Chapter 13 || Intelligent But Naive

It was 15 minutes before you finally stood from your crumpled spot and an hour before you said another word to the others. In the mean time however, April took you to Donatello's lab and sat next to you in attempts of comfort. Despite that she barely knew what was going on, she could tell you were pretty broken about it.

Finally, you spoke up. "I'm sorry April." You muttered, leaning against her finally.

"It's fine (Y/N), you didn't know."

"But that's the thing!" You interrupted. "I should have seen this coming! I should have known something shady was going on! I was stupid to think mutants and armor covered men were alright."

There was a long pause from her. "I mean... I guess it should have raised a few red flags."

"And it did!" You turned to her, eyes conflicted. "I knew something was wrong, but I ignored it because I was having fun working with mutagen! I threw my subconscious out the window because it was fascinating! April that's how all the mad scientists start out! What if I-"

"(Y/N), we stopped you didn't we? You're not gonna be a mad scientist, you're fine." She gave you a comforting glance. "People make mistakes. We managed to stop you before it became to serious."

"Yeah, alright but what now?" You asked. "What am I supposed to do now? Quit my internship? I highly doubt The Shredder will let me go with all the information I have-" You gasped, an insane idea popping up.

"(Y/N), I don't like that look." April muttered as you turned to her with wide eyes.

"What if I work undercover for you?" You asked, grabbing her hand. "Just hear me out - I can make up for it! I can help you guys even more!"

"No way! That's insane!" She shook her head, pulling away from you.

"Please, April just consider it!"

"No way, it's far too dangerous!"

The commotion you two caused during your conversation caught a few prying ears. From the doorway, Donatello and Leonardo could be seen eavesdropping on your conversation. April caught sight of them and looked to them desperately.

"Umm what's the matter April? Is (Y/N) finally talking again?" Leonardo tried to play it off cool, Donatello nearly face palming.

You opened your mouth to speak, but April's worried voice interrupted. "She wants to work undercover!" April said, standing from her seat next to you on the work bench.

"I can do it! He likes me because I'm smart, just trust me, I can make it up to you!" You pleaded desperately. "I can get you the information you need to take him down-"

"No!" Leonardo's voice echoed through the lab and out into the rest of the Lair.

All eyes were on him, wide and surprised by his tone. "... Leo, please." Your words were barely over a whisper. "Let me fix my mistake."

It wasn't a mistake. It wasn't your mistake. He bit the insides of his mouth and looked away. You stood from your spot on the bench and walked to him. "I know I can help - so let me."

He shut his eyes tight, his eyebrows knitting together before he mustered up the courage to look you in the eyes again. His were a beautiful ocean blue, but you could tell he was the one drowning in the old dried tears of your eyes.

"Alright." He whispered.

"Thank you-"

"But you have to be careful!" He interrupted, his tone serious and worried. "You have to make sure he doesn't know what you're doing! If you're found or if he catches you..."

You grabbed his hand when he trailed off. "You did say you could lead the way whenever I needed." You gave him a reassuring smile. "I trust you'll do well."

You were escorted to Shredder's base for your internship again. This time though, you were greeted with a somewhat pleasant surprise as you arrived at the building.

"Tigerclaw, you're alright!" You called to him, relief washing over you.

"(Y/N), it's good to see that they haven't been mistreating you while I was gone." He looked worse for wear. He was battered and was wearing an eye patch and a chunk of his ear was missing and the list went on and on.

You hummed and nodded in response, your eyebrows knitting together. He was a little bit like a strict father figure because of the vibe he gave off, so naturally you were worried about the only person who could defend you if you were to get in trouble. Although you knew that when the time came, Tigerclaw would choose Shredder over you in a hesitant heartbeat.

He noticed your worry and gave a resonating chuckle. "Worry not, the ones who caused me such damage will know retribution." He said simply before leading the way to the underground lab. "I heard you went to retrieve Mutagen with some guards. It did not end well."

It was less of speculation and more as if someone had told him. "Yeah, I was left behind." You grumbled under your breath.

"So I heard." He replied with a sigh. "You were unharmed?"

You nodded. "Yes, although I had to make a run for it."

Tigerclaw chuckled and gave your head a gentle pat with his large paw. "Do not worry, the imbeciles who left you behind were punished." He reassured. "You may return to your work."

With that you bid him farewell and walked into the lab where Stockman and The Shredder (no longer Mr. Oroku) were. You didn't even step into the open door before you began to eavesdrop. They were speaking loudly, and Shredder was chewing Stockman out.

"You will synthesize the poison for Tigerclaw's mission!" Shredder demanded.

"B-but M-master! I-it will take much more t-time for it to s-s-synthesizzze!" Stockman replied, cowering as he was backed up against his desk.

"Then you will speed the process! I want Hamato Yoshi gone now!" He ordered, his voice booming so loudly that you flinched and the door slammed closed behind you, signaling your entrance.

Both of them looked to you, who was found shuffling your feet around and looking at the floor nervously. When you noticed their intense stares at you, you opened your mouth. "I-is this a bad time?" You muttered nervously.

Stockman and the Shredder straightened themselves and Shredder made his way over to you, placing a hand on your shoulder. "I apologize for the noise, child. I'm afraid that there is a deadline that is to be met. Would you please aid Stockman in synthesizing a compound for an old comrade?" He asked.

You'd heard the conversation - or at least the important parts - and he made poisoning a man sound like he was gifting him a cup of lemonade. "A-alright." You nodded, swallowing your fear.

"Thank you, child." He said simply before leaving the lab, the doors slamming shut behind him.

You looked up, expecting Stockman to start explaining, to which he only sighed and gestured at you to follow him. It seems that you would be learning how to synthesize poison... and it's antidote - just in case.

It was no wonder Raphael had gotten so mad at you before. You were doing such strange things and you never thought to question (and then run from) them. Although, now it was only a matter of time before you would ditch this horrific place. But one thing did worry you - what was Tigerclaw planning to do?

And who was Hamato Yoshi?
