Chapter 5
The 'Bots lowered their blasters. Zoey looked over the team before realizing Ratchet and Smokescreen were nowhere to be seen. "Where's Smokescreen?" she asked. The 'Bots turned to look at each other before looking back at Zoey. "He was injured in the battle against the Decepticons in Russia," Arcee replied. Instantly Zoey's eyes widened. She ran by the 'Bots to where Ratchet was working on repairing a barely-conscious Smokescreen. "He needs Energon, but the stores are depleted..... Scrap!" Ratchet muttered. Zoey instantly reached into one of her pockets and grabbed a small handful of its contents. "Will this work?" she asked. Ratchet looked down at Zoey before his optics traveled to the Energon. "That most definitely won't do anything for him! He needs more than that!" Ratchet huffed. "Well, I think I can fix that!" Zoey shot back. She put the Energon on the floor and took a few steps back. Her right servo turned into the machine and she aimed it at the pile. "What are you doing?!" Ratchet exclaimed as she charged up the blaster. She didn't reply as she blasted the Energon but, instead of destroying it, the pile grew to a large pile of full-sized cubes.
The blaster turned back into a servo as she turned to Ratchet. The 'Bots and humans were staring at her in shock. "Now can you help him?" she asked. Ratchet quickly shook himself before grabbing a cube. "Yes. This will help him," he replied. He took a few cubes and turned them into their liquid form and putting it into a large vial. Ratchet then hooked up the vial to Smokescreen and the glowing liquid started to flow into the injured 'Bot. "He'll be fine. He just needs rest," Ratchet said. Zoey looked up at her guardian with worry clearly etched on her face despite knowing he'd be fine. Ratchet sighed before reaching down a servo to the girl. Zoey stepped onto his servo and he then lifted her up, placing her down on the berth beside Smokescreen. Zoey nodded her thanks to the medic before turning to her injured guardian. She sat down next to his shoulder, gently pressing her servo to it. Ratchet sighed before turning and walking over to where the other 'Bots were. "Optimus?" Ratchet asked. Optimus nodded. The two turned away from the group and walked away. They needed to discuss some things in private.
As the two walked away, the other 'Bots turned to the humans. "So, what do you wanna do?" Bulkhead asked. "I say band practice!" Miko replied. "Miko, something quiet. Smokescreen needs to rest, and I have no doubt Zoey needs some as well," Arcee pointed out. "Oh, right," Miko said. "Why don't we just, ummmm, play some card games?" Jack suggested, holding up a stack of cards. "Ugh, that's boring! I wanna go for some dune-dashing! Whaddya say, Bulk?" Miko asked. "Miko, I think it's best we stay in base right now. Especially after what happened with Smokescreen," Bulkhead replied. They started to quietly argue about what to do. Meanwhile, Zoey was gently resting her head against Smokescreen's shoulder. She gazed at Smokescreen's faceplate, her eyes full of worry. She wasn't going to leave him until he woke up. Eventually, Zoey grew tired. Her eyes closed and with a final bit of concentration, she transformed back to her human form. She was now wearing different clothing, so it looked almost exactly like her Cybertronian form, but actual clothing. She no longer had anything covering her servos, while the dress itself was pretty much the same, just not made out of metal. The leggings had turned into socks that went to just below the end of the dress, a little under mid-thigh. Her boots turned into a combat boot style but were otherwise the same. The mask that was over her face ceased to exist, but her hair was still in its braid (Picture above. Made it myself. I actually tried out a new style of shading on it, comment if it looks good and I'll probably continue using the style). With a final yawn, she fell asleep.
Smokescreen's optics slowly opened. He groaned, trying to sit up when he was pushed down by a servo on his chassis. "Ep ep ep. You just survived those serious wounds, but they'll still affect you for a while. You need some more rest," Ratchet said. "B-But I thought the Energon stores were depleted...?" Smokescreen whispered. "Well, let's just say that's a story for another time. Now, get some rest," Ratchet replied. "How can I when Zoey's still in Megatron's clutches....?" Smokescreen whispered. Ratchet looked over to the humans' area, where the couch was taken up by an orange-haired girl. "She managed to escape the Nemesis. But you don't need to worry about her now. She's completely fine, just needs rest. Just like you. Now, don't try and get up again until I say so," Ratchet said. Smokescreen's helm fell back onto the berth as Ratchet walked away to go back to his work. Smokescreen looked back at Zoey for a moment before closing his optics, once again falling asleep.
