Chapter 24: Tectonic!

A/N: Hey guys! Just letting you know before you dive in-- I decided on a place for Uvil in the listed offers Aizawa shows later, I did my best to make it even so other students kept their amount of offers. xD

I didn't want to screw anything up lol! XD

~~~~~~~
A pair of blue hues gradually opened to see a ceiling above and trying to adjust from her long night of supposed slumber. What happened...? I just...passed out in front of Principal Nezu, why? her thoughts swarmed like bees as her gaze finally got out of its blurry state. With the feel of soft sheets underneath her, something poofy beneath her head, and a cozy blanket of warm fluff over her frame, the girl's hands trailed alongside it to try and figure out where she was.
That was, until, her eyes widened with recognition; it was her bed. Quickly she sat up and looked around, frantically viewing her surroundings in hopes of some reason for being there. Nothing seemed to though, there was but one person in her room and they were sipping at some tea in one of her beanbags that she could've sworn she tossed out a long time ago.
White fur, small, paws, she knew from there that it was Nezu. "P -Principal?!" Purely embarrassed, the girl covered herself up more with the blanket, despite wearing her uniform to bed.
"Yes, it is I! I brought you here so you could sleep soundly and so I could watch over you. I shall take it upon myself to keep an eye on you after school hours, seeing as I am free at those times. This will also allow me a better observation of your well-being and to watch for any signs or moments when you are being taken control of," his words only made the redhead's mouth gape open.
"So-- Can I go eat?" her question only made things more awkward as silence filled the air and when a paw raised, she couldn't help but blink.
"Why of course but be swift! We have ten minutes until your class begins, you wouldn't want to be late for your first Hero Name Choosing, would you?" At that moment, any kind of creepy vibe she might've felt when she saw him sitting there in her room, was quickly replaced. Her eyes lit up with shock before bolting out of her bed and straight for her kitchen down the hall.
Nezu's beady eyes watched as she did so, he didn't seem fazed at all by her antics and quickly followed after.
My first Hero Naming! He's going to let me pick a name?! I thought, after that stunt during the festival, he wouldn't let me! Excitement filled her mind, like a small child who was about to go to the candy store. Though with eagerness, a tiny tinge of fear for possibly being late was visible on her face.
Nezu was right behind her., Uviel didn't even pay attention as she stood in front of the toaster. A piece of toast was all she had time for and as soon as it popped out, it was a grab-and-run for her. Her bag was picked up on her way out after she saw it dangling on the front door's knob.
Out, she ran, sprinting as fast as her cybernetic feet could carry, and was unaware of Nezu's whereabouts. All the girl knew was that she needed to reach the school before the first bell, there was no time to look behind her to see if the Principal was keeping up. Of course, her little hand-held gaming device was in her bag, she nearly forgot about it and tried to be careful handling it during her trek.
It took some time, roughly eight minutes running through the rainfall outside when she finally reached the school. Her wet shoes squeaking against the floors as she raced down the halls, her uniform drenched, the girl mentally prayed that no one would pay her soaked frame any mind.
Saito wasn't aware that the Principal had already made it to school before her, all she knew was that he was behind her. However, being the Principal, he had ways of reaching the school rather quickly.
Suddenly, with a rush of the homeroom door sliding open, the cybergirl stood panting and kept her hand in place; she hadn't run like that in a long time...save, for the obstacle race at the festival. Her gasping breaths and the slam of the door made everyone's heads raise to see her, even Aizawa who quirked a brow at her antics.
"S- Sorry! Um... Am I late?" Her soft and quiet voice reached the teacher's ears, just to see his head shake. A sigh escaped her lips, relieved to know that she wasn't, and went to sit at her desk.
It looked like her teacher had just arrived, too, seeing his position showed that he hadn't started class yet and his lack of bandages was enough to say that he recovered. "Ribbit-- Mr. Aizawa, your bandages are gone; I'm glad," Asui spoke up with a finger to her chin, watching as their teacher messed with his black locks.
"The old lady went overboard with her treatment. More importantly, we're having a special hero informatics class today," Aizawa answered them with boredom lacing his voice, if anything, the rainfall outside only made the morning feel sluggish.
Everyone seemed to be as surprised as Uviel, her jaw was slightly agape at the news. She was tempted to pull out her gaming device at first but decided against it, the minute her teacher spoke and felt his eyes on her for a brief moment. Why doesn't anyone know that it's name-choosing day? Wait-- did the Principal seriously give away a spoiler? A sweatdrop could be felt trickling down her head at the thought, that was until Aizawa continued.
"Code names," their teacher began after a moment's pause. "You'll be coming up with hero names." Suddenly, after his statement, everyone cheered about the class finally doing something exciting. Except for Uviel, she remained in her seat even when Aiza flashed his quirk to make them shut up and it nearly made a giggle or two slip from her.
