Athena slowly made her way down the stairs, trying not to make a sound, but that failed when the girl let out a yelp when the ghost appeared beside her, making a ticking noise.
"Late again." Caleb stated, poofing on the railing beside the girl, scaring her. "I don't like lateness."
"I'm so sorry, Caleb." Athena spoke, lowering her head. "I got caught up at home. It won't happen again, I promise."
The man was silent, causing the girl to slowly look up as he was giving her a hard glare, making her quickly look away from his eyes.
"I would hate to have to take your powers away... but for now." Caleb demanded, holding out his cold hand, causing the girl to slowly look down at his outstretched hand before she slowly held her arm out, causing him to quickly grab it as a sudden jolt coursed through her body, making her let out a little whimper. "Now, go."
The man nodded to the stage, causing the girl to quickly scurry her way over to the other dancers.
...
Athena was putting on the final piece of her costume, the pink feathered headpiece.
"Did you hear? I guess Willie found some new ghosts and brought them tonight." Olivia, one of the background singers, explained, causing Athena to shake her head. "Yeah, I think Caleb is going to try and recruit them."
"Of course." Athena mumbed, feeling a small jolt, causing the girl to doubt over in pain.
"Hey, you okay?" Olivia asked, placing a hand on the girl's back.
"Just peachy."
"It's showtime." Caleb smirked, poofing out of the room before quickly poofing back out.
"I guess that's our cue." Athena smiled lightly, glancing in the mirror one last time before getting into her position.
"Did you miss me?" Caleb greeted the crowd of people, causing everyone to cheer. "I did too! Welcome to the party of your dreams! From the Egyptians to the Druids to the person sitting next to you, we've all wondered, 'Where do we go when that final light is snuffed out?'. Allow me to show you."
Let me introduce myself, we got some time to kill
Consider me the pearly gates to your new favorite thrills
We could go make history or you could rest in peace
But here there ain't no misery
'Cause on the other side we live like kings
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Let your body loose, let your body loose
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Show you a thing or two
'Cause you ain't seen nothing
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Everything has got a price but happiness is free
Just so happens, you're in luck, we've got a vacancy
We can set the night on fire and break out of the scene
Your soul print on the walk of fame on the boulevard of your wildest dreams
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do? Boys
Let your body loose, let your body loose
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do? Boys
It ain't bragging if it's true
Now you ain't seen nothing
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
The rain don't blind the rising souls
They got too much to see
I got your glamour, got your gold
Got all you'll ever need
Let me hear you now
The rain don't blind the rising souls
They got too much to see
Yeah
I got your glamour, got your gold
Got all you'll ever need
Yeah
Watch me make a move, watch me make a move, boys
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Watch me make a move, no, I don't disappoint
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do? Amen
Watch me make a move, I'm ya number one choice
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Watch me make a move, come one and give me that noise
A tomb with a view, ain't it something?
Yeah
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Ain't it the best?
Long live the dead
As the song ended, Athena ended up on the chair in front with her back to the crowd.
Caleb disappears, and the room erupts into cheers, making Athena do her final pose by bending back in the chair as she sends the crowd a smile.
But she almost fell out of her chair when she noticed the group sitting at the table right behind her.
"Athena?"
"Guys!" Athena panicked, quickly sitting up and turning around in the seat. "W-what are you doing here?"
"Willie brought us." Alex explained, pointing to the boy beside him, causing Athena to send Willie a knowing look.
"He said he knew someone who could help us with our little problem." Reggie added with a smile.
"Wait, what are you doing here?" Luke questioned. "At a ghost club... performing with ghosts..."
"You know... just hanging out." Athena replied, letting out an awkward chuckle as Reggie nodded in agreement.
Luke raised his eyebrow before he approached the girl, and before she had the chance to object or do anything, he stuck his hand out toward her.
Instead of his hand going straight through her like it does Julie, Luke poked the girl's arm, causing the girl to squeeze her eyes closed.
"Woah."
"See, I told you guys we bumped shoulders the other day!" Luke exclaimed, hitting Alex and Reggie on the arm.
"I can explain." Athena sighed.
"Wait, so you're a ghost?" Alex asked, confused, causing the girl to slowly nod. "How? I mean, people can literally see you."
