Chapter 54: Sweet love.
Outside of the school gates, where cameras were glued to the front and observed, Wani was on the sidewalk drinking. A small bottle of soda sat next to him and not once was the cloak removed when he arrived at the school. The Crock dared not to take it off, lest passing citizens would begin to point fingers in his direction and scream.
He watched as the sun barely kissed the horizon over the tall trees that surrounded the school. He knew from there that the day was coming to an end and was hoping Yukimura would come out soon, but alas, the only thing that he heard was someone sighing. "Kyoshi, right?" Over his shoulder, the Crock peeked and saw the Teacher clad in black behind the closed gate.
"Yeah... The hell do you want?" Wani wasn't in the mood to deal with heroes, let alone speak with one but he had no choice since it was Haru's Teacher.
"Someone wants to see you. Recovery Girl, she's in the nurse's office... I'm certain she's going to visit Hatsume tonight too, so I wouldn't keep her waiting. If you do or try anything stupid then I'll make sure you'll get put behi-" Abrupt movement from Wani and an outburst was enough to overrun Shota. The heavy clang when one hand slammed against the bars of the gate, resonated and his strength almost made a noticeable dent into the metal.
"Why does that old woman want to see me...? We don't know each other, so what gives her the idea to ask for me?" A low bellow resonated from his throat, like a growl from a beast. He didn't care for conversation nor connection to heroes, in fact, he wanted nothing to do with them but it seems as though fate had other plans.
"She knows you, apparently. Just go see her, it's not like it'll hurt you any," Even though Aizawa hated the thought of sending the destructive Crock into the school and to a defenseless old woman, it was best to let them meet. I'll keep an eye on him. The last thing this school really needs is a villain loose inside the vicinity. His thoughts, cautious and annoyed, echoed as he watched the gate open for the Crock and heard a bell ring.
~~~Time skip~~~
Moments later he found himself standing in front of the nurse's office, clearly irritated by the fact that someone among the heroes wanted to meet him. He passed up Haru along the way and took a mental note of how she looked, it relieved him to see those smiles again. However, seeing Shinso with her only seemed to rile up his nerves. I gotta get that kid out of my way, she needs to pick her own path! Not have someone shove their own two cents into her brain! Anger laced his thoughts, which was enough to cause a grumble from his throat.
The Teacher clad in black stood behind him, with glares that could kill if they were sharp enough. "In here," He watched Kyoshi move with haste when the door flew open, his quick antics made his quirk activate almost instinctively and was half tempted to pull him backward.
There the Crock stood in the room, with Shota's gaze peeking around the door frame to keep a good eye on him. Those yellow, piercing slits, intensely bore into the backside of Recover Girl. However, with the bun, and the coat, something about her felt familiar to him so he took a few steps forward and parted his lips to speak.
"Kyoshi, it's been a long time hasn't it?" The moment she turned with her kind smile and her hands clasped behind her, he had frozen in his spot. "Please-- sit, there's much to talk about," For a long while now she wanted so badly, to speak with him because deep down her heart was concerned for the Crock ever since he was in school long ago.
Very cautiously did his feet move toward a chair nearby, not once did his glare falter as he sat down. Onto his knees, his elbows rested, his head had lowered to sharpen his piercing glare, and pondered on the old woman who looked oddly familiar. "Do you recognize me, dearie?" The Recovery Girl was closely observed when she pulled an extra chair over, so she could sit across from him and questioned the intimidating, tall Crock, who remained silent.
All she received was a low grumble as a warning, but all she did was smile. It was as though she knew him enough to not take his antics seriously, for all she did was giggle lightly and place her hands on her lap. "I remember, several years ago... When you were in Middle School, you would always come to me after getting into fights. I see you're as reckless as always," Unfazed by his behavior, her words and that kind smile she always has on, made the brute lose his breath for a moment.
"W-- What? Who the hell... Wait, are you the Nurse from my Middle School?" Taken aback, his astonished eyes watched her head nod and his ears picked up her quiet hum of confirmation.
