Chapter 12: PvP mode!
In the audience sat a stranger in a cloak, piercing slits viewed the brunette's backside curiously while the teacher's words over the mic reached his ears. The rankings listed her as one of the top few that made it just before the double-digit mark and interest could be seen in those yellow hues. How did she look directly at me, her eyes were blind... But she moved them to me as if she weren't. When she looked at me, I felt... Fear. It's weird since a blind person can't make someone afraid with just one look. That chick's interesting... There's somethin' about her that I can't shake and I want to find out. A deep monologue indicated that the cloaked figure was a male, even a strong jaw could be seen on his shadowed face. There was too much shade on his features to truly be able to see him and a few citizens to his side had questioning gazes when they viewed him in their peripherals.
Simply curious about the girl, the shady man chose to stick around so he could watch Yukimura closer. Heheheh, his daughter's pretty hot.~ She's close to my age, too... By a few years. He pondered and sat there watching the large screen inside the stadium, waiting for the next course to be concluded.

The announcement about the next course made Uviel feel nothing but dread, as she stood there wide-eyed at the teacher on the stage. However, Haru kept her attention on the same boy who declared war at Kirishima, her muffled snickering fell upon deaf ears since the whole audience and the loud music out-toned her. "Har-Har...? Did you hear that? We can be in teams of two to four people and our points, well, I'm guessing we're in the millions or close to that big number... So people are probably going to snatch our points more frequently than others, aside from Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugo," the redhead mentioned when she turned to face her best friend and chose to ignore the metal-head whose attention was taken by the teacher.
"So, how're we going to do this? You hate running everywhere and I don't think I can carry you for a long time. Hm, you know, this might actually be an issu-" Before Haru could even fully answer, the cyber-girl ran over her words with a quick fold of her arms and a sigh left her lips.
"Dude, I'll carry you... I don't see any other option here and I don't think anyone's gonna join our little team," Uviel's black upper lip curled into a frown at the thought, and noticed that Har-Har opened her mouth to speak, until, another announcement boomed throughout the stadium.
"Now then, I'll explain the rules of the cavalry battle! The time limit is fifteen minutes. Each team is worth the total of its members' points, and the riders will wear a headband with that number on their foreheads. Teams will try to grab each other's headbands until time runs out and try to keep as many points as they can. Stolen headbands must be worn from the neck up, so the more you steal the harder it'll be to manage them! And the most important is that even if your headband gets stolen, or if your team falls, you're not out!" the teacher explained after pointing her small whip at the students and keeping her grin plastered.
N- N- No, no no no no no, I refuse to get separated! I don't wanna leave Haru! I don't want our team of two to fall! The redhead's frantic thoughts cried out as her blue hues glued themselves to the grass around her feet. Devastation in her wide eyes, beads of sweat rolled down her face after that moment's pause.
The very sound of her heartbeat could be heard in the brunette's ears and concern washed over her face within that second, therefore, a hand rose with a reassuring touch to her friend's shoulder. Seeing the colors from all of the scents and watching the movement from the vibrations around her, the girl saw Uviel turn her head to her. "Psst, don't worry. If things get rough just give me a loud whistle...! A whistle that only you know, I respond to...~ That is...if we get separated.~" Yukimura's whisper reached the redhead's ears and for a brief moment, there was a relieved sigh that she heard coming from her friend.
"Sure, thanks..." UV-Ray whispered back and patted the snake-girl's hand, just to feel it leave her shoulder before moving her eyes back to the teacher. So, if I carry her, she could focus on everyone and everything with her powerful senses... And I could do all of the jumping, evasion, and stuff to avoid her headband getting stolen. Haru's quick to react to many things, so I wouldn't put it past her if she manages to protect me and herself... her thoughts continued to ponder on the possibilities after a finger tapped against her chin.
"During the game, it'll be a cruel fight where you can use your quirks, but... It's still a cavalry battle. You'll get a red card for trying to make people fall on purpose! You'll be removed immediately! Now, you have fifteen minutes to build your teams. Start!" hearing the teacher explain everything, Haru instantly hooked arms with Uviel and gave the girl a bright smile that seemed to have reassured her.
