Chapter 10: Skyrocketing!

A/N: I decided to skip a lot of the main plot dialogue since we already know what happens throughout the anime so I'm only showing pieces of it so you'll know what's all happening. XD

~~~~~~~~~
Students at U.A have been training for the remaining weeks and Uviel finally managed to get the hang of the Decennial Tremor. It was the night before the sports festival and the two girls stayed at the redhead's home like they agreed on at the hospital. She wouldn't dare let her best friend get abused or tortured by her father if she could help it. The redhead who kept her backside against Haru's, kept staring into space from the thoughts that continued to swirl in her blue hues. Snoring from behind her made it obvious that the brunette was asleep, so it relieved her a bit knowing she was at least comfortable despite the past two weeks, that had passed with her staying in her home.
Her memories flew through her mind of how much fun and how carefree she felt, around her parents. Being cybernetic she was able to access her memories from when she was only five years old when she kept snuggling up to her mother and received cuddling arms in return. Images of her playing dress-up with her father, who dressed to appear like some pirate and chased her around their house. Her squeals, giggles, and pleas for her father to stop tickling her while her mother took pictures.
Going outside to play in the sandboxes and playgrounds until...a very painful memory came around. Uviel was able to see herself lying on an ambulance stretcher as her mother screamed out her name, crying. Her father jumped into the vehicle with the other doctors after they put her inside and her dazed blue hues bore into brown ones just before the doors shut. Everyone rushed to get the air mask over her mouth and faint, but audible enough, words could be heard conversing around her. Her body's failing! one doctor exclaimed as they rushed themselves to put IVs in her arms.
The sound of the ambulance's siren whaled in her ears as they zoomed down the street. Her father kept trying to keep her awake during the ride and only managed to for ten minutes... Honey, stay awake! You need to stay awake! his deep and concerned voice met her ears as it gradually became muffled.
Am I...dying...? those simple words echoed innocently and weakly in her mind before everything went black. However, right when she remembered blacking out, her journey through memory lane halted when a yawn escaped her lips.
"Good night, Har-Har..." her whispered words were unheard since her best friend was fast asleep. Now it was her turn to do so. Those blue eyes slowly closed, and not long after she passed out as well.
~~~The next day~~~

Morning came around and Uviel sat in the waiting room full of her classmates. They all had to change into their blue outfits for the tournament and Haru wasn't pleased in the slightest, for the brunette kept moping in the corner. The students had to keep whatever weapons they had beforehand, locked up for the time being unless they weren't lethal and were a part of their quirk. "Man... I wanted to wear my costume," Mina whined and pulled at the fabric of her jumpsuit when a frown formed.

"Yeah, no kidding... I wanted to show off my cool snake-like costume too! It's not fair..." a childish pout puffed out when Haru's green hues remained staring into space before her. The brunette was seen sitting at the table laying her head down, next to Uviel who only shrugged at her words.

"I'll tell you what's not fair... Having to take off my damn hoodie, all because I have to wear this blue get-up," the redhead's words made Mina and Ochaco look at her confusedly. Uviel kept trying to hide her arms beneath the table and nervously moved her eyes around to see if anyone was possibly judging her, considering what happened during lunchtime some time ago.

"To keep things fair, we can't," a boy with blonde hair and a tail with fuzz on the end explained to everyone with a passive smile, who complained. "By the way, why do you want to wear that hoodie all the time?" that question caught Haru's attention, and chose to listen in despite not looking in his direction.

"I... I, um... It's just..." Saito stumbled over her words, hesitant to answer the boy who was genuinely curious about the hoodie addiction.

"She's just very self-conscious about the lines on her skin, that's all!" Yukimura chimed and gave him a wave of her hand to reassure him, which in turn, only made him hum in thought. Her outburst caused the cyber-girl's face to light up from embarrassment. She was beginning to dislike her lack of consideration... unless she was being considerate and she's just trying to reassure her that no one's judging. It's hard for her to understand her best friend's motives sometimes.

Fumikage and Mezo both glanced in her direction after the brunette's explanation and watched her forehead meet the table's surface with a light thud. The four-armed boy faintly blushed at her adorable, embarrassed, behavior while Fumi simply kept his questioning gaze on her. However, the darker redhead blushed at the cute tomato red on her cheeks then swiftly covered his mouth with a quick avert of his red eyes. So cute!~ his thoughts echoed as a goofy grin formed behind his hand.

Light sweat trickled down another boy's face who sat at the table in front of Mez and Fumi, he felt the situation was a bit personal so he didn't want the awkward air to continue any longer. "I wonder what the first round's gonna be..." the boy, whose lips were puffy and full, questioned rather nervously.

"No matter what comes, we have no choice but to deal with it," Fumi noted with a close of his eyes and kept his arms folded, just to receive a simple nod and an agreement from the muscular boy to his side.

