Athena and Flynn walked side by side as they approached a happily dancing Julie, causing the pair to chuckle.
"Hey, what's up?" Julie asked, turning her full attention to the duo.
"Nothing. It's just nice seeing you back to your weirdo self." Flynn explained, causing Athena to nod in agreement as they both smiled at the Molina girl.
"Yeah, it's been way too long since we've seen you dance to yourself." Athena said, causing Julie to lightly chuckle. "We're glad to have you back."
"Thanks." Julie said, smiling at the duo.
"So how's the band? Still hot? Still talented?" Flynn asked, quickly looking around before whispering. "Still dead?"
"Amazing." Julie spoke. "Luke and I spent the whole weekend writing songs. Come on, you want to hear some?"
"Duh!"
"Of course."
Athena and Flynn shared a look as they followed Julie into the music room.
"It's like it was flowing through me like when I used to write with mom." Julie gushed, taking a seat at the piano.
"She's not kidding. They were in the studio every morning I woke up, and every night I went to bed." Athena explained.
"Yeah, sorry about that, Thena." Julie sheepishly smiles, causing the Michaels girl to wave it off. "So, this is the first song Luke and I wrote. Here's a bit of the chorus."
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
Great
Great
"Wow! I like it! Definite Gaga vibes." Flynn spoke, causing Athena to nod in agreement.
"Thanks." Julie grinned. "I think we have an anthem with this one. It's something my mom and I were working on. Luke and I finished it. Check it out."
And it's one, two, three, four times
That I've tried for one more night
Light a fire in my eyes
I'm going out of my mind
"That was beautiful, Jules." Athena said, sending the girl a small smile, causing the Molina girl to grin.
"And my girl's got a crush, and his name is Luke." Flynn teased, causing Athena to chuckle.
"What? No. Luke's a ghost." Julie quickly denied.
"A cute ghost." Athena teased the girl.
"With a perfect smile." Julie adds as a smile forms on her face. "What about you, Thena? Don't think we don't notice you and Reggie being friendly."
"W-what? Definitely not." Athena stuttered as her cheeks flushed red.
"Ha! I knew it!" Flynn exclaimed, pointing at the Michaels girl before looking between both of her friends. "Just remember they're made of air."
"Cute air." Julie and Athena happily spoke together, causing Flynn to smile.
"Just don't get hurt. Okay? Either of you." Flynn spoke, sounding concerned. "Obviously, there are connections. And Jules, everybody is wondering when you'll play again."
"Play again?" Julie questioned, confused. "We don't even have anything planned. Luke and I have just been focused on writing songs."
"Lucky for you. Your marketing team," Flynn said, pointing between her and Athena. "has been way ahead of you."
"Here you go." Athena said, handing the Molina girl a flier. You're playing the school dance tonight, and Flynn's DJing too. It's going to be so fun!"
"I posted it all over social media. You have an excellent marketing team." Flynn admits, causing the duo to grin.
"No. no." Julie quickly interjected, causing Athena's smile to fall. "This is in front of the whole school."
"Is that a bad thing?" Athena asked as Flynn's phone went off.
"Sorry, you already have 68 likes." Flynn says, grabbing Athena's arm and pulling her out of the room as Julie races after them.
...
"We're playing a school dance." Reggie asked, looking over the flyer before placing it on the piano. "Sweet!"
"It's not exactly the Strip." Luke sighed, causing the girls to chuckle.
"And you're not exactly alive." Reggie reminded the Patterson boy. "So you should be happy we have our first gig."
"I wasn't in love with the idea at first when Thena and Flynn showed me either, but it could be a great way for us to build a following, right?" Julie grinned.
"Totally." Athena agreed, nodding her head. "You guys should start off by playing wherever you can, whenever you can."
"No, you're right. Let's rock those kids' faces off and then play the clubs." Luke stated, pushing himself up from against the piano.
"And then record a single that gets a billion streams?" Julie added.
"I don't know what that is, but hopefully it gets us a manager and a tour." Luke admitted but nodded along.
"Then you guys release a bunch of hit albums." Athena squealed, bouncing up and down, causing the others to chuckle.
"Put out a country album that does surprisingly well." Reggie added, causing Athena to gasp.
"Yes! I love country!" Athena grinned, pointing at the boy, causing his mouth to drop open, causing Luke to quickly push his mouth closed.
"He kind of shreds on the banjo." Luke spoke, causing Reggie to quickly nod.
"Then I'll learn how to fiddle." Julie air fistbumped the Peters boy.
"And before you know it, we're being inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame." Luke exclaimed happily.
"But one of us isn't there." Reggie interjected. "Because we had a blowout in 2032. My money's on Alex. He's so sensitive."
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Luke asked. "Let's get rehearsing!"
"You kinda can't." Athena interjected, causing the boy to look over at her. "Alex isn't here yet."
"Oh yeah." Luke said, causing the group to look around the room, noticing the blonde drummer boy was missing.
