed over and found Hiiro kneeling on the ground. His head is tilted down, eyes locked on something and he is unmoving. Naruto falls to his knees on the ground beside him, frantically checking him over. Relief trickles in a bit as Hiiro seems relatively unharmed. He hears sasuke take in a sharp breath of air and looks up at him then to where he is looking. Under a concrete slab, what used to be the wall of the old bookshop, are the upper halves of yuka and yuta. Their faces stuck in contortions of pain, blood and dirt. They were crushed from chest down under rubble, pinned in place. Their hands still gripped the others tightly. Naruto's heart sinks and he covers Hiiro's eyes even if it's too late. He turns hiiro's head from the sight and burying Hiiro's face into his shirt. He sees Sasuke pull a sheet out of the scroll their supplies for the second stage of the exam and cover the two with it.

END OF WARNING

Time Skip to the mass funeral three days later.

Minato gives a speech honouring the third hokage who gave his life to seal away orochimaru's arms. Naruto is holding Hiiro against his side, with no room between them. Kushina sits on Hiiro's other side, her arm over both boys. Hiiro is still in a catatonic state and Naruto is only half paying attention to Minato's speech. He rubs the back of Hiiro's neck comfortingly, guiding his chakra to hiiro's skin to provide him some warmth.

The Funeral ends, starting the month-long mourning period. Naruto, Hiiro and Kushina head back to their house. Naruto catches Sasuke's gaze, he gives him a small smile in acknowledgement but there is no happiness behind it. His eyes light up a little at the sight of Sakura standing beside the uchiha, albeit heavily bandaged.

The three make it back and Naruto says he is going to the apartment to get some stuff, planning to stay at his parents house with hiiro for a while. He sits Hiiro down on the couch beside Kushina who wraps an arm around the boy and moves to step away but Hiiro grabs his arm, falling off the couch as he does. Kushina and Naruto rush to help him backup from his spot on the floor leaning against Naruto's leg.

He begins to shake a bit and speaks for the first time since Naruto found him, "Please, you're all I have, don't go" Naruto's heart breaks a bit and he kneels in front of Hiiro, hugging him as Hiiro begins to heavily sob. He covers hiiro with his body as much as he can, tightening his hold. Hiiro grips Naruto's upper arm so tightly it hurts and bruises but Naruto doesn't pay it any mind. Hiiro's sobs echo through the room. Kushina helps Naruto get them off the ground and back on the couch. She grabs a blanket and wraps the both of them in it.

Naruto begins to cry as well as hiiro shakes in his arms. The door opens and Minato steps in. He glances at the boys, giving them a soft look before looking over at Kushina and walking over to hug her. They give the two some space.

Hiiro struggles to breathe between cries and he begins to mutter questions. Why did this happen? Why them? Why? Why? Why. he ends with 'it should have been me'. Naruto shakes his head, burying it into hiiro's hair. He consoles Hiiro, his chakra wraps around them both, warm and comforting. Hiiro lets go of Naruto's arm and holds his face. Naruto speaks to him, he tells Hiiro that he is real, he is here, he won't leave. Hiiro sobs again, his hand shaking. He pulls Naruto close, kissing him desperately. "Please, Please never leave." Naruto presses his head against Hiiro's and he tells him he won't ever leave. Both boys are tear stricken with swollen eyes. They sit in silence for a while, staring at each other, assuring themselves that the other is there. Hiiro breaks the silence with a choked laugh, "you look so ugly right now." Naruto smiles softly, "and you're as beautiful as you've always been." The two share a soft kiss.

Kushina comes in with two small wet towels and a plate of small snacks (yum, my mum does this when Im sad lol). She places them down on the table near the couch before kissing the tops of both boys heads and leaving. Naruto shifts to grab one of the towels, Hiiro still firmly in his grasp. He pats the cloth against Hiiro's face gently, Hiiro closing his eyes and leaning into the cool fabric.
