Chapter 16: Her trauma.
"This is a fight to test the strength of your spirit. If you know what you want for your future, then you can't worry about appearances." Shinso, who stood on the platform across from Midoriya, began after the announcement of the next match and both of their introductions, despite Hitoshi already being mentioned before. Not long after his speech his lip curled in disgust when Present Mic exclaimed, Ready!.
Those purple eyes never left Izuku's, when he continued his talk and his attempt to set the boy over the edge. "That monkey was going on about his pride..." Trailing off just before the announcer said start, he let a moment's pause ensue. "But don't you think he was dumb for throwing away his chance?" Finally, after a few minutes of talking, Midoriya's anger spilled over the top, and trotted furiously towards the boy who disrespected one of his classmates.
His teeth gritted, green eyes fumed with rage, his balled fists clenched tightly during his quick walk, and opened his mouth to speak. "What did you say?!" The very emotion that showed on his face came out in his words, though that was his downfall considering the warning Ojiro had given him before... His feet halted, those hues turned white at that moment and Hitoshi's glaring gaze sharpened at the boy.
"I win," he simply spoke to himself, watched Izuku freeze in place, and heard Present Mic comment on their little situation, regarding the odd abrupt stop of Midoriya.
Uviel never changed her posture against the wall, only her gaze peeked over her bicep at the platform and observed Midoriya's fight. Depression, pain, there were very few signs of hope in her eyes and those few signs were just tiny sparks that wavered at the reoccurring words from those boys. Har-Har... Please don't leave me... You're like a sister to me...a big sister, the only family I have left... Midoriya, Kirishima, please, don't go back on your word. Saddened, shaky whispers in her mind echoed as she watched the fight between him and Shinso taking place on the stage.
"Hey, um... What you said moments ago," Kiri slid down the wall Saito sat against, with a simple rest of his elbows on top of his knees; he awkwardly paused for a moment and looked away. "I know it's probably...maybe...none of my business, but..." he trailed off and gradually brought his back to the girl, whose blue eyes moved to meet red ones. "If you wanna talk about it, I'm all ears. Who... Did you lose?" hesitant, worried that he might be stepping on eggshells at this point, frantic actions took place after noticing her emotional stare toward him.
Everyone else sort of just eavesdropped, they all kept their distance but their eyes lingered on the cyber-girl's frame. Of course, the redhead didn't realize it since her attention was on a pair of concerned red eyes, that many would probably gush over. It stayed quiet for at least two to three minutes, even during Midoriya's triumph in his match that made the crowd roar. "My..." her quiet voice trailed off after her attention moved to the hall's floor. "My parents... They were murdered by a villain... Midoriya and Ida both already know what happened since...Hatsume sort of just blurted it out when I came to visit her for gear," Those mumbled words made a gasp leave the darker redhead and for Ida's gaze to slightly squint.
Unbeknownst to her, Ochaco, Mina, everyone's eyes lit up with surprise. However, Kiri, being the sweetheart he is, felt emotional from her reply and decided to pry for a better explanation. "Murdered...?! What villain?!" With him asking that, it only made Saito's fingers clench tighter on her biceps and avert her eyes to the floor again.
"A villain, I don't know... What kind they were or what their quirk was... But they still haven't been caught or at least, found. No one knows who the murderer is, the police have been on the case for over a decade now... And heroes couldn't find their location. If it wasn't for Haru being with me all my life, I wouldn't have anyone to keep me going and I wouldn't be in U.A even as we speak," she answered the boy, tears began to stream down her cheeks when her head lowered back into her arms and only allowed those blue hues to peek over them.
Eijiro remained silent, his frown deepened at her words for he knew that if he pushed or pried more, she'd only grow further away from him. Looking at his own feet now, contemplation was obvious on his face until he heard a faint shake in her voice.
"I was just heading home from school... And my house was just around the block, that was when I heard an explosion..." Uviel continued her explanation, it felt like she needed to get it off of her chest or else. A clenching of her heart, hot tears trickled, her memories flooded her mind as the girl recalled the horrific events that took place.