"Yes. You never told me why you got into fights... The last time I saw you, was when I tried to get your attention while you were rushing down the hallway. You never attended school after that, what happened, dear? You can tell me," Almost like a worried mother, her smile fell into a concerned frown and she waited. He spent a lot of time with her during his Middle School years, mostly because of his constant wounds bringing him in for a visit.
Upright, his arms folded against his chest when he averted his attention, he didn't want to speak of his past to someone he barely knew. However, he had no idea how much she knew of him. "Why don't you start off by tellin' me how you know me?" Not once did the Crock's glare lessen after he brought his attention back to her. Most normal people, if they were in the old woman's position, would've bolted from their seats and panicked.
"Heheheh, of course. I had a fragment of doubt that you'd remember me. You always came to me spilling out details of the fights you got yourself into and stories you kept telling me, about how often you won. But, you never once told me how the fights started... My boy, what was the reason for leaving the school? You could've become a strong, pro hero by now and set a much friendlier image of yourself to the people," Her once kind smile fell into a frown the moment she chose to pick up on a serious topic, one that she had wanted an answer to for a long time.
"The hel-- Damn... So, you were actually worried about me? I'm shocked, most students and Teachers weren't," With that, he leaned back in his seat to gaze up at the ceiling, never in his school life had he considered the possibility of the Nurse being concerned about him. "Punks always wanted a piece of me. Kids kept starting fights every time I'd look their way, they didn't seem to get that I was just looking to see what they were doing..." For a moment he paused as he pondered the past fights during his teenage life.
Recovery Girl didn't move an inch and kept completely still, she didn't want to do anything that might show a lack of interest. "But this one day..." As he trailed off he contemplated how to explain why he left. Time passed, and with detail, he told the old woman about his friend in Middle School and how he accidentally killed him with his own quirk. The misjudgment, the heroes who all claimed him a murderer of several people on school grounds and of other lower ranked heroes who tried to take him down; even the part where he knew he was set up by Serpentine. It all spilled, it was as if the Nurse across from him was a counselor.
"I see... So you ran away after you killed the heroes that attacked you. You accidentally killed your friend... And have been on the run since that day. Now there's no reason for vengeance anymore. Since Serpentine's gone, what will you do now? My boy... You have a good heart, but that good heart was pushed and shoved away by the people who kept judging you. Please, don't let people put words into your mouth, claiming you to be this Villain just because you were defending yourself... Perhaps you could try confronting them, or ask for help among the heroes and tell them your situation," Her words made his heart throb with emotion and despite the natural smirk on his Crock lips, she could still see how they affected him.
His eyes now downcast in thought, Wani leaned over his knees to hold his head in his palms. Those dark green elbows kept his arms propped to not let his head drop, he didn't know what to say to that and only a tense silence befell the two. "I don't know... Shit always happens and makes me look bad in front of everyone, why would anyone believe a thing I'd say?" For a moment, after he questioned her, he recalled that memory of him trying to return a man's wallet and chasing after him only to be attacked by the police and heroes.
A gentle hand, careful, and warm, was felt on his forearm and the touch made his head perk up just slightly to see her reassuring smile. "We are heroes, Kyoshi. We're not demons... You need to help them understand. Heroes are always trying to find a reason to not kill a villain, cause if there are small sparks of possibilities to change a villain, then they won't hesitate to take it. Some will jump into action but others will try to understand or find a reason behind a villain's actions. Principle Nezu's not a soulless individual either, he'd be willing to help even a villain if they had the heart to change and be a better person," Recovery Girl felt a bit happy, no, she felt overjoyed by the fact that he was trusting her.
Her explanation was enough to instill astonishment, for his widened yellow slits bore into her closed, delighted ones, and noticed how her reassuring smile never faltered. "Do you really believe, people would just accept that they were wrong after all this time, about me? Tch-... I'd give anything if they'd just get off my back. I hate heroes, them-- and their tight-ass spandex! If they need to understand how I'm the victim in all this mess then they're more stupid than I thought," From the chair, he stood and turned on his heel to make his way to the door, however... The old woman's next words made him freeze in place.
