Chapter 4
So I had A really tough time with this chapter and if anyone has any suggestions on how to make this chapter flow better, let me know!
Bryant
I don't know if it's a good thing Tes's powers are getting stronger or not. On one hand, she is picking fights with my sister who is ten times stronger than her right now and doesn't care who she hurts. On the other hand, she's not human, so I don't have to worry about her getting killed because of my love for her. Then again messing with my sister no matter what you are can get you killed.
"Tes, you are a part of our world now. I know you're scared and this is all new for you, but I'll be right by your side through it all."
I look over at Tes, and her face is the picture of shock.
"No! I'm not your Queen. I'm not ruling over anything, and as far as I've witnessed, this place is freaking crazy. I want no part in it." Tes stands back up and puts her hands on her hips.
All her bandages are gone now, and she is completely healed. When I found her I was sure she was going to die, but Tes is a fighter, and she doesn't give up for anything.
"When can I go home? I'm healed, so what's the deal?"
Tes walks over to the window where sunlight is streaming in. She looks so beautiful in the light, and her eyes are sparkling as she looks at me expectantly.
"Tes, you're staying the rest of the weekend. You need to train, and first up is basic self-defense, which is not going to be taught by me. You're going to learn from the best fighter in Altearis. Her name is Seelina."
"What? Why? I'm not leading anything!" Tes shouts at me, she seems to be getting irritated. I don't know what to say, I look at my sister for help.
"Listen, Tes," Scar says with disgust in her voice. "You're together with my brother, he is the king of Altearis, and you will be his queen. If you deny your position you will be considered a threat because your powers are great beyond compare. We'll be forced to destroy you. Not that I would mind doing that, but my brother here would put up a fight."
She's right. I wouldn't let anyone hurt Tes as long as I'm breathing.
Scar sighs in defeat. "And we need you, without you we will be weak. Bryant would be weak, something dangerous is coming for all of us. There are lives on the line here; I know you'd rather be a dumb human teenager, but life isn't fair."
"Ok, alright. I'll do it, I don't want anyone to die because of my selfishness. I'm sorry," Tes says, accepting her new life. Scar softens at Tes's response.
"Dang, and I was hoping you'd reject," Scar says playfully.
"Shut up, Scar." Tes tries to look angry, but I can see that she's trying not to smile.
Well, I guess now would be a good time to take her to Seelina so she can train. Tes doesn't play any sports so I'm sure she isn't in shape, which might be a problem. For Tes, not Seelina. Seelina will work you as hard as she can. Her job is very important to the survival of Stameions and Altearis.
"Alright, let's go, Tes. We should leave for Seelina's now. Your training is going to start today." I walk over to Tes and grab her hand. "Goodbye Scar."
Tes opens her mouth to say something as we're leaving. The look on her face tells me it's going to be a snotty comment.
"Goodbye, Sk-"
I slap my hand over her mouth. Boy, this girl does not know when stop. I drag her outside, and as soon as we get there she bites me! I look at my hand seeing she has drawn blood too.
"Tes, you're crazy. Are you trying to get yourself killed by my sister?" She is stressing the hell out of me today. I can't handle these ups and downs.
Tes looks around thoughtfully for a moment then speaks.
"I'm not afraid of her," Tes says with too much confidence.
"You don't know how she is, Tes. Scar will not hesitate to seriously hurt you. In fact, I think she likes injuring people. Especially when she's angry. Scar used to be good when our parents were alive, but when they were murdered she turned on everyone and everything. I tried to help her, but she would stray further away from me each time I tried." I look at the ground.
"I miss my twin sister, who was sweet and smiled all the time."
Tes pulls me closer to her as we walk. "I'm sorry, Bryant. I'll try to be good."
"Alright." I hope she will. We have more important things to worry about, like my grandma's visions.
Tes stops and smells a flower. "Wow, this place is so beautiful. This forest looks like it goes on for ages."