When Smokescreen woke up again, a few hours had passed. Ratchet was deep in thought as he worked, the other 'Bots were nowhere to be seen. But that wasn't what Smokescreen was worried about. Sitting next to his shoulder was Zoey, half-asleep. "Hey, Zoey," he whispered. The girl stirred but didn't wake. "Zoey," he whispered again. Zoey sat up and rubbed her eyes, yawning. She looked at Smokescreen and instantly a smile spread across her face. She wrapped her arms around the 'Bot's neck, hugging him as tightly as she could. "It's good to see you too, Zoey," Smokescreen said. "I was so worried about you! I didn't know what happened after they took me away, and when I found out what happened I was even more worried!" Zoey quietly exclaimed. "Well, it's okay now. I'm fine," Smokescreen replied. "Didn't I tell you that you had to get some rest?" Ratchet asked, looking over at them. "Sorry, but I feel fine. A bit sore, but fine," Smokescreen replied. Ratchet's gaze didn't waver as he crossed his arms. "Hey, they say the best treatment is time spent with friends," Zoey pointed out. Ratchet sighed before turning away, throwing his arms up. "Might as well, since Smokescreen's never gonna go back to sleep," he sarcastically muttered.
He went back to work and Smokescreen and Zoey immediately began questioning each other of what happened. Eventually, Smokescreen reached the end of his story. "And I wake up, somehow Ratchet had enough Energon to patch me up, and here we are," he finished. Zoey bit her lip. She still had to explain what had happened to her, mostly the fact that she was a Techno-Organic and she was the one who had gotten the Energon. "Well, on the subject of the Energon, I'm kinda the one who got it," she said, rubbing the back of her head. Instantly Smokescreen's optics widened. "How did you get enough for me?" he asked. "That's... a bit harder to explain," Zoey replied. "I have time," Smokescreen said. Zoey looked at the ground. With a sigh, she looked back up at Smokescreen and started to explain.
"After the 'Cons figured out I lied, Megatron told Knockout he could experiment the effects of Energon on a human body," Zoey started. Smokescreen immediately flinched. "They thought my systems would overwork themselves to the point where they'd overwork themselves, then fail. Instead, after multiple injections, I became something else," Zoey continued. Smokescreen raised an optic ridge. "What do you mean?" he asked. Zoey sighed before closing her eyes, feeling the strange feeling of transforming. When her eyes opened, Smokescreen was looking at her in complete, utter shock. "Z-Zoey?" he asked. The mask on her face retracted, revealing her real face. "Yeah... It's me..." she whispered. Smokescreen's optics were the widest they've ever been, and his jaw was hanging down. "Apparently I'm not human like I always believed I was. I'm actually a Techno-Organic. Both of my parents came from Cybertron, but for some reason, human DNA was injected into me, turning me from a Cybertronian to a Techno-Organic," Zoey finished. Smokescreen didn't say anything. He was too speechless to do so. "Smokescreen...?" Zoey hesitantly asked.
"THIS IS AWESOME!" Smokescreen exclaimed. "You think it's cool?!" Zoey asked. "Frag yeah!" Smokescreen replied. "Hey! Language!" Zoey said, hitting his helm. "Ow! Jeez, now that you're a Techno-Organic your hits hurt," Smokescreen said, rubbing his helm. Zoey smiled. "Sorry, guess I don't know my own strength," she replied. "And you can figure that out in some sparring matches," Bulkhead said, walking up with Bumblebee and Arcee. "Though, if you're too scared to, that's perfectly fine," he teased. Instantly Zoey raised an eyebrow. "Ooooh I'm gonna kick your tailpipe all the way back to Megatron's ship," Zoey replied. "Big words. You gonna back it up?" Bulkhead asked. Instantly Zoey jumped off the berth and walked towards the big 'Bot. "You have no idea what I'm capable of. Heck, even I don't know! Now, let's find out, shall we?" she asked. The three 'Bots with Zoey walked out of the main room to a training room, leaving Smokescreen to get some rest. And to make sure he did, Zoey threatened to strap him down to the table if he wouldn't get some rest so he couldn't move. Let's just say Smokescreen had hastily nodded before trying to get some rest. When the group reached the training room, Bulkhead and Zoey moved to the sparring mat. "Alright, rules of the sparring match. No weapons of any sort. Only use hand-to-hand combat, and melee weapons are to not be used. Whoever is knocked down for five seconds loses," Arcee said. "You ready, tiny?" Bulkhead asked. "Bring it on," Zoey replied.