"No one is perfect, dear. Not everyone can understand someone and some lack the patience to do so. If you would like-- I can contact the Principal and you two could meet. He is a very good person, I have many doubts that he'd toss you into a pit just because of the peoples' misjudgment," Once again, nothing but silence filled their ears after she spoke.
Recovery Girl had stood from her chair to face him on his way toward the opened door, which Aizawa stood in, and saw how his clawed hands clenched into fists. "Fine... Do whatever the hell you want. I'll meet this guy," Through gritted teeth, he answered, albeit snarled with anger at the thought of the nurse's offer. "I'm telling you... Nothing's going to change what people think of me, I know-- I tried for a long time!" With that, the second he left the room, a harsh slam from the door echoed and made some things in the Nurse's office jiggle upon the force.
All the old woman did was giggle at his antics, for she knew that he trusted her and wanted nothing more than to be a hero himself. Deep in her heart, she knew, that he was a kind soul beneath that wronged and enraged mask which he wore every day. "That boy has such a strong front," Again, her kind smile returned before her small feet made their way to the nearby window. Her eyes watched the sunset fall further past the many surrounding trees, as thoughts of the Crock continued to weigh on her mind.
~~~Uviel~~~
"Har-Har, Eijiro... T- Thanks for helping me earlier," As multiple pairs of feet patted across the floor, Saito's words, nervous and appreciative, echoed.
"Hey, any time! We all have each others' backs! Even though... The thing I went through recently... Anyway-- I'm not going to sit around and let my best friend sulk in the dark, either! Kirishima, Midoriya, Ochaco, Mina, and everyone else were all here for you when you weren't on your feet. Go meet your soon-to-be-daddy and hang out for a while, I'm gonna meet up with Hitoshi! And Uvie..." After a pause, the brunette ran around to get in front of the lighter redhead so she could gain her full attention.
Blind hues locked with sapphire ones briefly, the subtly she sensed told that the cybergirl blinked, and was enough to say that she was astonished. "If there's anything you need... Call me. Besides, I got spare keys to your place if you don't do it on occasion.~" It's been a little while since she felt like her old self again and the gasp she heard from Uviel told her that she was surprised, especially since the brunette dangled the keys in the air.
"How-- Ah, that's right I forgot. I gave you the spare keys long before we entered U.A. No wonder you were able to suddenly appear in my house and jump-scare me... Why do you like to do that anyway?" With a pout on her lips, Uviel couldn't help but groan and faintly blush at the mention of her poor memory.
"Cause, it's fun to mess with you.~" A mischievous grin curled when her eyes closed, she couldn't stop the giggles that came out and started to walk backward when she felt Saito's feet move again.
A pair of sapphire hues rolled and her upper black lips smiled at her words, however, the handsome scent next to her became more noticeable the moment he stepped closer. Heat rose to her cheeks after her eyes lit up with astonishment, Kiri shyly coiled his fingers around hers and he too blushed heavily at the contact. "I'll make sure she gets home safely. Where's Hitoshi?" Despite his red cheeks, Eijiro curiously blinked at the blind girl, with a nervous grin that he tried hard to hide.
The darker redhead's heart pounded wildly against his rib cage, their proximity only made his body tense up more and his mind become rampant with thoughts. I hope she doesn't mind too much! I wanted to hold her hand-- is this okay? Would it be okay if I pulled her closer to me? Ah, right, I nearly forgot... She shared her past with me and a few others. Maybe-- in return, she'd hear mine out? Reluctant at the end, his thoughts about the last question lingered as he walked alongside his girl.
"He's just ahead, we're catching up haha! I'll stick with you guys until we do, I don't wanna end up running into... Shigaraki again," Her beaming smile, cheerful and full of energy, nervously fell at the thought of that villain possibly creeping up on her again.
"Oh-- no kidding, dude, he's right there," With her finger now pointed behind her snake friend, a couple of laughs from her reached her ears.
"Well, look at that, hahaha! I'll see you later then, give me a call later tonight if you want!" The brunette's hand lifted to wave her goodbye, as she ran towards Hitoshi, and her backside became more distant the more she ran.
