the lonely
quick info!
this is like a mermaid/merman au. Izuku will be a giant phantom jellyfish which can grow to be 33 feet long, Katsuki will be a vampire squid, which usually grow to be about 1 foot long.
Not all information about the giant phantom jelly will be true as they are very elusive and scientists can't study them very well.
Also, when I refer to Izuku's arms, I mean that of the jellyfish half of his body. Phantom jellies have no stingers, just arms that slowly move caught pray towards their mouth.
I will also be changing certain facts, like life span, for the purpose of this book.
enjoy, or don't :]

IZUKU POV
I am lonely.
Undeniably so.
Those I float across have no interest in sharing joy, or leaving one another with memories.
No, they speak, leave, repeat.
I sometimes believe that they cannot see me despite my size.
I can fit all of them in the palm of my hand, and my body leaves a faint red pulse, yet they still seem not to acknowledge me.
I am a peaceful creature.
I have no weapons, like mother told me our distant relatives have.
I am not like the Lures.
Nor am I like the Eaters.
I have no light bright enough to draw, nor do I have the ability to eat forever.
I am a peaceful creature.
I look at my skin, my arms, my glowing body.
My skin is dark, even darker spots dusted across my flesh.
Mother called them my dots.
My arms so long they disappear beneath the endless vast void.
Mother said I would have the largest arms in the family. She was right.
The dull color the is produced from my body is one of the only colors I have seen.
Orange.
Mother said it was orange.
Mother said I would grow to be bigger and stronger than she ever could be.
She was right.
Mother was always right.
I am far too large, in fact.
The Hiders I happen to come across are so small they barely appear in my vision.
The Eight-armers that seek to leave their hiding rocks, flee upon when they see my giant form.
I am far too lonely.
-
Today was a new day.
At least, I thought it was.
I do not see the giant light as others do.
I only see darkness, for the waters keep me down.
I have tried before, to reach above the lines our species have set up, to reach to the light zone, where there are many colorful Hiders, and Eaters and so much more.
But the force kept me down.
It hurt my ears, made my body feel as though it was being pushed to something unnatural.
So, just as my ancestors, I stayed below the force.
I felt the nudge in my arms.
Something was caught.
I was tired.
Tired of this repeating of days.
But survival does not care for if you are tired.
As I slowly made my way downward towards the ends of my arms, I felt something off.
There was my prey, but it was spiky.
It was a ball of spikes.
"Hello there?"
My eyes widened as a head of ash blonde poked out the top of the spike ball.
Red eyes looked at me for only a moment. I could see the fear.
There was always fear.
I brought a hand to the spike ball.
It tucked in slightly, but I still weaved through my arms and plucked it from my own grasp.
It was so small, but still was big compared to how others creatures have looked against my hand.
It was half the size of my palm.
"Hello. What is your name?"
The spiky ball did not respond.
"I am sorry to have caught you. I promise I will not eat you. . ."
That is always the assumption that whatever is caught is what I will eat.
While I was planning on taking this spike ball as my food, I will make an exception.
I made my way to the only rocks upon which I can sit, what I call swimming slow others call too fast.
This rock was mine.
But I will share with the spike ball.
By the time I sat upon the stones, ash blonde appeared once more.
"Hello there." I warmly smiled.
To my surprise, the spike ball unfolded, and an emotion I had never seen faced me.
Awe.
No one had ever looked at me in awe.
The awed creature was like a Hider, but Hiders do not have spikes.
He had blonde stop his head, a lighter body than I, and no dots.
His body was red, connected like one of the Two-legger objects mother had shown me.
She said they used it to hide from water that falls from the sky.
He was beautiful.
Colors. He had colors.
He was sky water.
"Hello again. My name is Izuku. What is yours?" I brought my hands closer to my face.
He still looked at me in awe.
". . . I-I'm Katsuki. Holy shit! You're the giant trapper!"
He spoke fast. I spoke slow.
"Ne, the giant trapper? We are not trappers! The Trappers are much scarier than us. We are the Ghosts."
He looked at me strangely.
Those eyes were amazing.
The best color I had seen.
I think red will be my favorite.
"You call yourselves Ghosts? That's a stupid name!" He yelled, swinging his arms about.
"That is quite rude mister! What are you then, if you're name is so good?!" I couldn't help but pout.
Maybe I should eat him after all.
The tiny creature in my hand smuggly looked up, and smirked.
"We got our name from humans! We are the Vampires! I know, awesome right?"
He looked at me with such a confidence filled look, I was honestly surprised.
"What is a vampire?" I asked, swimming down my arms to find whatever had gotten caught now.
"What's a ghost huh!? Why don't you answer that!"
He angrily waved a hand at me.
It was adorable.
When I got to my arms, there was a Long-body stuck.
It was not like Katsuki and I.