...
Athena sat on a nearby chair as she watched Julie, Reggie, and Luke rehearse the songs Julie and Luke had been working on over the weekend.
"One more time." Luke called out, causing them to play the melody one last time before the music faded out.
The Michaels girl quickly began clapping her hands, causing the group to chuckle.
All heads turned at the sudden appearance of the Mercer boy, walking through the studio doors.
"Oh. Hey, Alex." Reggie greeted the boy, causing Athena to send him a grin.
"Where have you been?" Luke questioned. "We need to start practicing."
"Yeah?' Alex asked, confused. "For what?"
"Dance news!" Flynn exclaimed, throwing the studio door open as she burst into the room. "I don't have a date. But I don't care because I'm so psyched to see you guys perform."
"Oh man! We're playing a dance." Alex groaned.
"Of course, dude. That's how we get a following nowadays." Luke answered, taking a seat on the chair beside Athena, causing the Micheals girl to nod in agreement.
"Yeah, get with the program, Alex." Julie teased.
"What! The guys are here." Flynn spoke, waving behind Julie, causing Athena to chuckle and shake her head. "Hey, guys!"
"This way, sweetie." Athena called, causing Flynn to quickly turn around, waving in the other direction, making Reggie and Alex wave back even though the girl couldn't see her.
"Ok, well, now that Alex has graced us with his presence, can we start working?" Luke asked.
"Yes! We're going to rehearse." Julie filled the confused girl in. "You want to stick around?"
"I'm supposed to blow up 500 balloons for the school dance, but this sounds way better."
"Hey, Julie." Carlos rang out as he made his way into the studio. "Remember those orbs in Dad's picture's? I... I think they're ghosts."
Athena slowly sat up in her chair as her smile slowly went away. "What pictures are you talking about, buddy?"
"Here." Carlos handed the girl two different pictures; one picture had four orbs while the other only had one, causing the three ghosts to quickly crowd around the girl.
"It's the pictures dad was taking when he was planning on selling the house before he ended up changing his mind." Julie explained, causing the Micheals girl to hum.
"Right." Athena whispered, clearing her throat and looking up at the boy, giving the pictures back with a smile. "It's very interesting stuff you got there."
"I know, right. But don't worry. This room is... is... This room is clean. I'm not getting the ghost tinglies."
"Wrong again, little dude." Reggie spoke, causing the ghost of sunset curve to chuckle.
"Have no fear. If they come back, I will protect you, because I am the man of the house." Carlos explained.
"Isn't Dad supposed to be the man of the house?" Julie asked, crossing her arms.
"There can be two." The young boy spoke softly. "Dad needs all the help he can get, right? According to the internet, salt burns their souls out."
The smiles on all of their faces quickly went away as the boy pulled out a container of salt.
"A sprinkle will keep them from ever coming in here."
He began tossing salt from one side of the room to the other and managed to hit Alex, causing the blonde to yell out.
"No! No, oh, god, I'm..." Alex cried out, hunching over before quickly standing back up. "I'm fine. I'm fine. Totally fine."
Julie glanced over at Flynn standing beside her, clearing her throat, before she motioned towards her little brother.
'Oh! Carlos, you know who's hungry? Me. Um, salt me a path to the kitchen." Flynn asked, causing the boy to quickly grab his pictures before B-ling out of the studio with Flynn right behind him.
"Shall we try this again?" Julie asked once the duo was out of earshot.
"Yes, please." Luke begged. "But remind us later. There's some Sunset Curve songs to show you later."
"Oo, show me now."
"Yeah, okay." Luke spoke, reaching for his songbook, noticing a random piece of paper sticking out of the top of it. "Home is Where My Horse Is. Reggie, stop putting your country songs in my journal."
Luke placed the loose piece of paper on the bench beside Athena, causing the girl to pick it up.
"That was a gift," Reggie explained.
"Thanks, buddy." Luke playfully rolled his eyes as the trio approached the Molina girl. "I dog-eared the ones that I think you would slay."
"Oo, who's Emily?" Julie teased, causing Athena's head to pop up.
"That one's not dog-eared." Luke went to reach for the song book, but the Molina girl quickly stood up.
"If you could only know that I never let you go." Julie chuckled, glancing up at the boy. "Wow, Luke, I didn't know you were such a romantic."
"He's not. That one's actually about... Alex started, but was quickly cut off.
"No one." Luke gave Alex a look before turning back to Julie. "Uh, that's just something that I tried, and... But if you go to the next dog-eared page, I got a tune that's just... It's got a killer beat."
Athena bobbed her head as Luke played an all-too-familiar riff.
"So you're wanting to sample?" Athena asked, causing the boy to lift his eyebrow.
"What do you mean 'sample'?" Luke chuckled, confused.
"You know, sample someone else's music. Me and my mom used to sing that song at the top of our lungs in the car all the time with Athena and Aunt Sammi." Athena explained, causing Athena to smile slightly at the memory.