~~~Elsewhere~~~
The cloaked male wandered through the pathways where many stalls and consignment stands were aligned on either side. The male passed by many citizens and heroes, every once in a great while he'd stop to look at a shop. He was pretty tall, compared to a few men that stood six feet or so, he seemed to tower over them by a solid eight inches. "I'll take one of your burgers with an extra patty," a deep, clear voice and a faint crocodile hiss could be heard. Slight annoyance was obvious in his yellow slits after he ordered, his sharp teeth that stuck out from being gritted made it clear that he wasn't happy. I really need to go for a dip, my skin's itchy... his monologue echoed as one of his feet tapped against the ground impatiently. Hearing the sizzling sound of meat cooking on a grill was like music to his ears and the lovely smell of the patty wafted up to his nose. He loved meat, very much so that the scent nearly made his mouth water.
As he stood there waiting, a light ding resonated from his pocket and an arm could be seen shifting from beneath the cloak. Casually a cell phone was taken out and remained slightly hidden in his coverage, eyes scanning the contents he received from a text message. Meet me at the local pool after the sports festival, I'd like to speak with you. the message said, only to earn a scoff and the phone to be put back on his lock-screen. The cell phone was soon stashed back into his pocket when he rolled his eyes, then grinned excitedly when he saw the hamburger in a nice wrapper being handed to him.
Talk to me, eh? Whatever, I need to go for a swim anyway... Hm, how'd they get my number? Those thoughts continued to roam his mind when he strode down the pathway and sat on a community bench. Close to his lips, the burger inched. A strange mouth was exposed, where the line reached just below his cheekbones into a natural smirk, and rows of sharp teeth went to bite down on the sandwich after his mouth widely opened. Grease seeped from the meat the second his teeth sunk in and ripped off half of it.
~~~With Haru~~~
Everyone had already picked out their teams and stood in groups, where Haru and Uviel both stood awkwardly alone while most had teams of four. "We can do this, UV-Ray! Even if we have only two of us that doesn't mean we can't be a Two-woman army!" a fist pumped into the air once a beaming grin formed, the brunette was doing her best to not make things feel negative.
However, Tetsu's black eyes viewed the redhead whose exhausted blue hues slightly saddened at the thought of no one else joining. Kirishima hoped that people would swarm her and Yukimura, wanting to join their team but now only regret filled his heart at the sight of a team of two. As his teammates remained close and conversed about their plans, his focus kept stayed on the lighter redhead until someone gained his attention.
"Yeah, we're gonna have to be on our toes then," with that mentioned, a thumbs-up was what she received and a triumphant grin formed as if she knew what the outcome would be.
"Now then, it's about time to get started!" the teacher announced during her short stretch and walked up on stage once more, not once did her smile falter.
After fifteen minutes to form teams and talk strategy, twelve cavalry teams are lined up on the field! the announcer's enthusiastic voice boomed over the mic, followed by Aizawa's who seemed rather tired after he spoke. "Now, raise those battle cries! It's time for U.A.'s bloody battle! Light the signal fire!" once he finished, Yukimura put on her headband tightly and was now sitting on Uviel's shoulders.
The brunette appeared to be weightless in the cyber-girl's hold, but, knowing her cybernetics allowed her above average strength for her age and size, she could be easily underestimated. "WE GOT THIS, HAHAHA!" a strong fist pumped into the air at Yukimura's outburst, which only made her best friend groan with a quick roll of her eyes.
Man, she's so loud, just like the audience... A sweatdrop rolled down her head after her monologue and shifted in her position to better correct herself. If I use my boots in this run... I won't have any power left over for the final course. All right... pausing for a moment, her thoughts zoomed through her mind the second her gaze closed, and stood there pondering on strategies that many would use in a video game. If anyone approaches us to try and steal her headband, I could duck to let Haru take care of them; or jump and kick them in mid-air to push them away. Run straight to the goal, take quick routes, and shortcuts, ignore everyone that chases except the ones who use their quirks on me, and if at all possible... I could toss Har-Har into the air and use my Decennial Tremor to make a distraction so she and I could escape their line of sight. If this was a video game, I'd want to use the quickest and most useful method there is, but in a cavalry battle... I've only ever played racing games like Race Car ones and Mario Cart... I'll need to see this as more of a competitive video game, than a festival if we're going to pull through. Her eyes shot open the minute the announcer exclaimed over his mic.