It was a non-mer.
It had a long silver body, and pink fins decorating it's back.
I took it and quickly ate it.
I was hungry after all, though I knew I would have to eat quite a bit more.
"My mother told me that ghosts are the dead. When our loved ones pass, they become ghosts. I have been told we do indeed look like what ghosts do. . ."
I looked over to see Katsuki rather hesitant to answer me afterward.
Was he scared of me.
Not surprising.
"I-. . .um- W-well a vampire is s-something that drinks blood!" He said, he looked fake with confidence.
"Do you drink blood."
I swam downwards more, cradling Katsuki to my chest.
"Well, urm, no. . .but I've been told it's a human word and that we look like vampires!" He smirked.
"My my~ you are strange." A giggle left my mouth.
His face turned red.
"So whaddya gonna do with me now that you have me you jumbo freak?"
"I don't know. Perhaps I'll keep you as company until you leave. . .or I'll just eat you if you keep acting so rude."
He hmphed at me.
The water began to warm, and I knew we were close to our destination.
"Katsuki, I would like you to meet Mr. Aizawa."
I presented him the man's cave. He was rarely one to talk, but I had befriended him recently.
He was an Eight-armer, with black scale like things along his arms.
"Kid, what have I told you about the Mr. part?"
"Apologies."
I let the long-haired man crawl into my hand.
He was larger than Katsuki, but not by much.
"You make a new friend kid?" He looked Katsuki up and down as if studying him.
"I don't know. He's rather rude. I was going to eat him first, but he was something new, and I like new things."
A recognition seemed to pop into Aizawa's head.
"A Vampire? The hell are you doing here? Don't you guys stay away from everyone?"
"Well we do, but I got bored just swimming around. So I just left, and then got caught in this fucking bitches arms!"
He said it like it was my fault.
"Hey! Don't speak about him like that!" Aizawa grabbed Katsuki's arm, giving him a death glare.
"It is okay Aizawa-san. I am used to it. . ." I could see sadness on Aizawa's face as I trailed off.
"Used to it?"
"I am not well liked. I am too large for most creatures not to fear me. I try to speak to those around me, but they either flee in terror or insult me.
"I never get mad at them. . ."
Katsuki was quiet after that.
I heard the very distant sound of a Long-back's sad melody.
"I am sorry Aizawa-san. I must leave. The Long-backs move quickly."
The man waved me off, but I never missed the light smile on his face.
I held Katsuki to my chest tightly as I slowly ascended upwards towards my cave.
"Woah woah woah! What did the Long-backs have to do with you going back?"
"They often mistake my kind for their Collosal prey since most of them are not mers. It is how my mother died, so I am always wary. . ."
The silence and the void.
I've grown so used to Katsuki's chatter, it was a shock to be left with something I'd lived my whole life with.
". . .I. . . I-I'm sorry. . .I bet she was lovely. . ."
"She was. She loved me, and everyone in our family. She would have loved you too." I couldn't help the smile that forced it's way onto my lips.
Though it was soured when I noticed a Long-back not too far away.
I was close to my cave, so I hurried the rest of the way in.
There I sat, with Katsuki in my hands.
"Tell me more about you. I don't exactly wanna be out there right now so, might as well make use of the time."
I thought for a moment. I am not that interesting.
"I am Izuku Midoriya. I am a Ghost, who loves to make friends. I am very big, and enjoy holding tiny things, like you!"
I brought him closer to my face.
He was pale against my darker skin, but I didn't hate it. It made him stand out. I think he deserves to stand out, at least, where it is safe to do so.
"Hah! That's it?!" He looked rather exasperated.
"I should have told you I am not that interesting, kekeke! There is not much to do down here!" I waved my hands outward, forgetting the small Vampire that sat on my finger.
He held on for dear life as I continued to gesture towards my cave.
"Okay okay I get it! Stop moving already!"
He swam off my hand and towards my shoulder, where he rested gently and lay down.
"If it's so boring down here then leave, idiot!"
"I cannot leave. The great force holds me here. . ."
"The great what!?"
So I recounted the story of when I tried to escape my void prison, how after swimming up for a while began to hurt.
"Then you're going too fast. My parents told me that there's this pressure thing that keeps us where we are. If you change it too quickly, then it hurts, but if you go slow you get used to it, you can keep going up.
"Obviously not by too much but it's still up."
He shrugged at me.
This little Vampire is so smart.
"Katsuki? Would you like to go up with me? I wish to see a glimpse of the sky light, just once, even a moment, even the tiniest bit."
I looked at him as he swam his way towards my face.
"Izuku Midoriya, Ghost of the depth, lover of friends and small things, hell to the yes I want to go with you!"
My smile joined my surprise.
"Katsuki, Vampire of wherever you came from, taker of pride in yourself, I would love nothing more."