"Everyone, are you ready?!" the door to the room was pushed open by Ida who exclaimed and gained the student's attention. "We will be entering soon!" his loud voice caused the redhead to cover her ears and groan. Though, unlike her, Yukimura rose from her seat and pumped a fist laughing.

"Hahaaaaa! Yes! Finally!" Her outburst only earned her an annoyed glare from her best friend but ignored it regardless. One thing caught her and everyone else's attention, a boy with white and red hair approached Midoriya with a stern face.

"Todoroki, what is it?" Izuku questioned the boy with concern and fully faced him.

"Looking at things objectively, I think I'm stronger than you," said Todo, which caused the green-haired student before him to emit a questioning huh and watched him nod with a simple Y- Yeah, in response. "But... All Might has his eye on you, doesn't he?" his question made the boy lightly gasp then continued after his quick pause. "I'm not trying to pry about that, but I'm going to beat you..." Those narrowed, multi-colored eyes watched Midoriya light up with shock at those words.

"Oh? Is the best in the class making a declaration of war?" a blonde with a lighting streak in his hair, nervously questioned and kept his eyes upon the two.

"Hey, hey, hey, why are you picking a fight all of a sudden? Not now, we're about to start!" Kirishima walked up to Todo with a gently placed hand on his shoulder, only for it to get brushed off with a simple movement.

"We're not here to play at being friends. So what does it matter?" Todo's question reached the darker redhead's ears as he walked away from the two. However, Midoriya's words caught his attention and made him halt. Their conversation continued for a bit longer and his eyes grew determined.

After a long silence ensued, Haru decided to break the awkward silence that filled the air and purposefully burped so loud...that it even scared a few people... "BRRRRUUUUUURPPPP!" Yukimura placed a hand on her stomach and patted it, giggling to herself at the hysterical situation she made, including the dumbfounded expressions she received. "Hahahaha, sorry!~ Too many breakfast burritos!" Hard laughter escaped her lips and a few classmates even began to laugh.

As time passed, their waiting paid off when they heard the announcement boom over the speakers. Hey! Pay attention, audience! Swarm, mass media! This year's high school rodeo of adolescence that you all love, the U.A. Sports Festival, is about to begin! Everybody, are you ready?! the exclaiming voice made the crowd cry out as the students all stood in a long hall waiting to exit. Uviel's blue hues saw bits of the large audience in the far distance across the large clearing and caused her to gulp nervously. Never in her life did she perform in front of thousands of people... It's time for the students to enter the first-year stage!

"Yes! Hahaha!" Haru's excited voice rang loudly in the hall and caught everyone by surprise; then soon jumped behind her best friend with a tight wrap around her shoulders. "Dude, I can smell your nervousness...! Don't be scared, UV-Ray! I got your back!" encouraging, cheerful, and full of energy she was as the brunette gave her a warm hug before letting her go.

"T- Thanks..." Saito couldn't let her words ease her when she knew that she'd soon be in front of a large audience. Music from the Festival started up and the very sound made her heart race faster against her chest.

"Yeah, don't be scared! You can do this, Saito!~ It's super manly of you to not run away from a grand opportunity like this!" Kirishima beamed when he came up to her side and leaned over, tightening both of his fists close to his waist with a broad grin.

Close to her face, seeing his red eyes meet her stunning blue ones, the cyber-girl heavily blushed and moved her eyes away. Albeit, rather annoyed that he called her manly, a bit of irritation was obvious on her face despite the red tints. "I- I'm not manly, I'm a girl..." Those mumbled words fell upon deaf ears, well most, because Har-Har began to giggle at her quiet reply.

It wasn't long after their little moment of encouragement when they stepped foot out of the tunnel and into the light. Everyone in class 1-A made their way across the grass during the announcer's next speech and Uviel's nervous gaze aimlessly viewed everything around her. The brunette kept her bright smile present during her fits of giggles and gave her cybernetic friend a reassuring pat on her shoulder, just to feel her tensed frame ease slightly.

Upon hearing class 1-B get announced both of the girl's attention moved to another tunnel and saw the many students make their way outside. However, the loud boy from before with silver hair glanced in 1-A's direction and desperately searched the students. He wasn't noting everyone to keep an eye out for, he was looking for someone in particular that made heat rush to his face. When he spotted the cyber-girl, he nearly tumbled over his own feet if he hadn't kept his composure. Red had spread all over his face, even more, when he noticed her blue hues staring in his direction.

Next, it was the general studies classes, C, D, and E. Shinso's purple eyes remained forward with one single goal in mind but would give class 1-A an occasional glance, curious if Haru had her dark smirk plastered this time or not. Then it was the support and business classes, eventually, all the classes showed up and gathered around.