"This is related to the pro hero draft picks I mentioned the other day. The drafts begin in earnest in the second and third years, after the students have gained experience and can become immediate assets to the pros. In other words, for them to extend offers to the first years like you show that they are interested in your future potential. These offers are often canceled if that interest dies down by graduation," During his speech, Saito's eyes glanced over to Mineta who lightly pounded on his desk in frustration and mumbled something she couldn't hear.
"So we'll have to prove ourselves once we get picked, huh?" Hagakure simply asked until it was Uviel's time to question the teacher.
"They wouldn't be interested in someone who wasn't in control of themselves, would they?" All went silent for a moment when her expectant blue hues lingered on her teacher's dark ones.
"Principal Nezu approved. He informed me while you were asleep, that you would be taking these informatics classes since your explanation was also proven the moment you were rendered unconscious without anyone touching you. So he knows now, that the actions during your match weren't yours alone," explaining that made the cybergirl's eyes widen with awe.
What? He's letting me? I mean-- I'm not complaining, but, at this point, I'm scared of even myself. What if I end up killing someone?! Her mind was now a mess after that, but regardless, her attention remained on the teacher when a simple nod was given to him.
SLAM! Both hands harshly pounded on his desk, Kirishima grinned brightly at Aizawa and couldn't help but feel relieved about the news. "So she really wasn't in control?! Yes, that means we're one step closer to finding out what happened to her, what, or who took control of her!" Though his energy radiated off of him like a heatwave, another student commented and made his red eyes look over.
"Wait, is that even possible? I mean, she's a cyborg, right? Wouldn't that mean she could have a kill switch that could activate?" Tenya asked with a stiff raise of his hand and lowered the minute Aizawa spoke.
"We concluded, that it's not a self-defense kill mechanism inside of her. Her passing out in front of the Principal was a sign that someone had shut her down like a machine. We have some teachers looking into this who specialize in this sort of thing, so it's okay to relax a bit," after saying that, he saw Uviel slump into her seat more and allow a relieved sigh to escape.
"And, continuing with what I was talking about a moment ago; here are the totals for those with offers," To his side, a hand rose to point at the board when it showed a list of kids who had offers. "In other years, it's been more spread out, but all eyes were on these two this year." Upon seeing the board, Sparky grumbled loudly about the differences and Uviel saw her name near the bottom.
Todoroki's first and Bakugo's second? Wait...why am I fourth-- and, where's Haru's name?! I barely made it past Iida, with 320 offers. I-- was not expecting that. Uviel fumed a little when she didn't see Haru's name, however, her attention moved to Kirishima when she heard him; even Jirou mentioned the odd placements on the board.
"It's the opposite of their placements in the sports festival," A little surprised he was, however, hearing Sero made his red gaze glance into his.
"Some people are too scared to ask for a guy who had to be restrained on the podium..." The boy mumbled quietly to try and avoid screams from the blonde ahead of him but it was no use.
"What're the pros scared of?!" Bakugo's outburst made Uviel groan irritably in her seat, just to hear a few other students excitedly talk to one another. Ochaco was so relieved to see that she had offers and wouldn't stop shaking poor Tenya by his shoulders.
"Why would anyone give me offers...?" Saito quietly questioned and didn't even realize that Ochaco heard.
"It's probably because you're interesting! I mean, for someone who was being controlled by a different force, they're curious! I bet- they gave you offers because they want to explore your cybernetics and see what they can teach you!" A beaming smile from the girl and tight fists close to her chest, made a small one grow on Saito's pale lips.
"R- Really? You think so?" Hesitant, she asked, with a light scratch on her cheek and a nervous chuckle. All she received was a confident nod from the girl to answer her question; however, hearing Aiza speak again gained everyone's attention.
"Keeping these results in mind, whether or not anyone asked for you, you will all be participating in internships with pros," after he mentioned that, Midoriya couldn't help but question him about it so the teacher continued. "Yeah. At USJ, you already got to experience combat with real villains, except for Yukimura and Saito; but it will still be meaningful training for you to see pros at work, firsthand," Aiza explained further until Satou spoke up with a fist raised.
"So that explains the hero names!" His excited outburst even made Uraraka cheer, not once did her smile falter.
"Things are suddenly getting a lot more fun!" She had done the same, pumping a fist full of excitement and energy.
"Well, those hero names are still temporary, but if you're not serious about it-" As if on cue, a voice interrupted his own when someone slammed the door open with an outburst.
"You'll have hell to pay later!" A couple of boys gushed when they saw Kayama walk in and continue with her speech. "Because a lot of hero names used by students become recognized by society, and they end up becoming professional hero names!" With her arms behind her head, a pink and girly background rose behind her. As fast as it did, it disappeared when she reached the homeroom teacher and stood by his side.