~~~Flashback~~~
BOOM! Uviel, who's much smaller in frame, halted in place at the sound, and the very explosion that caused a cloud of smoke to rise just a few houses over made her blue gaze widen. The girl's schoolbag dropped to the ground with a light thud when her feet bolted down the sidewalk and left it behind. Mom, Dad! Soft, sweet, and quiet as usual, her thoughts panicked during her run towards home.
Sirens wailed throughout the atmosphere and honking horns followed after, the police and ambulances had arrived not long after she did. A ton of civilians who were nearby had stopped to see what the chaos was about and all stood behind the girl who gawked in pure disbelief at the flaming house. A black and red hoodie over her school uniform covered every bit of her skin, while her thigh socks did the same on her legs. Devastation, disbelief, and shock were what she felt at that moment, and yelling caught her ears a few minutes later.
"Hurry, get them into the ambulances!" one medical doctor exclaimed as the guy hurried alongside one of her parents' rolling beds. He did his best to check their vitals after they were pushed into the vehicles. "We're losing them!" another doctor's voice boomed over the sounds and voices of others.
Stunned in place, she was, too much in shock to move, and inaudible words were directed towards the girl who couldn't stop staring at her parents. Those blue hues stayed glued to their unconscious forms in the ambulances, no matter who tried to pry her attention from the scene or even shake her to snap her out of it; she wouldn't budge, she couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was like a flash, heading home as usual on a school day then jumping to murder and an explosion.
It was all too fast for her, nothing made sense other than the fact that her house was burning to a crisp and her parents were heading to the hospital. "Miss?" a male's voice tried to gain her attention but again, she didn't stir... "Miss?! Are you Uviel Saito? Their Daughter?" This time it finally snapped her out of her state of shock, a little...just enough to make her eyes meet brown ones to see who was talking to her. A simple, sluggish nod came from the girl in response, and not too much longer did she feel a blanket wrap around her frame from behind.
"Miss, don't worry... Your parents are heading to the hospital. We'll do everything in our power to save them... Their condition is critical, our vow to save lives outweighs our pay and hours, and we'll make sure they'll survive. Do you have any friends or other family you can stay with until then?" That question caused her eyes to widen, the more she thought about it the more lonely she felt...because...
"No..." Engulfed in pain, in sorrow, her voice shook when she answered and tears of shock fell. She couldn't think clearly, not well enough for her to properly answer knowing she had a best friend. That was...until a voice hollered out her name from the distance, many people looked over to see who it came from and those blue emotional hues saw her.
"Uvi!" the brunette who she sticks to like glue, even to this day, waved as she ran to her best friend and halted just before the redhead. "Uviel..." There the snake girl sensed it, the pounding of her heart meeting her ears, the quivering breaths from her friend's lips, Haru knew exactly what was going on and it pained her the more she pieced it all together.
At that moment, a cry of pain reached her ears and heavy tears flew behind the cyber-girl when she rushed to her friend. Har-Har felt the girl bury her face into her shirt and scream, the tight clench of her fists showed just how hurt she was. The brunette took it seriously, her arms gently wrapped around her smaller frame and held her into a comforting hug. "I'm here Uvi..." Those words only made her friend cry harder. Yukimura could feel the sorrow, the hurt that came from Saito during that moment and it only made her frown deepen.
~~~Time skip~~~
Later that day Uviel was seen curled up at her parents' bedside, sobbing silently to herself and wanting nothing more than to have her mother and father open their eyes again. Yukimura just stood in the doorway viewing her in her odd vision, watching the redhead cuddle close, and heard spills of regret leave her.
Saito couldn't handle their deaths very well, she was attached, so close to them that she begged the heavens above to give them another chance at life. "Mom, Dad, please don't leave me all alone! Please!" her muffled sobs and words echoed through the blankets that covered her parents. A few doctors did their best to comfort the girl while they rubbed her back and another tried to speak to her in their crouched position.
~~~Present Day~~~
Everyone stood with sympathy on their faces, even Kiri, he couldn't find any words to reassure her but...there was still one thing that lingered in his mind and it was a question that he believed, could wait until after the festival. His red eyes stayed glued to her mournful state, his frown never faded since he knew that her emotional state was more serious than what he expected.
