“Alright!! You ready for your first patrol after your debut?” Hawks grins at you as you meet him on the roof.

“Hell yeah!! I'm raring to go!!” You grin and slip on your helmet. “Where are we starting?”

“We're going to check out the usual heavy traffic morning commutes. There usually isn't too much crime this time of day. Gotta get you seen in your hero costume today, though. We want the public to know who you are.” He says. “How you feeling about flying? You still want a feather to hold on to?”

“That may be good, I was only flying last night because I wasn't paying attention to the ground.” You laugh. “I'm hoping I'll be fine after a little while.”

“No worries,” Hawks detaches a feather, and it floats in front of you. “Let's fly then, Hydra!”

You create a board and clasp the feather, and the two of you fly off towards the morning commuter traffic. “It's so nice out today!”

“Yep! Gorgeous day to be in the sky!” Hawks agrees. The two of you fly high over the city, enjoying the warm sun and bright blue sky. “You hear any chatter on the radio I set up for you?”

Clicking a few buttons on your helmet, you listen in. “No, nothing so far.”

“Normally I'm more than happy to have a lazy day, but I wanna get you something good today. I'll let you do some more, okay?”

“Thanks! But don't slow down too much! I'm feeling quicker after last night!” You grin.

“That's what I like to hear!” The two of you soar for a while longer, keeping an eye out for any issues. Even with the sun shining so bright, there's a decent amount of humidity in the air. With nothing happening downtown, you venture towards the more residential areas. A group of young preschool children are being walked down the sidewalk to a nearby park, and they all wave up at the two of you.

Their teachers smile up at you, and as they do, one of the children catches your eye. “Hawks–”

BOOM!

Instantly, you and Hawks drop down, and he has all of the children and teachers yanked away from the one you noticed. She had suddenly exploded into flames that cover her entire body. As she screams, you tear water from the air.

“I've got her, Hawks!!” You run towards her as the other children begin crying and screaming. Other passersby stop to watch as the scene unfolds. Water coats your arms and body, and you quickly embrace her in a tight hug, trying to extinguish the flames.

“Oh no!!!” The teachers shout and reach for the young girl, but Hawks keeps them back.

“Is this the first time her quirk has appeared?!” Hawks shouts to them.

“Yes! We knew her parents had fire related quirks, but this is unlike either of theirs!!”

“Please help her!!!”

As Hawks tries to keep the rest away and clear space for you, you keep hugging the girl, coating her in water. “Shh, shh... It's okay, I promise. Are you hurting?” You hold her tight, and wash the flames with water. They disappear momentarily, but quickly reappear as soon as the water moves on.

The girl manages to shake her head, but she's crying and screaming so hard that she can't get any words out. There don't appear to be any burns forming on her skin, and her hair and clothes aren't burning either. She sobs for her parents and you call for Hawks.

“She wants her parents! Do her teachers know where they work?”

“Her father works a few blocks away!!” One of the teachers quickly tells Hawks where to find him, and he flies off.

“I'm counting on you, Hydra!”

“Hawks is going to go get your dad, okay? I need you to look at me, sweetie.” You pull more water from the air, and wrap her body in it, keeping her face free. Flames continue to pour out of her face, and she looks terrified. Realizing she can probably only see a reflection of her own face in your helmet, you lift your hand to remove it. “Here, I'm going to take my helmet off, okay?” As you pull it from your head, one of the teachers shouts at you.

“What are you doing?! She'll burn you!”

“No she won't. It's okay. I know you're not trying to hurt anyone.” You smile at the girl and toss your helmet aside as you kneel in front of her. Her flames haven't exploded out since her initial burst, and although the heat makes you want to vomit in fear due to the reminder of Dabi, you give her a big grin. “It's okay to be scared; I get scared all the time. You're alright, sweetie. I need you to breathe for me, okay? Can you do that?”

The girl nods, and manages to sputter out a small “Okay...!”

As the orange flames flick across her skin, you wipe her face with more water. “Big breath in, okay?” You take an exaggerated breath in and hold it, puffing your cheeks out. The little girl copies you, and you smile and breathe out. “And big breath out! Good! Now, let's do it again.”

She copies you for a minute, and you continue wiping the flames away with water, keeping the rest of her covered in it. “Good... Can you tell me your name, dear?”

“Maki...” She says, finally calming down. As she does, the flames on her face stop coming back as quickly, and only a few small spots flicker with fire.

“You did so good, Maki!” You smile. “My name is Y/n. That was pretty surprising, huh?”

“Yeah...” She sniffles.

“But it's okay now. I've got you, Maki, and your dad will be here soon, okay?” She nods up at you.

“My daddy can hold fire...!” She tells you. “Just like you!”

You chuckle at her comment, and push the remaining flames off of her face with water on your hand. “Perfect! It looks like you got part of his quirk, Maki, because those flames didn't leave any marks on you. Even your clothes are fine!”

“Really...? You mean I'm like daddy?” She looks down. “But I'm all covered in water...”

Laughing, you shake your head. “That's just me. I'm going to take the water away, okay?” She nods, and you dry her off. “Look at that! No burns!” You smile. “That's pretty cool! You can create fire and not get hurt by it!”

“Woah... Like mommy and daddy!” Her eyes sparkle as she looks at her hands.

“What can your mommy do?” You brush a hand over her hair, fixing it up.

“She can make fire balls!” Maki tells you.

“That's super cool! One of my friends can make fire, too, but he's not as lucky as you. His fire can hurt him if he uses too much. What a cool quirk you've gotten!” You smile. As you continue distracting her, you hear Hawks return.

“Maki!!!!” A man rushes forward as Hawks sets him down. “Are you alright?!”

“Daddy!!! I got my quirk!! I'm like you and mommy!!” She ducks out from under your arm and runs up to him.

He quickly scoops her into his arms in a tight embrace. “You're really fine...!” He sighs in relief. “Thank goodness...!”

“It looks like she can create fire and not be burned by it.” You stand up and tell him. “She was very brave!”

“You're the one who extinguished her flames? Thank you so much! Oh, but you're just a kid...?!” He looks between you and Hawks. “You're the girl who took down that Nomu last night, aren't you?”

Nodding, you pat Maki’s head. “Maki here did great. She didn't even burn me or her clothes.”

“Thank you so much for helping my daughter. My wife, too. She was in the area during your fight last night and saw everything up close. I'm glad Hawks picked such a talented student to train with him.”

“She's great, isn't she?” Hawks walks over. “She actually noticed something was up with your daughter before I did from up in the air, and then acted without any hesitation.”

“Thank you, Y/n!!” Maki grins at you. “I wanna be a hero like you!”

A big grin spreads across your face. “You've definitely got a great quirk for it! You gotta be careful with it like you were with me, okay? And only use it with your parents so they can help you learn how to use it. But with a lot of practice, I'm sure you’ll be a great hero one day!”

“Okay!!”