Everyone except for a few, exclaimed in unison, her hero name when she faced them all. "Midnight!" Excited to see a seductive woman walk in, except Uviel, who simply sat there waiting for her teacher to continue.
"Well, that's how it is. So, Midnight will be making sure that your names are okay. I can't do stuff like that," As he said this, from beneath his desk he picked up a sleeping bag. "When you give yourself a name, you get a more concrete image of what you want to be like in the future, and you can get closer to it. This is what it means when they say, names and nature both often agree. Like, All Might, for example." Not long after his explanation papers were passed down from student to student.
When Uviel received hers, she stared upon it for a good while. What kind of name should I use...? I play online games and console games, but half the time when I do I make up my own names. Or, like Solar Blade on Stargazers, which isn't a legit name... What could I use that would define my cybernetics? she pondered, sitting there thinking of a bazillion randomized names that may or may not fit her.
Cyber... No, that's so lame, it's not unique or cool and too simple sounding. Hm... Cyber impact! No...that sounds like an online game or something. Uh, Malware! No, no-no-no! That would make me sound like a virus, a villain! AARG! Uviel had trouble coming up with something cool, for maybe three to four minutes, until she recalled an old soda she used to love but grew out of.
OOOH, I know a good one. Hahaha, it's so cool. A grin grew on her half, black-colored lips at the idea. Quickly she wrote it down, giggling with excitement to herself and unaware that someone glanced her way out of sheer curiosity. It made perfect sense and could be used for so many different meanings, alas, she chose to wait it out and later explain to Kayama why she'd want the name. I'm guessing she'll want to talk to us all individually about our names, I hope she doesn't, at least-- Dear lord... all of a sudden a wave of nervousness fell over her at the thought of being questioned.
After a few minutes or so, well, Uviel guessed it was about ten since Aizawa was already fast asleep, Midnight concluded the time and gained everyone's attention. "Okay, let's start representing names starting with those who are ready." It was Uviel's worst nightmare! Upon Kayama's statement, quite a few students immediately became uncomfortable with the idea.
Even poor Uviel, who hates to have all eyes on her, shrunk further into her seat with red cheeks. It's seriously happening, shit! Hilarious tears streamed down her cheeks on the inside of her mind, her mental pleas roughly ten minutes ago were for not.
First, it was Aoyama-- With a raise of his paper, he turned it around for everyone to read. "Shining Hero: I can not stop twinkling!" Energy and confidence laced his voice when it rose. "Which means, you can't stop my sparkles!" All the students practically made faces of disbelief or shock, even Uviel was speechless.
"It'll be easier to use if you take out the I and shorten the can not to can't," Midnight corrected the supposed name, and the boy seemed to have liked it, he even thanked her.
Next, it was Ashido with a raise of her paper, sprinting to the front with the biggest grin ever plastered. "Then, I'll go next!" With as much energy as a kitten, the girl faced everyone and announced... "Alien Queen!" Saito couldn't help but chuckle at Mina's silly antics when she pretended to act like a Xenomorph Queen, however, Kayama practically freaked out and warned her not to use it.
"Dang it." A pout as she walked away, the next one up was Asui who raised a hand and spoke.
"Then, may I go next?" As soon as she asked, Midnight instantly approved with a point of her finger and a pleasant smile. It didn't take long for her to reach the desk so when she fully faced them, the paper was turned so they could see. "I've had this in my mind ever since I was in elementary school. Rainy Season Hero: Froppy," Instantly, from the side, the teacher came close cooing over the name.
"That's so cute! It seems friendly, I like it! It's a great example of a name that everyone will love!" Her gushing only made the students, save for a few, cheer out the cute name with several fists in the air.
Next, it was Kirishima, who was standing before the class with his paper facing them. "Then I'll go too! Sturdy Hero: Red Riot!" he exclaimed with so much energy, that Saito's eyes lit up with awe.
Wow... That's sick, actually. Hah, beats Manly Knight by a mile! in her mind, she giggled as tints of red dusted her cheeks.
"You're paying homage to the Chivalrous Hero: Crimson Riot, right?" When Kayama asked, Eijiro's hand rubbed the back of his neck when he answered.
"Yes. It's pretty old-fashioned, but the hero image I'm going for is Crimson himself," When he mentioned that it was in admiration for the Crimson Hero, all he received was a grin and a speech from the woman. Although she warned him of the pressure he'd get from bearing such a name, he reassured her that he'd be able to take it.
A moment later, others were still trying to figure out a name as Saito sat there minding her own business and playing her fighting game underneath her desk. She was fast to tap the buttons, her focused eyes never faltered, that was until a poke from someone's pen got her killed. "Ah, dang it all!" A flinch was all it took for the NPC to use a killer move on her. "Hm...?" To the side, it was Fumikage, her eyes laid upon dark ones, and not too far behind him was Kirishima pumping a fist to try and encourage her.