"I guess you could say I made a deal with the devil." Athena muttered, letting out a light chuckle to herself, causing the boys to look at her confusedly before she cleared her throat. "I died in a car accident with my mom almost a year ago. As for the visibility thing, not everyone can see me, only those with whom I had a strong bond when I was alive. For example, Julie, Flynn, and Julie's family."
"Oh."
"Well, this is great!" Reggie exclaimed, causing Alex and Luke to give him a serious face as Athena raised her eyebrow, confused. "I mean, being dead isn't totally the worst; being dead kind of rocks! And now we have a new ghost bud."
"Just stop." Luke shakes his head, causing the boy to snap his mouth shut, making the girl chuckle lightly.
"I mean, what are the facts? What are the hard, cold facts?" Alex exclaimed, hitting his hands together.
"Alex, breathe... if you can." Athena trailed off, causing him to nod as he let out a breath. "I-I know you're stressed and anxious for concrete answers, but I don't have them. Sorry."
"No one really knows what's on the other side." Willie spoke, throwing his arm around the girl's shoulders and sending the boys a small smirk.
"Wait, let's rewind a bit. Why are you guys here again?" Athena asked, pointing at the three boys. "And don't say to see me because we all know that's a lie."
That caused all three boys to snap their mouths shut.
"Willie brought us here to meet his friend, Caleb." Luke announced, causing Athena's head to snap up to Willie. "He said he could wave his arms and make ghosts visible to lifers. Or you said something like that, right?"
"I told you, the guy's got skills."
"So, where'd he go?" Reggie asked, glancing around the room before looking back toward the ground and jumping when he noticed the man standing behind Luke. "Oh wow! Found him! Ha!"
"Hello, boys. Caleb Covington. Welcome to the Hollywood Ghost Club." Caleb smiled. "Enjoy the show?"
Yo, that was... I mean... Did you... Like..." Luke stammered out.
"I know." Caleb chucked, glancing over at Willie and Athena.
"This is Alex, Luke, and Reggie!" Willie quickly introduced the trio.
"Yeah, it's really nice to meet you."
"'Sup?"
"The pleasure is mine." Caleb said. "Nothing warms my heart more than sharing this magic with new friends. What do you say? Please, sit. Sit."
"I gotta go, but I'll come check in later." Athena spoke, placing her hand on Reggie and Luke's shoulders, causing them to look up at the girl.
"Yeah."
"Sure."
"See ya, Thena."
Athena sent the group a small smile, avoiding eye contact with her boss, before she disappeared into the crowd of people.
...
Athena performed her final song of the night with the ghost band when she watched Willie rush past her, heading backstage.
She continued dancing until the song ended and the bell chimed.
"Oh! The haunting hour is upon us." Caleb announced.
The girl glanced around the room, ready to sneak out, when she noticed Luke and Reggie dancing with Caleb's main girls nearby.
"You guys are still here!" Athena snapped.
"Yeah, this place is awesome!" Luke exclaimed, causing the girl to hit the boy on the arm. "Ow! What was that for?"
"You were supposed to be at the school performing with Julie hours ago." Athena said, pointing at the giant clock behind the boy's head.
"Twelve. How... How'd that happen?" Luke exclaimed, glancing over at the clock as the dancer tried to pull his focus back to her. "I'm sorry."
"Reggie." Athena called, tapping the boy, but he continued dancing, causing her to turn him around. "Reggie!"
"What the..." Reggie went to argue when he noticed the Michaels girl. "Oh, hey, Thena. Wanna dance?"
"I would love to, but now's not the time."
"We were supposed to be at Julie's school at 9:00." Luke reminded the boy.
"Oh shoot. That's right. Maybe we can still make it. Where's Alex?" Reggie asked. "We forgot..."
"Up here!" The blonde exclaimed, causing the trio to quickly look up. "Julie. I know. This place is... one sec. This place is some kind of time warp."
"Poof down here, bro. We gotta get going!" Luke said.
Once the boy was on the ground, the four ghosts went racing toward the door.
"This way, guys." Athena led but quickly came to a halt. "Wait, crap, I can't show up to school looking like this. I'll just meet you guys there."
"You sure?" Alex asked, causing the girl to nod quickly.
"Yeah, yeah. You guys go; I'll be right behind you." Athena urged the group to go before she turned around and ran backstage.
