Chapter Five

You continued sitting at the stairs for what felt like an eternity. You stared off mindlessly into an abyss of hatred and disgust for yourself. You didn't feel like you deserved to cry, or feel sad for your actions. You knew what you were capable of, but you were the one that didn't stop yourself.

"(Y/N)?" A voice called from behind. You checked behind your shoulder to see his infamous brown jacket before flying off of the ground.

"Lance," you froze. Were you supposed to apologize, because if you were, that clearly wasn't the direction your mind was going.

"(Y/N), can I-" you took a noticeably large step back away from him.

"I'm leaving," you blurted.

"What? Why would you do something dumb like that?" He sounded offended.

"Don't call it dumb when it's the smartest thing I could do right now," you pleaded.

"Why on Earth would you want to leave?" He asked.

"Are you serious?" You remarked. Was he oblivious to the fact that he could have died if someone hadn't pulled you off of him sooner? "You almost died, I could have killed you!"

"But the point here is, you didn't," he smiled, trying to add some positivity to the situation.

"I don't get why you're trying to be optimistic?" You snarled.

"Because you showed us how freaking cool you are, and how skilled you are with a dagger!" he added.

"You thought that was cool, you could've died!" You barked.

"It shows that you're hardcore, you know how to fight, and how to win," he supported.

"Lance! Are you not listening to the words that are coming out of my mouth! You. Could. Have. Died. And it would have been my fault!" You don't know what came over you, but every feeling you'd felt when that dagger was put in your hand came back. You pushed his shoulder back, causing him to stumble for his balance.

"Woah, woah calm down! I'm trying to help!" He assured.

"There's nothing you can do to help me!" You yelled in response. You walked past him, but was stopped by his sudden grasp on your arm.

"You can't just run away from your problems!" He urged.

"You have no right to tell me what I can and can't do! Just, let go of me!" You tugged your arm to lessen his grip, but it somehow made it stronger.

"Let me help you," he offered. He let go of your arm, but your legs stiffened, It was like your body was telling you not to leave. You turned to face him, but kept your head low.

"I'm a lost cause, you know that," you sighed.

"I don't know that," he noted.

"I'm a puzzle that can't be solved, so stop trying," you groaned.

"I'm not one who is known to give up easily," he smirked.

"Why?" You asked.

"Why what?" He responded.

"Why do you keep trying to help me?" You whimpered.

"Because, you deserve for someone to care about you," he ushered.

"Why do you say that?" You wrinkled your nose.

"I know you aren't here by choice, but think about all those people you helped, all those aliens that were able to escape Zarkon's prisons in your previous attempts to free them," he smiled. You'd forgotten about that. You were so caught up in the castle and everyone you'd just met. You'd forgotten about what you lived for, to free innocent people from Zarkon's reign. But, what were you doing now?

You were trying to leave a group of people who were willingly risking their lives to save these people. If you weren't helping, you were hurting. But, if you stayed, would that be worse than leaving? How would you know if you didn't try to find out.

"Okay," you spoke.

"Okay? Okay what?" He asked

"Okay. I'll stay."