"It's a classic Trevor Wilson song." Athena added, causing Julie to nod.
"Nope." Luke disagreed, grabbing his book back. "It's a classic our song."
"Pure Sunset Curve. Never even heard of Trevor Wilson." Reggie shook his head.
"Yeah, maybe you're mixing it up, you know, with another song." Alex suggested.
"I don't mix up songs. Trust me." Julie stated.
"We used to be best friends with his daughter, Carrie." Athena added. "We used to be over at their place almost every day and would hear it all the time. Trust her; she knows that song."
"Here. I'll prove it." Julie pulled out her laptop as she tapped away on keys. "His first album had a bunch of hits, but none of his latest stuff is as good."
You could feel the tension in the room shift when Juliw turned her computer screen towards the three boys; it was as if the ghost saw a ghost.
"That's Bobby." Luke announced.
"Seriously, I just told you his name is Trevor." Julie spoke, not believing the boy.
"Ok, great. Then... Then he changed it, all right?" Alex snapped. "That's definitely Bobby. He was our rhythm guitarist."
"Trevor Wilson was in your band?" Julie chuckled, still not believing what was being told to them.
"I can't get over how old he looks."
"It kind of comes with the whole age thing." Athena shyly smiled, taking a step towards the group.
"He looks like a substitute teacher." Alex muttered, causing the Micheals girl to raise her eyebrow.
"What were his other hits?" Luke demanded answers.
"Get Lost."
"Yeah. I wrote that." Luke scoffed, taking off his guitar.
"Long Weekend?" Julie questioned, starting to realize the boy wasn't actually telling a lie.
"Yeah, Luke wrote that one too." Reggie answered.
"What about Crooked Teeth?" Athena asked, looking over at the boy, causing him to smile lightly. "I love that song."
"And that." Alex spoke, motioning towards the boy beside him. "It was about Reggie."
"What? I thought it was about you!" Reggie exclaimed. "I don't like that song anymore."
"Wait. This is... freaking me out." Julie spoke, trying to wrap the situation around her head. "Trevor's songs are kind of big to me. He's the one who introduced me to rock."
"It kind of sounds like Luke was the one who introduced you to rock." Athena corrected the girl.
"So this whole time, I thought you were connected to my mom. But instead, you're connected to Carrie's dad? Out of all people, it had to be the one girl who had it out for me." Julie sighed. "Back when Carrie and I were friends, the three of us used to talk about music all the time. He never mentioned you guys."
"And that's unbelievable!" Luke exclaimed, throwing the dart at the board in frustration before turning back to the group. "Ok, he can take all the credit, and he doesn't even mention us?"
"And he's rich." Julie added. "He has his own helicopter."
Luke let out a frustrated sound as he chucked the last dart with full force at the board.
"He has... He has a helicopter." Alex stuttered out, standing up off the ground with Reggie.
"With his face on it." Julie pulled up a picture of it.
"And he parks it in front of that hotel?" Reggie asks in disbelief.
"That would be his house." Athena corrected. "A mansion is too much space for just two people, if you ask me."
"Mansion?" Reggie spoke in a high-pitched tone.
"Dude, we live in a garage." Alex spoke, turning to Luke.
"It's not about the money. It's about the music!" Luke exclaimed.
"It's a little bit about the money, though!"
"A little bit about the money."
"He could have shared it with our families." Reggie stated. "Maybe then my parents wouldn't have had their house turned into a bike shack."
"What he did was steal our legacy." Luke paused before slowly turning to look over at the Molina girl. "Where does he live?"
Julie was quiet as she looked around at all three of their faces, not knowing what their plans were.
"Above the beach in Malibu." Athena softly spoke from behind them, causing them to glance back at her before Luke quickly grabbed his jacket.
"Let's go teach him a lesson."
"Wait. What? Guys!" Julie quickly stood up from her bench. "We have to rehearse for the dance. This is our first gig."
Without giving the girl a word, the three angry ghosts disappeared out of thin air.
"Ok, boys! Break time's over, K!" Flynn exclaimed, making her way back into the studio, clapping her hands. "Get to playing. Mama needs her eye candy."
"They're actually gone." Athena spoke, causing the girl to quickly straighten up.
"I think I just unleashed three angry ghosts on the world. But I think I know where they're going."
"You guys are going to have to go without me." Athena chimed up, causing Julie and Flynn to stop and turn to the girl. "But I'll meet you guys at the school. I promise I'll be there before you guys perform."
"You sure?" Julie asked, causing the Michaels girl to nod.
"Ok." Flynn softly spoke, sending the girl a small smile before grabbing Julie's arm and pulling her out of the studio behind her.
Athena let out a breath of air before looking over at the clock on the wall, causing her eyes to go wide.
"Shoot!" The girl exclaimed, grabbing her things before quickly racing out the door.
