Prologue
Dipper swam down to the bottom of the ocean dragging his hand along the ocean floor Mabel looked up from her spot from behind the seaweed. She watched as Dipper dug up the sand and grabbed at something before swimming off. Making sure that no one was around first, she beckoned her pet fish to follow her before trailing her brown-headed brother.
Dipper swam through the sea, making sure to avoid the small groups of other sirens that rarely passed him. It seemed as if everyone in this ocean had a friend except for him.
He spotted the small entrance to his cave and sped up. He was almost there! The brunette swam into the entrance and hauled himself onto the ledge. He smiled as he recited the spell that he had memorized by heart. He felt his tail separate and looked down to see his legs. Getting up and stumbling a bit Dipper readjusted to walking. As he stood up he stuck a hand into his pockets, of the clothes he totally did not steal, and pulled out the shell that he had before.
The cave that he was in was his cave that he stored all kinds of shells and rocks. And most sirens weren't really fond of walking around or just didn't bother to learn the spell, he didn't get many surprise visits.
Dipper found a spot on the shelves of rock that he had carved and placed the shell down on it. Dipper went to the far side of the cave and grabbed the notebook that he kept. In fact, there were many.
Dipper took a liking to writing in the English language that the humans above used and quickly learned it himself. And he definitely took pride in his notebooks. Especially since it was so hard for him to get them down in his cave and keeping them dry. He grabbed a pencil and jotted down something really quick.
It was a one worded poem that made him instantly erase the word. In his realm, this word didn't exist. In fact, it was frowned upon. A siren that fell in love with a human was deemed weak. It only existed for the humans above. For those who's lifespan wouldn't and couldn't match his.
LOVE
Dipper put the book and the pencil down and turned away from them. He quickly jumped back into the water, allowing his red shirt and shorts to disappear and his tail to form. He always wondered where his clothes went whenever he was in the water. He shrugged it off and swam back towards the way that he came.
Mabel watched as he jumped back into the water and swam away. Now was the perfect time to see what Dipper did whenever he was gone. She swam up into the little hole and saw the little ledge and pulled herself up on it. After wracking her brain for a few seconds she finally spoke the spell turning her tail into a pair of legs. She looked down at the sweater and skirt and thanked her past self for having such a good fashion sense.
Mabel walked through the cave admiring all of the things on the shelves, careful not to touch anything. She stood in awe at all of the things that were there. It must have taken years to collect all of these things. And don't even get Mabel started on carving out all of the shelves. She finally reached the end of the cave and looked at the notebooks stacked in a neat pile. That seemed to be like Dipper. He was always organizing something. Mabel, being the curious siren that she was, looked through one and flipped through it. Most of it was unreadable chicken scratch, though what she could read, shocked her. On the last page was a word erased but written in so darkly that she could still see it.
She dropped the book back down. The word LOVE was etched into the book. Mabel couldn't believe her eyes. She turned around and jumped back into the water.
She would not be returning to the cave.
And she needed to have a serious talk with her brother.
