Chapter II "Abomination" EDITED
My head felt like someone had grabbed a hammer and tried to bash my skull in over and over. I squeezed my eyes, wincing and trying to take the pain away. Slowly my body regained connection with my mind and I recognized the burning pain on my side. I willed my eyes to open and glanced down at my freshly bandaged torso.
"Damn." I hissed. They used that vervain and wolf's bane combo on me. Obviously only enough to knock me out.
"Glad they didn't decide to kill me."I mumbled bitterly to myself, carefully swinging my legs to the side of my bed as I sat on the edge. The throbbing pain was still there, but I wasn't going to be a good little girl and stay in bed. I grabbed my shirt from the night stand and with tactfulness slid it down my body.
It's going to take forever to heal from this, but it's not like I was going to let myself feel weak. I stood up and took deep, shaky breaths. Managing to subside the pain, I walked slowly towards my door and grinned when I found it unlocked.
As soon as I stepped out of my room I remained quiet, using my hearing abilities to track down anyone in the house. Theo was as usual in the kitchen running the staff through their jobs, as he could be a mean butler when it came down to it. I couldn't sense Dastan, but my aunt and uncle were over in the lobby talking to... a stranger.
It took every ability in me to sneak towards the stair well. I couldn't just show up, or else they might try to restrain me. I stood hidden behind the wall, and stopped breathing. A special trait of being a hybrid meant I could hold my breath for a very long time.
"I don't care what hardships she'll face! I want her out of my house!" I heard Olivia snap at the guest.
"I understand Mrs. Grey, but we can't have your niece in our school. She's a hybrid, and she will be targeted every day by other vampires. I'm declining for the safety of Dominyque." The lady stranger replies in a calm tone.
I remained silent. So she finally wants to get rid of me.
"Get out, I'll be speaking to your headmaster in person. I don't care how much money I have to donate, I want her in that institute." She hissed, and a minute later I heard the poor woman leave.
"Olive, you can't do that to Dom. Your sister wouldn't want that for her daughter." my uncle tried to soothe the rage that burned inside my aunt.
"What about what I want? Brad, I've been looked down and criticized by everyone because of her!" They both remained still, and I felt something within me crumble. I knew how she felt about me, but it was different to hear her say it.
"Olivia..." Brad pleaded, but she cut him off.
"It's not fair! I wasn't the one that slept with a freaking dog, why do I have to take care of her abomination?"
"Enough!" I heard Brad yell at her. That was a shock to me. In all of my years living with them, Brad had never raised his voice at Olivia.
"I hope Dominyque never hears what you just said, because that will be the day when you lose another family member." he seethed, and walked away.
~*~*~
It was too late to undo the damage that had already been done. I already knew I didn't fit in with this family. I didn't agree with 90% of what they believed in, and I didn't get along with any one of them. I felt no real connection towards them, and after what my aunt said about me, I knew Brad was right. I couldn't stay under this roof anymore. Besides, I'm eighteen and it's time to live my life independently.
I dashed back to my room and took out my Harley backpack, shoving my clothes inside. I took my underwear, my toothbrush, my deodorant, and my secret stash of cash. I reached towards my dresser and saw the picture of both my mom and dad sitting peacefully. They were at an amusement park at night, and it always made me happy to see how perfect they looked together. I took the picture out of its frame and tucked it inside my backpack with care.
Once I was sure that I had everything that I needed, I placed my hand on my wound. The pain wasn't as sharp as before and I was fine to travel, but not on my Ducati. That kind of hurt too, seeing that I brought that baby back from the graveyard.
I tiptoed out of my room again, and pin pointed where my aunt and uncle were. I couldn't sense my uncle for sure, but my aunt was in her study. What a perfect chance to slip out through the back. I gripped the shoulder straps of my bag and made my way down to the kitchen. All of the staff members were too into their own little world of pasta and sauce to even hear me go out the door. I was actually surprised by of my lack of distraught from leaving my bloodline.
I let out a sigh and went straight to the garage, seeing my beautiful black Ducati practically begging me to ride her. I bit my lower lip and just slipped on my helmet. Who was I kidding? I couldn't step away from my baby.
I took off. The feeling of dashing through the streets with my bike wasn't the same as my vampire speed or my werewolf self, but it was definitely filled with excitement and adrenaline just the same. I was free, not as a vampire or a werewolf, but as me.
As I drove towards the interstate heading south of New York, I thought back on all of those not so bad times with the family. I really didn't know where things started to go wrong. But then again it's not about when they realized that I was a mistake. What bothered me the most was living the life of a fantasy.
