Chapter 11

"Zoey! Zoey! Zoey, please answer!" Smokescreen pleaded. There was no reply whatsoever from the girl. "Ratchet, you have to find her!" Smokescreen said in worry. "I'm trying to pinpoint the location of her phone, so calm down," Ratchet replied. A few tense moments later yielded a location on the screens. "Her phone is located in the Black Forest, Germany," Ratchet said. With that, he opened up a Groundbridge. Ratchet ran through the portal with Arcee, Bumblebee, and Smokescreen. They jumped through the portal and aimed their blasters, making sure there were no 'Cons. "All clear," Arcee said. With that, they put away their blasters. Smokescreen's optics fell on a small form laying on the ground, half-hidden behind a tree about thirty feet away. He ran over and kneeled down, picking up and small form. Zoey's eyes were closed. "Ratchet!" Smokescreen called to the medic. Instantly Ratchet ran over and kneeled beside Smokescreen. "I can't look at her right now. Come on," Ratchet said. The four ran through the portal, Bee being the last because he picked up Zoey's phone.

When they came through, the others watched as Ratchet took Zoey from Smokescreen and ran over to the medical berth. He ran a quick scan as the others held Smokescreen back from going to check on his charge. A few moments later June Darby hopped out of her car and ran over to the berth where Ratchet was trying to figure out what to do. He turned around to see June holding her bag of medical supplies and he lowered his servo, allowing June to step onto it. He placed the woman on the medical berth and she ran over to Zoey, kneeling beside her. "She has a concussion. I don't know what to do for that," Ratchet admitted. June nodded and began rummaging through her bag. She produced a small vial full of a clear liquid and a needle. She extracted the liquid from the vial into the needle before quickly wiping down the vein on the girl's shoulder. June then injected the liquid into Zoey's vein before putting the needle on a separate tray. She quickly dabbed a small cloth to the small amount of energon/blood coming from the place where the needle had been. An IV was stuck into the crook of Zoey's arm and a blanket was wrapped around her. They put the girl on a wheeling hospital bed and wheeled her to a separate room and turned off the lights.

"She needs rest. Nobody is to visit her until she wakes up. No video games, TV, sports, or too much socializing. That'll only make it worse for her. Now, she's under close monitoring, just to make sure she recovers. But for right now, the best thing she needs is rest," June explained. "Thank you for your help, Ms. Darby. It could have gone bad very quickly without you," Ratchet said. "You're welcome. And please, call me June," June replied. With that, the group left the room, leaving the sleeping Zoey to rest.

A day later, Zoey groaned. Slowly she forced her eyes open, finding herself in a large and dark room. "Ugh. W-Where am I?" she asked quietly. Slowly she moved the blanket off of her and swung her legs over to the right side of the bed. The bed itself was more like a hospital bed, and there was a small IV stuck in the crook of her elbow. Zoey took out the IV and slowly stood up, leaning against the bed for support. After a few moments, she started to take hesitant steps forward, making sure she wouldn't fall. She eventually reached the door and she tapped a few buttons into the keypad--every room had two keypads, one for the 'Bots, the other for the humans--and the door opened. Zoey walked out into the hall and found the lights were dimmed, the hall empty. For some reason, it was strangely silent. No sound of training, Miko playing guitar, Bulkhead accidentally smashing something of Ratchet's, or anything else. She walked along the halls until she came to the main room. The 'Bots were all there, sitting silently with the humans, while Ratchet worked at the screens. The humans were teaching the 'Bots something about Earth, and Zoey's enhanced hearing could just barely make out what they were saying.

"Since it's Friday, we're gonna have a sleepover," Raf said. "What's a sleepover?" Bulkhead asked. "Well, it's when a group of friends all get together at one place and spend the night there. They play games, eat sweets, and tell spooky stories. The thing about a sleepover, no one sleeps," Miko replied. "Then why is it called a sleepover?" Smokescreen asked in confusion. "Sorry, beats me," Miko replied, shrugging her shoulders with a smile. Zoey smirked as a plan formed in her head. Her outfit transformed to her Cybertronian-human outfit (clothing that looks like her Cybertronian form, but she's in her human form). She silently crept along the wall until she came to a ladder on the wall. The ladder was basically just the wall, but it had plenty of places for hand and footholds. Zoey climbed up the wall until she came to a ventilation shaft. She went into the vent and navigated it, eventually coming to a small panel. She took off the panel and started messing with the wires. She knew what she was doing so she'd be able to repair it later. With a small shock between two different wires, the lights in the base were shut off. Screams and shouts filled the base as the base went dark.

Zoey crept along the vent until she came to an exit, just above the main group of 'Bots and humans. Ratchet was trying to figure out what was wrong with Optimus nearby while the other 'Bots stayed with the humans, using the lights they had to illuminate the room. "What happened?" Arcee asked. "Ugh, there's been interference with the lights. I won't be able to isolate the problem until morning," Ratchet said. "So we have no lights?" Jack asked. "Other than our headlights, no," Ratchet replied. "This is perfect! It'll be like a sleepover outside, but we're inside!" Miko exclaimed. Zoey smiled. Of course, Miko would be like that. "So, what do we do?" Bulkhead asked. "Let's start with scary stories!" Miko replied. Zoey smirked. Perfect. The 'Bots and humans all gathered around in a circle and Miko held a flashlight under her chin, lighting up parts of her face while the other parts were heavily shadowed, making her look quite dramatic and creepy.