All right! You've made your teams, right?! I'm not gonna ask if you're ready or not! Now, let's go! Counting down to the brutal battle royal! Three! the announcer paused and made Uviel grow a newfound determination in her eyes the moment the countdown began.
Everyone prepared to sprint and something flashed within her mind, a quick grin for a millisecond inside blackness before something in her legs moved. Two! The announcer continued until the redhead's widened eyes blinked, from surprise at the sudden change in her cybernetics, something that made her feel that she could run much faster.
~~~~~
The same male's black silhouette shifted in the darkness in front of a screen and adjusted some cords attached to his head. Don't worry, I unlocked it for you...~ I want to see just how fast I made you over the years... a mechanical voice rang through the dimly lit room before chuckling at his own words.
~~~~~
One! The announcer yelled one last time, when he did so, Uviel felt as though she could run ninety miles an hour with how she felt about the odd shift in her cybernetics. As soon as the teacher on the stage swatted out her whip in their direction, with a quick start leaving her lips, everyone bolted.
"Don't go for Midoriya, wait until everyone's distracted! Then swipe when their backs are turned...!" This coming from the redhead during her sprint, Haru gasped at the idea and allowed a mischievous grin to form.
"Gotcha!" the brunette accepted the sneaky terms and hunkered her head close to the top of her best friend's. The smells in the air, each student had their own scent so she was able to pick up on them for the most part. Sounds of clashes and quirks being used resonated near the center of the field.
Close to the wall of the stadium, Uviel ran around in a circle to look for an opening for Yukimura to strike. "Striking from the shadows is the best course of action right now, considering we're only two people... It's the same way for online PvP. If many people leave your team or rage quit and leave you alone to defend yourself, you're forced to the shadows to survive," her words reached her best friend's ears and could see the dark grin that had shown many times before, growing on her lips.
The girl ran around and realized that she was able to run a lot easier, there was little to no exhaustion in her legs during her sprint. A boy with short blonde hair came into her view and the moment she saw him twirling another person's headband on his finger, his back was to her. So, quickly the girl bolted for the boy, using the newfound stamina in her legs no thanks to the shift in her cybernetics.
"You smell him, don't you? He's twirling the headband on his finger, so snatch that if you can and grab the one around his neck if possible. Use both of your hands at the same time if you must...!" her quietly exclaimed words caused the brunette to nod and prepare her hands.
Avoiding eyesight from the other students who were too focused on their targets, Haru quickly lifted her head the closer they got to the boy's backside. Faster and faster, her legs ran all of a sudden which only made the brunette grin more.
As if everything moved in slow-motion, both of her hands reached for the headbands and planned to grab them at the same time, to avoid their guard rising to protect the other one.
Snatch! Right from his fingertip and a tearing sensation from around his neck, the snake-girl managed to sneakily steal the headbands when Uviel was just about to run past. In that slow-motion moment, his eyes lit up with shock and the redhead quickly backed up to hide behind the team, before quietly running in another direction unseen.
He couldn't believe his eyes when he looked over his shoulder to see who stole them, not one sight of the girls could be seen. Uviel kept hunkering down behind the backsides of groups who were too busy fighting each other, to hide her small frame, and her best friend... Who... Contently fiddled with the headbands around her neck. "An easy snatch, wow, that dude wasn't paying attention was he? Hahaha!" Haru stifled her laughter and grinned behind her hand that covered her mouth. "Your gamer skills are showing, UV-Ray.~" Teasing with a playful slip of her tongue out, she did her best to fold up the headbands around her neck to make sure there was going to be room.
"Shush, be quiet...!" the redhead grew annoyed at her loud outburst and earned a giddy slap to her forehead, which caused the girl to groan in the process. Hearing the announcer go crazy over his mic, the second she overheard her and Haru's name being mentioned made her feel as though her gut dropped into her bowels...
