The Micheals girl poofed into the music room, causing Julie to glance up from the piano.
"Hey," Athena said, sending the girl a small wave.
"Hi." Julie smiled lightly.
"There you are." Flynn's voice rang from behind Athena, causing her to quickly glance over her shoulder. "I've been looking all over for you. Why'd you run out of dance class so fast?"
"You ran out of class?"
"It wasn't a big deal." Julie explained, glancing from Athena back over to Flynn. "I just needed some air. It was getting a little intense in there."
"Oh, I noticed." Flynn smirked. "Dancing with a guy you've had a crush on for forever will do that to a girl."
"That's right! You had to do your dance for class today." Athena said, causing Julie to nod. "It sounds like it went great."
"Yeah, but the whole time we were dancing. I was thinking about Luke." Julie admitted.
"Seriously?" Flynn asked. "First off, called it. Second, I know you always want what you can't have, but Luke is next-level."
"I know. And now I think Nick likes me. Nick!"
"No way, really?" Athena gasped, causing Julie to nod.
"He totally does." Flynn grinned.
"But me and Luke just clicked." Julie sighed. "And he's so..."
"Not real." Flynn stated, causing Athena to look down. "You can make all the music you want with Luke, but... He'll always be a phantom. I would say the same thing to Thena if she were here."
"But she's sitting right there." Julie said, pointing at the girl sitting in the chair beside Flynn.
"Jules, there's no one there."
"Yeah, Athena's right there... She can't see you." Julie trailed off, causing the Michaels girl to smile sadly.
"It was only a matter of time."
"Julie, what's going on?" Flynn questioned, glancing at the chair beside her.
"You gotta tell her for me." Athena said, causing Julie's eyes to flick from Flynn over to Athena. "She needs to know."
"Athena's a ghost." Julie announced, causing Flynn to look at her for a second before she burst out into laughter.
"You may have got me with the guys, but there's no way our best friend is a ghost."
"I know it sounds crazy, but it's the truth, and she's in trouble." Julie explained, causing Flynn to stop laughing.
"What do you mean trouble?"
"She's fading away and is losing her powers; that's why you can't see her anymore."
"So, Athena's really a ghost and only you can see her?" Flynn asked, causing Julie to nod.
"At least for now. I don't know how much time I have before you're unable to see me too." Athena stated.
"Hopefully it doesn't get to that." Julie said, sending the girl a smile. "We'll figure it out."
"Thanks, Jules." Athena smiled lightly. "I think I'm gonna head home. I'll see you guys tonight."
"See ya."
"Bye, Thena." Flynn waved in the wrong direction, causing Athena to let out a chuckle as she shook her head.
Athena sent Julie one last smile before she poofed out of the school and back to the house and into the studio.
"I see chemistry."
Athena appeared to find Luke and Reggie's faces inches apart as they gazed into each other's eyes as Alex watched them from his drum set.
"Uh, am I interrupting something?" Athena asked, causing Reggie to quickly step back away from Luke as he cleared his throat.
"No, no, nothing at all." Reggie quickly said, causing Athena to chuckle.
"Okay, weirdos."
...
"What's up, everybody? Time to put your hands up, do a little dance, yup. Here's the new anthem from Julie and the Phantoms." Flynn introduced, causing the crowd to errupt with clapping and cheering.
Carlos and his friend walked toward the door of the studio, pulling them both open to reveal Julie was standing behind them.
The Molina girl stepped out of the garage with a smile on her face as she took a seat at the piano before she spoke into the microphone, "Thanks for coming, everyone."
The girl let out a deep breath before she began playing.
Running from the past
Tripping on the now
What is lost can be found, it's obvious
And like a rubber ball
We come bouncing back
We all got a second act, inside of us
I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of
Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
(On the edge of great) great
(On the edge of great) great
(On the edge of great)
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
We all make mistakes
But they're just stepping stones
To take us where we wanna go
It's never straight, no
Sometimes we gotta lean
Lean on someone else
To get a little help
Until we find our way
I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of
Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
(On the edge of great) great
(On the edge of great) great
(On the edge of great)
'Cause we're standing on the edge of-
Shout, shout
C'mon and let it out, out
Don't gotta hide it
Let your colors blind their eyes
Be who you are, no compromise
Just shout, shout
C'mon and let it out, out
What doesn't kill you makes you feel alive
Oh-oh
I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of great
Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
'Cause we're standing on the edge of grea
(On the edge of great) on the edge of great
(Great, on the edge of great) on the edge
(Great, on the edge of great)
'Cause we're standing on the edge of-
Running from the past
Tripping on the now
What is lost can be found, it's obvious
Athena sat on the edge of the roof with a small smile on her face as she watched the crowd erupt into cheers for the band before she disappeared.
...
"Willie please." Athena begged as she walked beside the boy. "They deserve to know."
"I can't." Willie shook his head. "I already hurt Alex once; I can't add to it. And you know what Caleb would do if he found out I told them."
"Would you rather Alex become a pile of nothing?" Athena asked, causing the boy to stop as he glanced down at the girl. "This is your chance to show him you're still the guy he was crazy about."
"What would I even tell them?"
"The truth." Athena sighed.
Athena let out a cry of pain as she doubled over as a harsh shock went through her body, nearly knocking her off her feet.