"One night, on a night like tonight, a group of friends was spending the night together," Miko started, her voice sounding a lot deeper and darker than it should. "Ooh, like right now," Smokescreen said. "Yes, now, I'm the one telling the story. Be quiet," Miko replied. Smokescreen shut up after that. "Anyways, they were all just playing a game called truth-or-dare. Suddenly, the lights went out. The group was home alone, as the parents were out to celebrate their anniversary. They hugged each other in fear. They jumped at every sound. A little knocking at the window-" Miko cut off as Bulkhead looked around wildly. "Did you hear that?" he asked. "Bulk, I think you're just being paranoid," Arcee replied. Zoey had tapped a little on the metal walls of the vent, spooking Bulkhead, who just so happened to be right below the vent. "Like I was saying, they jumped at every sound. A little knocking at the window, which was just the tree branch tapping against the window. The group screamed as lightning struck outside, the thunder clapping loudly-" Miko cut off again. This time she had been cut off by a sudden shine of light that lasted for less than a second, closely followed by a loud clap that sounded like thunder.

The 'Bots and humans jumped. "O-kay. Anyways, a small creaking came from downstairs. Curious, the group left the room and started to walk down the stairs, coming to the first floor. They walked right by the kitchen when they screamed at the sound of a loud clack-" Miko once again was cut off. This time the vent above Bulkhead had fallen off the wall, falling onto the mech's helm. "AAHH!" he screamed. After realizing it was just a vent, Bulkhead chuckled nervously. "Heh, just a vent," he said. "The group quickly turned and saw a pan had fallen from the ceiling where it had hung. But nothing could've knocked it down. They all unanimously agreed to leave the house and head to a different friend's house, but the doors and windows were all locked. They desperately tried to push against the door when they saw a puff of smoke floating towards them from down the hall. Claw marks ran along the walls as the smoke slowly floated closer toward them-" Miko was once again cut off as they heard a sound of nails against a wall. The group huddled closer together, even the fearless Autobot leader was starting to look scared. "A-Anyways, the smoke started to take shape. It formed a transparent girl who looked like she was from the eighteen hundreds. 'You cannot escape. You shall suffer the same fate I did,' the ghost said. The group screamed as the ghost floated towards them, hands outstretched, a sinister smile on her face. 'End of the line,' the ghost said-" Miko cut off.

"How dare you make a joke out of me?"

The group stiffened before slowly turning to the middle of the room. Floating there was a young girl, probably around Raf or Miko's age, her long hair floating around her head. She wore a ripped dress that looks like something from the eighteen hundreds. "You tell that story at night, never realizing that every time you tell it, you only anger me further. My revenge will be sought out tonight," the ghost said. Ironhide quickly aimed his blasters at the ghost, though he was shaking along with the others. "Y-You don't scare me! You're just a story!" he said. The ghost's eyes darkened and she slowly faded away. "Whoa... Did that happen?" Jazz asked. All of a sudden, the ghost appeared in front of Ironhide's faceplate, extremely close. She screamed and this made everyone jump back in fear. "Heh, I could just finish off you all, but that would be too much work. Besides, I'm sensing another person in here, asleep, the perfect target," the ghost laughed. Smokescreen's optics widened in horror as the ghost disappeared with one last laugh. "Zoey!" he exclaimed, jumping up and running down the hall, trying to reach Zoey's room before the ghost. He quickly ran into the room, shining his headlights for any sign of the ghost or Zoey. His optics fell on the hospital bed, though it was empty.

"ZOEY!" he cried. The ghost appeared and Smokescreen immediately aimed his blasters at her. "Don't worry too much. She is fine, though I've hidden her somewhere in this base. You must find her before midnight otherwise my revenge will be satisfied with her," the ghost said, disappearing. The others had already reached the room and had heard everything. Quickly they split into teams of at least two or three. They searched every room in base, looking in every nook and cranny. Nothing. They grouped up back in the main room, trying to desperately think of places where Zoey could be. That's when Drift's optics gazed at the vent cover before he looked up at the now open vent. "She could be in the vents," he said. Everyone turned to look at the open vent Drift was looking at. "I'll go," Smokescreen said. "How?" Miko asked. "This way," Smokescreen replied, transforming into his vehicle mode and his holoform hopped out of the car. He hopped onto Optimus's servo, surprisingly not fangirling, and was lifted up to the open vent. He crawled in it, starting his search for Zoey.

About an hour later, Smokescreen was taking a small break from the past hour of crawling. He was resting for a few moments when he heard a whisper. "You only have two minutes left," the ghost whispered. Smokescreen quickly started crawling through the vents, desperately trying to find Zoey. Almost two minutes passed and a bloodcurdling scream echoed through the vents. "ZOEY!" Smokescreen cried. He followed the scream and he came to a larger vent area. It could fit a few of his vehicle mode on the ground and the ceiling went up to about the same height as Arcee. Laying in the middle of the room was a young woman, her body unmoving with red splotches covering her. "No..." Smokescreen whispered, running over to the young woman and kneeling beside her. Zoey's eyes were closed, her chest not rising and falling to signal she was breathing. "Oh my Primus no..." Smokescreen whispered, holding the girl close to him. He was her guardian and he failed to protect her. Suddenly, a small giggle echoed through the room.

"The look on your face when you came in here was priceless."