"It does. We try not to disturb the wood because the land is sacred, powerful. We have shops and homes, but we only build what we need."
"That is wonderful! I wish you had told me about this place earlier. I love the woods." Tes twirls on the path we're walking on.
I chuckle. "That's the Stameion in you." I sneak looks at her. I can't believe she's finally mine, and all these years, I thought it was impossible.
"It's hard to believe a place so amazing could harbor such dangerous things," Tes adds. We walk in silence for a few minutes, then Tes speaks up again. "Bryant, tell me everything there is to know about Altearis. I mean, if I'm going to rule it I want to know more about it."
"There's so much, I might forget some things."
"That's ok. Tell me." Tes is gazing around the woods, her eyes filled with immense wonder.
So, I launch into the story of Altearis. I tell her about the fairies that love to play with girl's hair and are usually around the fruit and flowers. I tell her about the demented evil creatures like the Fangles that resemble giant bulldogs, Ratagons with their rat faces and mammoth bodies. Cresars that look like hippos and are Altearis's gentle giants. The wild dogs and cats, who can be vicious, but most are loving. I tell her about the mer-people that live in this unbelievably blue lake that seems to go on forever. I tell her about the beautiful sunsets and sunrise and how we have no moon, and we don't know why.
I tell her about the great food and the feasts and parties and festivals. Lastly, I tell her about Stameions. Tes listens with wide eyes, ooing and ahing. When I'm done, she stares of into space, most likely imagining it all. Then she slowly comes back.
"Wow, one day you've got to show me everything. It all sounds so wonderful," she says in awe. "Can we go to one of the parties?"
"Yes, there's one almost every day. They are not like regular human parties though. Girls wear flowing colorful dresses, guys wear suits and sweaters made from the finest materials."
I pull Tes towards me and spin her around as she giggles.
"So, we stop aging as fast as humans at seventeen?" I knew that would be her favorite part. Tuck Everlasting is one of her favorite movies, she always gets so mad when the girl doesn't join them in immortality at the end.
"Yea, right now I'm actually seventeen, so you don't have to wonder how old I actually am," I say chuckling.
"Oh, I thought it was going to be like those vampire movies where you'd be two hundred and ten." We both laugh.
"That movie is not that bad, except for the sparkling part, I just do-"
Tes interrupts me. "Bryant?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm scared to rule over Altearis. I barely can lead a group project let alone all these people. I don't want to fail you." Tes admits.
I don't think I've ever seen Tes so worried like this. I pull her even closer to me and kiss the top of her head.
"Tes, you're a really strong person, and you know that you're not in this alone. You've got me, and you will never fail me because to me you are perfect. Even when you aren't perfect, you are still perfect to me."
Tes blushes and smiles at me adorably. We walk for about five more minutes, and along the way, we pass some small animals that Tes gushes over because they are so 'cute'. Tes is a sucker for cute animals.
We arrive at Seelina's house.
"Seelina will be out any second. I sent her a telepathic message to let her know we're here." Tes isn't paying attention because she's gawking like a big-eyed fish at Seelina's house.
Seelina's house is purple and styled like an old Victorian era home. It always reminds me of a castle because of its big tower and pointy roofs. The front of her house is lined with exotic flowers and plants. We do only build what we need, but we always go for extravagance.
"W... Wow," Tes stutters. "It's incredible."
"It is, isn't it," Seelina says appearing, startling Tes while doing so.
Seelina appears to be about in her late twenties, and is immensely attractive, before my dad met my mother he dated Seelina. Seelina has shiny blond hair and magenta eyes. Despite what people say about blonds, Seelina is very smart and is not one to be messed with.
"So, this is who everyone has been talking about. Bryant would be the one to fall in love with you." What does she mean by that? I look at Tes, she looks just as puzzled as me.
Seelina looks over Tes, sizing her up. "Hi, I'm Tes Elliot." Tes looks at Seelina shyly.