I'm so glad she's feeling better. Ah... His hand, it's so warm. Her thoughts soon were about Kirishima, when she paid more attention to their intertwined fingers and the warmth he radiated. Strong too. She could feel her face heating up more and more, however, her next thoughts made her entire body turn red. H- He smells good, I wonder what body spray or cologne he uses... Maybe... I could buy him something. A present? Or, no-- I could bake him something sweet! I hope he likes Brownies or Cookies. Despite her swarmed thoughts it took her a moment to calm down, however, more thoughts occurred. Wait-- I told him about my past before... I wonder, would he be willing to... Damn, I hope I don't seem self-centered! Yup, I'm totally self-centered here. I must be, maybe that's why he hasn't spoken of his yet! Maybe he's having second thoughts about our relationship! What am I supposed to- before she could continue her panicked monologue, Eijiro's concerned voice snapped her out of it and made those breathtaking hues meet his own.
"Uviel, what's wrong? Everything okay?" His fingers, clenched slightly tighter around hers after he leaned over a bit to see those sapphire eyes. I hope she's okay... Did I do something wrong? Does she not like me holding her hand? His mind became full of worry over his actions, and he was nearly tempted to let go.
"I- It's n- nothing! I was... Just thinking, that you... Haven't really told me about your past. Was your hair always that red?" Saito could hear her heart racing in her ears, it made it difficult to stay focused since her own panicked thoughts continued to run rampant.
"No, haha! Actually..." Once he trailed off, he turned his red eyes to his feet and watched them move as he walked alongside her. "I dyed it. It was originally black and straight, But I wanted to look similar to Red Riot! He was so cool!" Stars in his eyes twinkled with excitement when he exclaimed, those clenched fists that let go of her hand pumped into the air all the while.
"Haha, I have to admit, he does sound cool. I mean, the name itself sounds badass, so he has to be right?" The cute giggles that she tried so hard to hide, made the boy's cheeks heat up and a smile curl on his lips. "You know... Some say that-- when you look up to someone so much, it shows a lot of self-reflection. I- I mean--! What I meant to say was, that people who look up to s- someone are sometimes heavily inspired, and makes them want to change what they have going on in their lifestyle! S- Something that they're not happy with," Frantic, and embarrassed, she felt as if she screwed up and lifted her hands to wave them from side to side. "N- Not that has anything to do with you or anything! That's just something... That I heard before," Quickly with her hands lowered, her eyes nervously and awkwardly averted from his red hues to avoid seeing his awestruck expression.
"Do you look up to anyone, besides Edgeshot? Was there anyone that inspired you enough to want to change yourself to be like them?" This time he leaned over with his toothy grin and watched her face turn into a tomato-red hue, he loved how adorable she was every time he'd get that close.
"Somewhat-- yeah... Actually-- there were two, no... Three people. Haru gave me the push and shove I needed to break out of my shell and after that, I found something that I never thought would give me the strength to stand up on my own. First, as I mentioned, it was Har-Har... Then, it was you... You're always so... Positive and you know, I used to hate how you said I was manly but now-- I know that the word manly had other meanings behind it, which I think I stated before a while back... Y- You're really... Cool. S- Super cool and-- manly to m- me," Her last breaths stuttered nervously as she used her hand to try and cover up the red mess tainting her face. Not once did she look his way, she didn't care to show how hot and crimson her cheeks became, but when the cybergirl looked at him...
The darker redhead boy remained in awe, mouth agape to what she admitted to, and he didn't even realize his own tomato-colored face. To hear her say that and noticing her embarrassment, not only spiked his own but also made him recall her birthday when she confessed. His soon gaping lips turned into a stupid grin when he chuckled, he couldn't help but look away from her sapphire hues after she peeked at him.
It feels so great to hear her say that! I feel so fresh and excited! It makes me feel so pumped to push harder and get stronger! Although, through his thoughts, one particular question lingered, it made him blink and move his attention back to her. "Hahahaha, thanks! It makes me happy to hear you say that! Unbelievably happy! Ah-- yes! By the way!" Energy radiated from his form like a bright sun when he laughed joyously. Though, when his beaming face changed to a more curious one, his smile fell. "Who was the third one?" His question only seemed to snap her out of her hidden thoughts, for she blinked and her tomato-red features returned to normal.