Once everyone stood before a large stand, which one of the female teachers stood on, the very woman swatted her small whip into the air and raised her voice. "Time for the player pledge!" her voice exclaimed and many men in the audience gushed over her costume. Uviel couldn't hear much of the conversation between the darker redhead and his pal next to him but the girl did mentally question the absurd costume the teacher wore... "Quiet, everyone!" a harsh swing of her small whip, the teacher demanded and stood confidently on the stage. "Representing the students is Katsuki Bakugo from class 1-A!" Nearly everyone in the said class spoke among each other regarding the hot-headed blonde, which practically made UV-Ray groan and sweatdrop at the statement.

You gotta be kidding me... He's loud, annoyingly hot-headed, and too temperamental. Why was he picked again? The girl's monologue echoed as her blue hues grew irritated at the thought.

Once the blonde reached the mic, his pledge made the students boo him and his classmates nearly turned pale at his words. "I pledge... That I'll be number one," that was all he said to cause such an uproar.

The whole scene played out before the brunette and redhead as they both stood there dumbfounded at his words. Never in their life have they met someone so overconfident, and arrogant before...

After the whole mess eased, it was now time for the first game. "Now, let's get started right away!" the teacher yelled with pure excitement beaming on her lips. After her short talk, a screen appeared behind her and showed some sort of randomizing program to determine the game. "This year, it's..." After trailing off, she waited for the game to be picked and soon heard it stop. "This!" Finally finishing her sentence, the word obstacle race appeared on the screen.

The very idea of the race made Uviel feel utter dread, her blue gaze widened at the game just to let out a mentally exhausted groan. Though, Haru giggled with a quick fist-pump to her side swiftly shutting her blind hues. "All eleven classes will participate in this race. The course will be the outer circumference of this stadium, about four kilometers!" announced the teacher, who soon raised her small whip once more and continued. "Our school's selling point is freedom!" With a short pause, her tongue slipped out, and licked her lips before continuing. "As long as you stay on the course, it doesn't matter what you do...!~ Now, take your places, everyone!" After her words, all the students gathered near a red gate and watched as green lights brightly shone to indicate a countdown.

"Dear lord, I hate running...!" Uviel whined and pouted, her slumped-over shoulders only made her lack of enthusiasm show more until a pat on her backside caught her attention.

"Hey, don't worry! You got this UV-Ray, I'll stay near you to make sure no one tries to run you over or anything!~" Cheerful, bright, and reassuring Haru was when she spoke. Upon feeling the ground faintly vibrate, she knew that Uviel nodded silently to her words.

"Thanks, Har-Har... Though, I don't think they can run over someone who's a cyborg... I probably weigh a lot more than the average girl that's my size..." A sweatdrop fell upon the side of her head when her gaze squinted at the thought. Her words only made her best friend laugh hard and felt the brunette's hand softly ruffle up her red hair, causing her to groan.

"That's the way to think, don't be discouraged! Let your metallic weight be your advantage!" a fist pumped into the air after Har-Har encouraged and gave her a toothy, beaming grin.

"Heh..." that was all the cyber-girl muttered and allowed an appreciative grin to spread across her lips. The anticipation grew the longer Uviel stared at the three lights and when one turned off with a quick beep, her feet took a sprinting position. However, Haru grinned and leaned close to her ear, she knew her best friend kept those rocket boots on.

"Hey, as soon as they start running, let's use your boots to shoot us through the small corridor...~" Her whispered words made her friend's eyes light up with hope, and her mouth gaped at the thought.

"Not a bad idea.~" A grin formed on the girl and prepared her rocket boots by using the back of her heels to press a button. That single button activated both shoes, which caused a faint dark blue glow to appear around the metal pieces in them. Uviel needed to be mindful of the energy usage since she never practiced using them during her training sessions. Very slowly she bent over and tapped her best friend's hand, who felt the redhead gesture to her backside. "Hop on, I'll be able to fly us both through this," after those words, Haru gave her the biggest grin and loudest giggle before stepping behind her.

Carefully the snake-girl climbed, grasping her shoulders, and felt her feet being held up by the girl's hands. "Wooo, piggy-back! Hahahahaha!" her laughter caught everyone's ears and caused all the students nearby to gaze questionably in their direction. Now, Uviel watched the three lights, preparing herself even more when she noticed the second light turning off.

I sure hope this works... I'm just thankful that Hatsume gave me a manual on these boots when I visited her yesterday. her thoughts echoed as she recalled yesterday's events that were never shown before, watching as the inventor herself handed her a small booklet before she ran out of the room. Those blue hues twitched slightly when the final light disappeared and stood there observing everyone rush through the chaos.

"Hurry, Uviel!" Yukimura screamed with excitement when her finger pointed ahead of them.