"Well, I am sure you know who I am, and I don't want to waste any time getting your training started. Go into the house, the bathroom is up the stairs on the right. There are workout clothes in there. Put them on and meet us in the backyard." Tes just nods and goes into the house.
"So, you thought she was a human?" Seelina asks, as we walk to the back yard. Seelina knows a lot of things about people that other Stameions don't. She is very powerful and mysterious.
"Yeah, and I was in love with her then, too. We've been friends since I met her in human preschool. I never mentioned it because I didn't want Scarlet to find out, you know how she can be."
"Oh, I know. Bryant, there is something about that girl. Something that draws me in, makes me instantly like her. I don't know what it is. I can't believe she wasn't aware of her powers either." Seelina wonders aloud.
That is the same thing I thought. There must have been some time when Tes accidently set off one of her powers. It seems weird that she had no clue.
"Seelina. I have to tell you something." I run my hand through my hair nervously.
"Go on," Seelina tells me.
"Seelina, I think a human is my soulmate. Not just any human, Tes's best friend. That's not even the worst part. Tes is my soulmate too." Seelina's mouth drops open.
Stameions have soulmates, you know that another Stameion is your soulmate when you touch. It's usually a unique feeling that runs through both people. I felt that with Tes on her birthday and with Skigh years ago.
"Are you sure?" Seelina presses.
"Yes, I felt it. What am I supposed to do?" I kick a stray rock.
"I know a lot of things Bryant, but I don't know the answer to this."
"It feels like my heart is being dragged in two directions. More for Tes because I've been suppressing my feelings for the other girl for years." Seelina squeezes my shoulder.
"I'm sorry, I will talk to your grandmother to see if I can find any answers for you." She smiles, I can see that she is worried though.
"Thank you."
We arrive at the backyard, which has a huge track and other equipment for training. The reason Seelina trains Stameions is mostly because we do have enemies in other realms. Our biggest enemy right now happens to be the Enderans. The Enderans are very powerful, more powerful than us. With Tes here, that might change.
"On a lighter note, I was ecstatic when I found out that she was one of us because you know what happens to humans here. If Scar figured out that I had any feeling for a human, she'd kill them."
"About that, there will be a cease in the killing of humans since Tes has come from the human realm. Of course, we cannot control every beast, but the humans will be unharmed by Stameions. This was decreed after a meeting this morning when we all found out about her. I can't imagine she would condone the killing of humans anyway." Seelina says to me.
This news makes me happy. Even though I don't like humans; I don't wish murder upon them.
Just then, Tes exits the back door in pink spandex shorts and a pink tank top. I wonder if Seelina knew that pink was Tes's favorite color. Maybe it was just a coincidence.
"Oh my goodness, I almost got lost. Your house is so big and gorgeous." Tes skips over to us with a huge smile on her face.
"Yes, I do cherish my home." Seelina looks towards her house then back at Tes. "Let's get started. Do you work out at all?"
"No, not really. I never thought I had to; I have a good metabolism." Tes looks embarrassed. I feel bad for her, she never thought this was going to be her life.
"Well that's about to change, I want you to run a mile around the track," Seelina demands.
Tes doesn't seemed fazed. She just nods and starts running. Wow, she looks good running in those workout clothes.
"Can't get your eyes off her, huh?" Seelina nudges me with a smirk on her face. Even though she is old, sometimes she acts like a teenager.
"She's beautiful, Lee. She is just amazing." I admit while watching Tes run.
She sees me and smiles but doesn't notice there is a hurdle right in front of her, and she goes down. I crack up and so does Lee.
"It isn't funny!" Tes shouts over to us.
Suddenly, my mind is bombarded with telepathic messages from...Tes? She is screaming names at me. Wait, how'd she do that? I haven't taught her that yet.
'Tes, how did you learn how to do that?' I send back.
'Well, I'm not sure. I just thought about calling to names and it worked. By the way, your fly is down. Ha!'