After the signal was given, Bulkhead rushed towards Zoey. She quickly ducked out of his way. After Bulkhead recovered, he once again ran towards Zoey. Said girl ducked the incoming punch before dodging all the other punches coming. The two were standing on opposite sides of the mat. Bulkhead was the one to make the move, running forward. Zoey ran forward and ducked to avoid the incoming punch, sliding along the ground between Bulkhead's legs. She quickly stopped and jumped up before running towards him again. Bulkhead had just turned around when he saw Zoey take a flying leap at him, uppercutting him. The force sent Bulkhead stumbling back. He tried to regain his footing, but in vain, and he fell over. After trying to get up and failing, the match was won by Zoey. The mask on her face retracted as she walked over to the 'Bot. "Not bad, Zoey," Arcee said. "Yeah. I didn't see that punch 'till it was too late. And by the name of Primus that hurt!" Bulkhead added. "Sorry about that. But you basically just signed a document that said, 'You're about to get hurt badly since you don't know what you're going up against,' " Zoey laughed. "Well, those 'Cons are in for a surprise when she goes out to help us kick their tailpipes," Bumblebee said. (BTW, underlined text is what Bumblebee says)
"Heck yeah," Zoey agreed. Silence filled the room after those words. "Wait, did I just hear Bee talk?" Zoey asked. "Maybe," Bee replied. "AHHHH BEE I UNDERSTAND YOU!" Zoey exclaimed. Instantly she started jumping up and down while her energon blue eyes glowed in glee. Bee started to dance, happy someone else could understand him. "Does it work when you're a human?" Bee asked. "Let's find out!" Zoey replied. After a quick transformation back to her human form, she looked up at Bumblebee. "I really hope this works," Bee said. "AHHHH! BEE I STILL UNDERSTAND YOU!" Zoey exclaimed. Instantly the two started bouncing up and down, making Bulkhead laugh and Arcee smile. The alarm suddenly blared, making the four instantly stop what they were doing and run to the main room. Zoey managed to keep up as well, despite being in human form. When they ran into the main room, Optimus was standing behind Ratchet as said medic was looking at the screen. "Ratchet, what is it?" Optimus asked. "An emergency beacon from a crashed pod. Unknown origin. There could be injured 'Bots," Ratchet replied. "And in case of that, we'll need your medical kit. Send a Groundbridge," Optimus said. After Ratchet started up the Groundbridge, the 'Bots started to walk towards it.
"Hey! What about me?" Zoey asked, stopping the 'Bots. They all turned to her. "Zoey, we don't know what could be there. And you still need to get used to your new abilities. Stay here," Optimus replied. The 'Bots turned back to the Groundbridge and walked towards it. Zoey glared at them. 'I may be new to these abilities, but I'm still coming with! Even if I have to sneak along!' she thought. Zoey quickly followed the 'Bots silently in her human form. Her boots would've made the same loud thud as the Autobots if she were in her Cybertronian form, so to retain stealth, she had to be in human form until she was through the Groundbridge. By the time Raf, Miko, and Jack realized Zoey had pulled a Miko, the Groundbridge was closed. Smokescreen was in recharge, so he didn't realize what was going on. Zoey quickly hid behind a tree when she was on the other side of the Groundbridge. After a quick look at her surroundings, she knew it'd be easy to hide. They were currently in a large forest with a mixture of some types of fir trees and maple, oak, and birch trees. There was the faint sound of running water, signifying a nearby stream or river. Zoey quickly started to follow the 'Bots, staying well out of sight, but close enough to hear what they were saying and see them.
Eventually, the 'Bots came upon a small ship. It was large enough to accommodate multiple 'Bots, but not many. Probably three or four at most. The engines were completely destroyed, meaning the ship wasn't going anywhere without having the engines fully replaced. Optimus led the team forward with slow, cautious steps, blasters out. They didn't know what they were dealing with, and they were prepared. After reaching the door to the ship, Optimus opened it and led the way through the empty and dark halls of the ship. "Ugh, scrap! We need to get this ship back online, now!" a voice said. Instantly Optimus held up one servo, signaling to the 'Bots to slow down and stay quiet. "I'm trying, Jazz! But the engine room got hit pretty bad! It's taking a while for the systems to restart!" a second voice replied. The 'Bots crept closer to the open door where the voices were coming from. But, accidentally, Bulkhead lightly bumped into the wall, sending a piece of scrap metal from the ceiling falling onto his helm. "Ouch!" he exclaimed. Instantly everyone froze. "Oh scrap," Zoey whispered. She had snuck aboard the ship and was watching what was happening from the air duct. All of a sudden, three 'Bots ran out of the room and aimed their blasters at the 'Bots.