"Listen..." he began with a lift of his hand and planted it reassuringly on her shoulder. "We're all friends here, you're not alone anymore you have Yukimura and us!" Now, his grin returned, though he knew there was still a little more to her past than what she was saying, but figured it was best to not push it any further.
Seeing her unexpectedly hopeful eyes meet his, made his cheeks burn at how stunning they suddenly became at his words. Averting his attention and a quick rub on his neck, the boy hesitantly fidgeted in his spot. "Y- You don't have to worry anymore. You can hang out with us at any time and train with us, and..." he paused for a minute with his still yet, burning cheeks before shuffling around in his jumpsuit for something particular. "I...well... I wanted to give you this at the end of the festival but I figured I'd give it to you now, while I had the chance," Out from his suit, which he partially unzipped, a piece of paper was pulled out and his hand quickly zipped it back up.
When the lighter redhead took it and opened it up, her cheeks turned red at the sight; it was a phone number, his...phone number. Her eyes lit up with shock before quickly stashing it away into her suit and hiding her arms between her knees and chest. "You can call me if you ever need anything!" A bright, shiny grin grew when his eyes closed and gave her a reassuring pat on her shoulder, followed by a thumbs up. "I got your back, we all do, Sait-" Her own words overran his just when he was about to mention her last name.
"U- Uviel... Just...call me Uviel...and... Thank you," hesitant, embarrassed, her attention couldn't move to his eyes no matter how hard she tried, so she missed the part where his entire head turned beet-red.
"Out of formalities, now? C- Cool! Then, you can just call me Eijiro!" His grin could even outmatch Haru's at this point because it made the lighter redhead gasp, at how accepting he was. When the boy watched her nod, he couldn't help but giggle at how adorable her red cheeks were and how the girl kept trying to hide them.
~~~Elsewhere~~~
A pair of feet sprinted down the street and droplets of her tears flew behind her, Wani watched her from up on a rooftop and his cloak flailed gently in the soft breeze. Those bright yellow slits were so focused on the brunette, who ran out of the stadium in fear of possibly killing Shinso and of her dark side taking over.
"So, this chick's fighting it off constantly," deep, clear, his voice was as a crocodile hiss occurred on occasion. "Heheheh, maybe this is the reason why he contacted me. I bet he knew she was my type.~" his natural, crocodile smirk curled up further into a supposed grin and exposed parts of his sharp teeth.
(Here's Wani's picture! <3 I made this about a week ago I think, haha xD! I was super excited about his character so I just NEEDED to draw him. :D!)
Casually his hands lifted and brushed the hood of his cloak down, revealing his scaly head. No, it wasn't your ordinary baldness or reptilian head... He had thick and long black gradient scales that shaped out like slicked-back hair and barely reached the end of his neck. Dark green skin with shining scales could be seen all over his body after the cloak was removed. A much lighter, fainter green covered the front of his neck, the entirety of his torso, his palms, armpits, abdomen, and further down.
His thick, open, black, puffy, and sleeveless vest had bright yellow straps that crossed each other over his large pecks. A bright yellow belt held up his baggy, gray camo pants that had blotches of black and dark green all over them. Light, black leather boots covered his reptilian feet while his crocodile tail flailed softly behind him. No eyebrows could be seen on the man, the lack of them made his eyes look sterner than what they seemed when he had his cloak on.
Wani, who stood six feet and eight inches, softly rubbed at his one bicep that had a unique, black tattoo of a row of teeth. From afar it would look like a tight armband but up close, it'd be easy to tell that it was an open mouth silhouette with rows of sharp teeth. Around his wrist looked like a black flame tattoo, it was gradient in color as it faded into his dark green hand. Not too much longer did a low bellow escape his throat, when he watched the brunette race over to the public pool afar from them; the place where he had to meet up with the owner of the odd text.
She's interesting.~ his curiosity was piqued even more now since he saw the display during her match against Hitoshi.