"He stamped you too." Willie asked in disbelief, reaching out to catch the girl.
"I'm fine," she coughed as she slowly stood back up. "Just please... talk to the guys."
"Okay."
Athena glanced over at the boy, sending him a small smile before she shakily held her hand out, causing Willie to grab it before poofing them to the Molina house.
"Why is this happening to us?" Reggie's voice filled her ears.
"It's because you guys are in serious trouble." Willie spoke, approaching the trio and gaining their attention. "All of you are."
"Willie?" Alex spoke, walking toward the boy.
"We need to talk." Willie declared.
The three boys hesitated before noticing a smaller figure approaching from behind the long-haired boy.
"Thena?" Reggie questioned.
"You guys should really talk." Athena said, glancing around the three, causing them to share a look before they looked back over at Willie.
"We're listening."
...
"All these jolts that we're feeling is because Caleb put his stamp on us." Luke asked as the five ghosts walked down the path of fame.
"He's threatened by you. He wants you under his control." Willie explained. "You're the only ghosts that can be visible to lifers without his help."
"And you let him do this to us?" Alex questioned, stopping in his tracks with Luke and Reggie.
"I can't stop him. He owns our soul." Willie exclaimed. "All right? He owns everybody's soul at that club."
"That means..." Luke trailed off, glancing over at the pale girl, making Alex and Reggie's heads shoot over to her.
"You too?" Reggie asked, causing the girl to slowly nod.
"I was alone and in a dark place, and I didn't know any better at the time." Athena sighed. "Guys, he means business."
"If he even knew I was here talking to you, he..." Willie trailed off, letting out a sigh. "He would destroy me."
"So if we don't join his club, the weird power outage thing continues until there's no power left at all?" Reggie asked, confused.
"Yes."
"What exactly happens when the power goes out?" Reggie questioned, causing Athena and Willie to share a look.
"There is nothing else; you're just... done." Athena replied.
"Uh-huh. Yeah. And what exactly do you mean by we're done?"
"You just... you don't exist anymore. Not anywhere." Willie answered.
"What?"
"So we have no choice?" Luke snapped. "We have to say goodbye to Julie, give everything we've built together, and work for Caleb. That's some club you guys got going on."
"But there is another option." Willie admitted. "That's why I'm here."
"There's another option?" Athena asked.
"If you guys could figure out what your unfinished business is and do it in time, you could cross over and be free from all of this."
"OK. So what's our unfinished business?" Luke asked.
"I don't know, but since you all died at the same time, it might be something you need to do together."
"Why should we listen to a word you say?" Alex snapped.
"Because I care about you, Alex." Willie admitted taking a step toward the boy. "And I hate that I brought you and your friends into this mess. I, uh, I can't be away much longer. I'm so sorry. For everything."
Willie glanced over at the girl, sending her a sad smile before he disappeared.
"This is all my fault." Alex started as he took the spot where Willie once stood, turning to face his friends. "I.. I met Willie; Willie introduced us to Caleb, and now... now we're screwed."
"We all wanted to go see Caleb." Luke pointed out.
"We have to tell Julie," Reggie announced.
"No, we can't do that. This just means more loss in her life." Luke quickly disagreed. "But if we don't want Caleb to own our souls, we have to figure out what our unfinished business is."
"Yeah, man. And how are we supposed to do that? All right? There was so much we wanted to do." Alex reminded the boy, and as he said that, Athena's eyes caught the bright sign above the boy's head.
"That night you guys died, there was one thing you guys had dreamed of doing together for so long." Athena spoke, glancing over at the boys before nodding at the sign, causing Alex to turn around.
"Play the Orpheum?" Reggie breathed out.
"Getting that gig was literally impossible. Even after people knew who we were, we had to hustle call in every favor we had." Alex explained. "It took us years."
All four teens bent forward as they groaned in pain.
"We don't have years."
...
Athena found herself walking down the street in Hollywood alone after the guys decided to go back to the studio and talk things over.
"It seems you've been avoiding me."
Athena felt her goosebumps rise at the sound of the voice, causing the girl to slowly turn around, coming face-to-face with Caleb.
"Caleb..." Athena breathed out. "Yeah, no, I'm definitely not avoiding you. I-I've just been glitching, and I'm fading."
Good. That means it's working." Caleb grinned.
"What? You did this to me?"
"Well, when I heard from Willie, there were new ghosts in town that had a special power... I was surprised, to say the least." Caleb said as he circled around the girl. "But you know what surprised me even more."
"Global warming."
"Funny, but no. What surprised me was that said ghosts were living in a studio—the same studio you happen to live in. Aren't I correct?" Caleb questioned.
"I can explain."
"No, need." Caleb held his hand up to the girl. "I thought you were a special one. One of the more loyal ones. I guess I was wrong."
Athena let out a cry in pain as she jolted forward.
"Ouch, that seemed like it hurt." Caleb hissed.
"Why are you doing this? I've done nothing to you!" Athena cried out.
"I want power, Athena, and in order to contain it, I need the boys on my side. And the only thing standing in the way of that is you and that stupid little band." Caleb snapped before his face turned into a grin. "But not for long."
"What do you..."
Before she could finish, the man kissed his hand before blowing air toward the girl, causing her to stumble back before she disappeared.
Caleb let out an evil laugh before poofing away.