"I see you made a name. It'd be best if you told Midnight and showed everyone, the others are still having trouble coming up with something," Fumi informed and gave her a reassuring nod, which in her case, only made the girl face-plant onto the paper.
An exasperated, muffled groan came from her before she sat up straight again, to save her progress on her game. "Fine..." Grumpy, she was, as her pale hand rose to get Kayama's attention.
"Yes, Saito?!" Midnight cooed and watched the cybergirl make her way to the front, rather sluggishly too. Everyone stopped with what they were doing and paid attention, curious to see what the cybernetic student represented.
Fully facing the students with her hues viewing them, her paper was lifted for all to see. Even though she hated the attention, she felt like she was doing better than on her first day of school... "Tech Hero: Tectonic..." As soon as she said it, a lot of whoas rose in unison in the classroom. Her eyes widened in surprise at their sudden awe, she wasn't expecting that kind of reaction.
"Wow, that is pretty cool! It seems quite fitting considering you have cybernetics attached. So, why did you choose that name?" Kayama gushed over the cool name after she ran over to the side, with a quick place of her hand on the desk.
"I-... Um, well-- It's..." Saito stammered over her words and tried to look everywhere else except the students' gazes. "It...has loads of meanings. Tectonic..." the girl began then paused for a brief moment to try and put it all into words. "Like two Tectonic plates, I'll crush my enemies. And, I'll fight the other plate with my cybernetics even if the world's shaking from Chaos. The vibrations from my Decennial staff, my cybernetic strength, the wires in my body, the limbs I possess... I'll fight to protect all with everything I have, even under dire quakes from Tectonic plates," Her blush grew deeper and deeper the more she explained, Uviel didn't notice the faintly gaping mouth Kayama had.
Everyone sat there in silence, too astonished by the speech she made since it came from a girl who was known to be too shy or lazy to do anything.
Now, quietly, she walked away with her head held low. Her lips curled to hold back her embarrassment, she had hoped that no negative reaction would come from it but since the reasons just came to her so quickly; alas, it was as quiet as a sleeping park, until the moment her butt touched her chair...
"That was amazing!" Kirishima jumped out of his seat with eyes of awe, while Mina, Ochaco, and a couple of others cheered. "How long did it take you to prepare that speech?! That was especially manly!" he continued to coo over the speech she made and felt tears brim his eyes.
"Indeed, I certainly wasn't expecting such a speech either! Well done, Saito!" Midnight gave her a clap and a reassuring smile before watching the girl face-plant onto her desk again. Anyone on the side opposite from her bangs would be able to see the deep red tints on her cheeks.
After that whole mess, the rest of the students went about their turns and represented their hero names. Uviel nearly peed herself when Bakugo brought up his hero name with aggression, her giggle fits could be heard in the awkward silence that befell the students and Kayama. Wow, talk about a name a child would give their in-game character! Hahahaha! King Explosion Murder! Why does this remind me of that comedic puppet...? 'I kill you'! Hahahaha! her unrelenting humorous thoughts swarmed her mind like a twister, the more she pondered on his name.
Several minutes passed after the blonde was turned down, Iida and Midoriya represented their names but when it was Bakugo's turn again... She just couldn't take it, when he screamed out-- "Lord Explosion Murder!" his outburst made Uviel finally lose it, her laughter made everyone's heads turn to her.
"Hahahahaha!" Her hands gripped her stomach and she almost fell out of her seat at the representation of his name.
"Oi, you wanna die?!" Fury laced his voice, Bakugo snapped at Saito who couldn't stop laughing. When she finally calmed down, it was maybe...ten more minutes later when Aizawa woke up and took over.
"Now that everyone's decided on their hero names, we'll go back to talking about the internships. They will last for a week. As for where you'll have them, those who had offers from pros will be given your lists, so you can choose from those yourself. Those who didn't have offers will choose from among forty agencies around the country that will be accepting our interns. They all work in different places and have different specialties," he explained with a raise of a paper that had a list of names.
Interrupting, Kayama lifted a hand to continue for him and gave them all a pleasant grin. "For example, Thirteen will be focused on rescues and accidents, disasters more than fighting villains," explained the woman as she lowered her hand and her eyes remained on the students.
"Think carefully before you choose," As if on cue, from his little warning, everyone acknowledged with a-- Yes, sire! before the bell rang. Everyone was talking among themselves about the places they wished to go, even Uviel mumbled something to herself. "Turn in your choices before the weekend," as Aiza wandered towards the door, Kayama waved her hand goodbye; Kirishima asked about the two days before the due date just when the teacher was about to leave.
"Make your decision efficiently. Dismissed..." His tiredness was probably making him want to leave as soon as possible so he could sleep more...since he shut the door rather quickly.