"M- Midoriya Izuku... What he said during the sports festival, his fight with Todoroki, moved me, remember? I respect him for that," For a moment, a pause ensued after she pondered on Ochaco's well-being. The brunette she spoke to over texts while Haru was gone, worried her and for a second her heart screamed to check up on the girl. However, there was something she wanted to ask him, something regarding his past that she hoped he'd talk to her about. "Is there a-- Deeper reason, why you looked up to Red Riot? He's really cool, yeah, but... His heroism and the things he did, are only a piece of it right? What... Was it like for you before you became who you are now?" To her, it felt like she was about to step on a ledge. What if I overstep the line or somehow scare him away?! Did I mess up?! Damn, I hope he's okay with me asking that! Panicking once more, her heart raced at the thought and she mentally prayed that her boyfriend wouldn't shy away from it.
"A- Actually... You see-- Red Riot, was an inspiration to me because he had a similar quirk to me and was still able to rush into battle and save people. I was upset that my quirk wasn't flashy or cool like everyone else, so I was sort of..." For a moment, he trailed off to think of how he could describe it until Uviel spoke up.
"Insecure?" Her blue hues watched as nervousness filled his eyes, which was proof that she hit a touchy subject.
"Yeah... Back then I sulked a lot and was always depressed, but after I saw a recording of my favorite hero talking about how he was afraid but still jumped into action... I guess I was moved, you know? He said that he feared seeing someone's death more than the danger of the battles and certain death. And-- that anyone who wasn't afraid of dying were idiots." From there when he spoke, moments passed as he told her about the rest of the speech Red Riot made on the recording and how much he looked up to him as a hero and a man.
After he finished explaining, his red eyes connected to blue hues he hadn't realized, were emotional and awestruck. "Ah- sorry! I was just... Um-- shocked. He sounds really amazing... It's no wonder you look up to him and want to be like him. I'll have to say though..." With a pause, she trailed and gave him such a warm smile that he thought he'd melt at seeing. His cheeks heavily flushed at her kind and sweet grin, her next words... "You're almost like a spitting image of him so far! You can d- do it, I believe in you and I'm certain Red Riot's just as happy to see that he inspired such a manly guy like y- you," Her words almost made him cry if his manliness hadn't taken control of the tears that threatened to fall.
"U- Uviel," Watery red eyes bore into those loving sapphire ones, he felt as if he could melt down and cry a river in front of her. However, in a tight hug, when he embraced her, for the first time ever he let silent tears fall into the crook of her neck and allowed his relieved smile to form. "Thanks, a lot. You don't know how much that means to me," He did his best to hide the emotional waver in his voice. Her small, warm hands, gradually coiled around his backside to pat him and the sensation made him lift his head to look at her sweetly. "I'm so happy to have you by my side.~" Quickly, before she could see the happy tears on his cheeks, he leaned in and kissed her lips with the reddest face ever.
His action made the cybergirl gasp and stare into his appreciative, loving red eyes for the longest time. "Uviel... I l- love you so much!" It's been a while since he said something relating to that word, he couldn't help but exclaim and let the world around him know.
"I- I love you t- too!" Through quiet whispers, she answered. Her hands cupped her own cheeks to hide her tomato-red face and the goofy smile she didn't want him to notice, but he saw it before she could conceal it.
"Come on, your place is not that far now! Let's go meet up with your idol hero!" The boy was beaming with so much energy right now, he felt like he could lift the whole world at the moment. The excitement, his love for her only escalated and moved him like a tornado through the sky; he felt so good right now.
He said he loves me! He said he loves me! I said it too, but why is my face so hot?! Why?! Just because of what I said, my face turns red?! AAAAH! Damn it, my body enjoys betraying me, doesn't it?! Her panicked and embarrassed thoughts echoed, yet, she still managed to peek at him and bolt for the boy who jogged backward facing her. "O- Okay!" Her soft voice resonated through his ears like a beautiful chime in the wind, as she caught up to him and nervously grasped his hand. I love him... So much! Her final thoughts, full of love, made her smile stay glued.