"No, not yet... A gamer knows an opening when they see one, there's not one yet..." the redhead explained and kept her stunning eyes upon the crowd until a large coating of ice caught everyone's feet excluding hers. At that moment, the cyber-girl was utterly grateful that she was far behind everyone else... Especially since she didn't run into the corridor yet. "Wait for it...aaaaand..." her quiet words trailed off a moment when she saw several other 1-A students break past the barricade of students. "Now..." A simple jump activated the flight mode and there they went, soaring high above the crowd with a blast of red flames from her boots pushing her ahead.

Many students felt the heat from her rocket boots and the light wind when they flew past, causing a few of them to gawk confusedly. "Woooohohohohohooo! Hahahaha! UV-Ray, this is fun!" arms above her head, Haru's excited scream made a few students ahead, after they flew out the other side of the corridor, to glance over their shoulders.

"Heh... Fun for you..." A single sweatdrop fell down her head after those blue hues narrowed, and her hands held onto her best friend's feet tightly to make sure she didn't fall. "We gotta land, I need to conserve as much energy as I can in these!" Those risen words met Haru's ears over the loud sound emitting from her boots.

"Fine by me! Let's kick some competition ass!" Enthusiasm, confidence, everything about the brunette screamed good sportsmanship and the feel of the strong gust from the flight let her know just how fast they were going.

Sighing, Uviel nodded, groaned, and dreaded the idea of sprinting with the rest of the class. This is seriously gonna suck... her unenthusiastic monologue caused one eye to twitch irritably.

As soon as the redhead spotted several robots below her during her descent, the girl felt her best friend hop off and watched her land skillfully. Very slowly the cyber-girl touched the ground and those boots were turned off the second she had her chance, but one thing did catch her off-guard...

A strong, green, metallic arm swung from behind her and smacked the back of her head. The force of it was strong enough to send her crashing into the ground in the far distance past the countless robots that surrounded Todo and the group.

"Uviel!" Yukimura screamed out her name when her green hues sensed where she landed and within a moment the brunette dashed after the redhead. She was just in time too, because all of the other robots excluding the one that suddenly bolted after her, got frozen over by a large eruption of ice. What stopped her in her tracks, was the sense of her best friend's movements in the distance.

Out of a large dust cloud jumped the cyber-girl, whose eyes were now glowing brightly. Emotionless, a dead stare, something that Haru couldn't see but could feel something was off... Especially since Uviel didn't even respond. The brunette felt speed pick up and from there she knew her best friend sprinted after her.

Todo's eyes widened at the sight of Uviel running past him. Seeing her glowing gaze with those odd brighter lines around her pupils, he couldn't help but keep his own locked onto her frame. During his run he watched her pass him and saw her pull out a small device from inside the jumpsuit, the front piece was unzipped.

Rushing past the boy and just before reaching the brunette, the girl jumped high into the air with a simple twist of the rod's grip. It extended and blue electric streams sparked between the prongs after sliding the button from under the grip's lip. Skillfully the staff spun above her head with one hand and the moment she descended after the robot that chased her, the girl whirled once in midair. The very rod was swatted out to the side and the force pushed her backward, keeping her from falling by a couple more seconds.

Large waves of blue electricity sparked across the ground and emitted a small quake in the process, making the robot halt in place; not long after, its body shook. The ground itself and the robot body, dispersed into pieces as chunks from the earth rose high. Countless parts of the robot flew through the sky, causing many students behind the crumbled robots from Todo's ice attack, to drop their jaws slightly.

As soon as the redhead landed, she stood there dead in the face until the radiating blue faded and returned her eyes to normal. "H- Huh...?" her very gaze blinked after coming back to her senses but nearly lost her staff that she didn't remember taking out of her outfit, at realizing that she now stood before a destroyed robot. "What happened?!" the girl began to freak when recognition hit and her best friend, who was worried about her, grabbed her arm to continue running.

"I don't know but we need to hurry. Whatever you did-- that was badass, dude!" A beaming smile graced Haru's lips after her response and dragged her best friend down the path to keep her going.

What... Did I do...? Questioning, flabbergasted, Uviel couldn't remember anything that she had just done or how that robot fell into pieces. Her eyes lit up with confused shock as she flailed like a flag in Yukimura's grip, not once did her attention move from the very thing that busted.

Would you look at that?! Not only did Todoroki eliminate all of those robots but Saito pummeled her chaser with a single swing of her staff! The announcer screamed with energy and continued to praise her and the multi-colored boy's single-kill strike.

Unlike the others who got caught by more inferno robots, the girls raced after Todo who was far ahead of them, after the redhead finally snapped out of her state of surprise and ran alongside her friend. However, the one boy who caught her making that strike was none other than the darker redhead, who was trapped along with the other students by those robots. His contemplative red eyes bore into the girl's backside and kept imagining the familiar look he saw moments ago, the look in her gaze that he recalled during that one night...
