Stars and Smoke

So basically Jeremy realizes he screws up and goes to make things right.

TW: swearing

Michael sat on his front steps and sighed, letting more smoke escape from his mouth and rubbing his eyes. He should be sleeping, but he couldn't allow himself to be in the silence, alone with his thoughts.

Mainly because he knew that all those thoughts would be about Jeremy...so he smoked them away. He looked up at the night sky and traced the stars with his fingers.

They were so beautiful, yet so far away...like Jeremy. No, Michael wasn't gonna let himself mourn over his asshole of a best friend...but it was true. Jeremy was absolutely gorgeous, he even had a wonderful personality...or did...and at one point he was in Michael's reach, he was there in front of him, now he was so far away...so out of reach.

Yet Michael was still so damn draen to him. Why though? Why did he have to fall for the boy who betrayed him? Why did he have to be so in love with Jeremy he couldn't think of anything else? Why did Jeremy have to be his star?

He wiped away his tears and took in more smoke and released, watching it surround his head slowly.

The faint light that fell on him vanished and he looked up slowly to see...no he was seeing things, Jeremy didn't want to talk to him...but he wasn't leaving.

Michael looked down so he wouldn't let Jeremy see his tears. Why was he still standing there?

Then Michael heard soft sobs and looked back up. In the moonlight, he could make out tears on Jeremy's face, and he regretted looking away.

"I'm...I'm sorry....I'm so...so fucking sorry..." Jeremy whispered, and Michael couldn't help but to walk over to him and hug him. He was supposed to be mad at Jeremy but he couldn't help himself.

The two hugged for what felt like forever before letting go. In the moonlight they could make out the distinct features of the other.

Jeremy's hair was sticking to his face, and Michael gently moved it away so he could see Jeremy's eyes better. The brunette was still crying.

"Hey it's okay Jeremy, quit crying and just...tell me what happened?" Michael asked and Jeremy gently nuzzled into his chest while whimpering.

Jeremy slammed the door to his room and fell to the floor, hands on his face in aggravation.

"Jeremy would you calm down?" The Squip asked and Jeremy sent him a look of pure anger.

"How the fuck can I calm down!? My best friend fucking hates me! Brooke hates me! And Christine rejected me!!" Jeremy yelled and the Squip cut off his vocal chords so he couldn't yell.

"Shut up or your dad will hear!"

"I don't care!" Jeremy thought, tears escaping his green eyes calmly. "I just want my friend back."

"No. Michael is a link to Jeremy 1.0, which you are far beyond, besides, I can't have him ruining our progress."

"What progress? I mean if me becoming a dick is progress."

"Well you're popular now." The Squip's cheeks were purple and it was glitching more than usual.

"Wait...why did you make me leave Michael? I could've gotten him a Squip and we could've been cool together!" The Squip was trying to turn itself off. Jeremy spotted a screen that the Squip had up and his eyes widened. “You...you were trying to sabotage us?”

“He was threatening your popularity Jeremy. He can not be cool!”

“No, he is cool...you're the one who can't be cool, you have to use me for whatever fucking plan you're pulling.” The Squip proceeded to shock Jeremy violently, causing him to fall over.

The brunette reached for his jacket pocket, which was at the end of the bed, and grabbed his phone out. He called Michael, no answer. He texted, no reply, he crawled his way to the door, ignoring the shocks that the Squip was giving him.

He knew his dad had beer in the kitchen, if he could get to that, he could deactivate the Squip long enough to get to Michael.

“Wait...you had more alcohol?” Michael asked and Jeremy nodded, even more tears escaping his eyes. “Jeremy... c'mere…” Michael held the shorter male's hand, leading him to the backyard in which twin swings were located.

The two sat on their own swings, not speaking for a good minute.

“Jeremy...why didn't you tell me he manipulating you...and abusing you…” Jeremy didn't reply, he just continued looking at the ground, crying. “Jere you can tell me. I'm not gonna be mad, I just need to know….”

“...he broke me Michael...h-he broke me….told me how ugly I w-was...terrible...how I made him w-wanna die... I'm just...tired of hating myself... but...if the thing that's supposed me can't fix me...who can…?” Jeremy's voice cracked and Michael got off his swing and went over to Jeremy, gently pushing him.

“I might not be able to fix what he broke...but I'll try my best to heal you…” Michael whispered sweetly, and Jeremy's tears fell harder.

“Why d-did I leave you…?” Jeremy asked softly and Michael wrapped arms around him and held him close.

“It doesn't matter anymore...you're here now...and I'm glad…” Jeremy looked up at Michael and smiled.

“Do...Do you forgive me?”

“Yes... I'll always forgive you Jeremy...cause I love you…” Michael gently kissed the side of Jeremy's temple, causing him to turn blood red. “And if nobody wants you...I do…because I love being with you...if you'll have me…”

“Michael...I might be slightly drunk...and I might be emotionally unstable...but I can say without a doubt that I'm glad you love me…” Jeremy held Michael's hand tightly, holding it above his heart and smiling. “And...I can say that I love you too…”

“I missed you Jeremy...I'm glad you're back…”

I wrote this on a bus heading downtown Chattanooga on a field trip after going crazy looking for the Five Guys fast food and getting my food late

Let's just say, I'm glad to back, and I'm listening to "The Hamilton Polka" rn
