we drove through the desert for hours

night fell like a chain curtain

immediate and complete

this i saw then

came a fairground in the sky

with frosted rides in faraway clear

the stars played

they winked

diamond veined and

distant electric

laced

netted

studded

a milk-pearled blanket

crystal crochet

clustered charms      pinned

pointed beads

black and silver marcasites

set and settled

so many rosaries

in my desert sky