It looks like Saito and Yukimura are choosing to strike from the shadows! What will they do next?! His booming voice made the redhead profusely sweat and saw a couple of teams look around for them.
Quickly, Uviel gained an idea after noticing those few groups looking for them. While they're busy looking for me outside of the bustling quirk-shooters, I'll run into the horde and hide within to catch the outer scouts off guard... Quickly, with almost no effort, she pushed herself towards the horde of people who were hurdling after each others' targets and timed her crouches.
With her speed, she skidded across the ground to avoid everyone's eyes almost like a baseball player on the field, and made sure that Haru stayed on her shoulders. Hazy green hues stared into space before her, with that dark grin still plastered and her friend's hues focused on one particular group, who stood just outside of the hurdling quirk-shooters.
Crouched real low and stopped just behind someone's broad backside, without Uviel even knowing she did, Yukimura swiped a headband right when her best friend was about to take off again. The said group flinched and looked around, but couldn't find the culprit who stole their rider's headband.
"Haru, swipe their headband while their backs' turned, quickly...!" her risen but hushed voice met her friend's ears the second they were closing in on their backs. It's that boy with silver hair and metallic body, I need to be careful... the girl's monologue seemed rather concerned about who she was about to get close to.
Heheee, perfect!~ The last group didn't even know what stole it and now, I can grab Tetsutetsu's headband... Hehehehehahahahaaa! This is so much fun! I love being sneaky! the brunette's creepy, giggling, thoughts echoed and her green hues lit up with excitement the closer she got to his head; another slow-motioned moment occurred during her reach for his band.
Her dark smirk twisted into more of a larger, sadistic one the second her fingers brushed the tip of his headband. The girl's tan hand which was stretched out as far as she could, was soon brushed away right when the brunette was about to grab it and it surprised her.
Though it wasn't Tetsu's hand, someone else ran between them and tried to reach for her few headbands around her neck. Uviel saw this and jumped backward, with a glance of Tetsu's backside growing more distant during their sprint towards Midoriya.
As fast as her legs could carry, the redhead bolted with annoyance clear on her face. However, Haru smelled Shinso nearby, which indicated who attempted to steal from her and those widened green hues remained unchanged. "Uviel, it's Shinso! He saw us sneaking!" those slightly panicked words made the redhead scoff and roll her eyes.
"Yeah, I know, why do you think I took off in a rush like that...?" Annoyed, and angry, Saito hated the fact that Shinso caught onto their little team's methods so quickly and kept on her toes.
Purple eyes glued to their backsides during their run, Hitoshi had noticed that sudden change in Yukimura's expression and just had to jump in. There it was again... he began and soon took notice of their method of stealing. Using Yukimura to swipe headbands while Saito's sneaking around, is quite a tactical approach considering they're only a team of two... However, I don't think they'll last long. People will catch on quickly once they notice that others are losing their headbands randomly and can't find out who it is that's taking them. Thanks to Present Mic, I knew that there was a hit-and-run team running around in the shadows... Clever. As he spoke in his mind and gave chase to the two girls, something else caught his attention, someone else who had a higher potential of stealing the headbands and demanding that they head for them instead.
Uviel ran around and soon hugged the wall nearby to watch the mass of students run amuck for each others' headbands. "We got away... Good... That blonde boy from earlier looks like he got more headbands this time. We need to go after him and grab as many as we can, got it Haru?" asked her best friend, her blue hues glanced up and took notice of the utterly shocked expression on the brunette's face. "Har-Har?" No, not once did the girl on her shoulders snap out of her astonishment.
He... He stopped me within that second. How? I was fast, did he time everything? Those thoughts roamed her mind like a twister until her friend's voice brought her back to reality. "H- Huh?! Sorry! Yeah, snatch as many headbands from that blonde boy, got it!" nodding and stuttering in her breath, the snake-girl frowned for just a second before getting replaced with a smirk. However he did it, it was pretty cool...~ shadow coated her blind hues after her head lowered and her smirk grew larger.
