. . .
Entering his warm room, that smelled of wood burning, he rushes over to his window. The window was left cracked open, and the cool wind was making its way inside. He opened it all the way, looking across to the other window on the other side that belonged to his friend. Nobody was at that window however, and Jaemin quickly rushes over to the corner of his bedroom; where a small box lay with pebbles from his front yard. Picking up 2 pebbles, he goes back to the window and gently throws one of the minerals at the window. After a moment of nothing, Jaemin throws the other one. Still, nobody comes to the window.
Jaemin frowns upon this, and rushes over again to pick up another pebble. He throws it at the window, the slightest bit harder than the last two, and waits. He lightens up the slightest seeing a shadow appear behind the window, however that quickly disappears noticing the shadow was much bigger than Jeno's. He furrows his eyebrows as it comes closer, and before he could get a good look the curtains close roughly.
Jaemin is left there in confusion, staring at the now closed off window with a frown. The shadow was too big to be Jeno's, Jaemin comes to conclusion.
'Could it have been one of his parents?' Jaemin thinks.
He decides to give up, and closes his window as well. He then hears a knock on the door downstairs, and his mother opening it. He hears two voices, and immediately recognizes one. Rushing downstairs he makes his way in view of the front door, and their stands the boy who was he was trying to see.
"Jeno!" Jaemin exclaims, running over to the boy. He then looks up at his mother. "Can we hang out?"
"Of course, just be safe." His mother says, and closes the door as both the boys stand outside of it.
"I was waiting for you at your window," Jaemin pauses, deciding if he should tell Jeno or not about the person he saw, "and didn't see you."
"Oh, I was riding my bike." Jeno admits, but keeps to himself about visiting his mother.
Jaemin looks over the boys shoulder, seeing his bike laying on his front lawn.
"Let me get my bike!" Jaemin says, and leaves Jeno to go to the shed on the side of his house.
Opening up the shed, he digs out his old bike and sets it up. Closing the shed doors he makes his way back to Jeno, who was waiting patiently with his own bike.
"Got it, where should we go?" Jaemin speaks up, and Jeno looks over at his bike.
"Anywhere is fine with me." Jeno says, and Jaemin thinks for a moment.
"Let's just ride around until we see something." Jaemin suggests, and Jeno nods.
They both get on their bikes, and make their way down the road into town. People are walking aimlessly on the sidewalks beside them as they stroll through, everybody wearing fall clothing to keep their skin warm. It was around fall time and the leaves have made their way to the ground, covering the grass and man built items. The colors were a wonder to look at, it almost looked painted if you stare at it for too long. The orange, yellow and brown made a hue that made everything feel snozy and comforting. Halloween was coming up very soon, and sometimes you'll see somebody handing out candy to people outside the grocery store.
Jeno loves fall the most, and prefers it over any other season. He loves the way it made him feel for some reason, and couldn't get the warm feeling out of his heart. It may have been the colors, or maybe it was the thrill of the cooler season settling in. He didn't know, nor did he think about it too much. After all, he had been thinking about his Halloween costume anyway.
"What are you gonna be for Halloween?" Jeno thinks aloud as he peddles closer to Jaemin.
"I don't know yet," Jaemin says, "I haven't thought about it. What about you?"
"A ghost probably." Jeno says, liking his idea of being a ghost.
"Then we can be ghost together." Jaemin suggest, and Jeno glances over to see the other boys side profile.
"Yeah, that'd be fun." Jeno admits.
Sitting in heart a flutter was happening that made his cheeks go warm, and it wasn't from the fall feeling.
Jeno and Jaemin stopped beside a curb in front of a big sign that read Pumpkin Maze, and hid their bikes under a tree with a bush. Making their way towards where a few people were crowded, they saw a lady in front of the entrance. Her hair was beach blonde, and her pale skin was canceled out by the brown sweater on her skin. She looked young, however her eyes were droopy and she had round big glasses that made them big.
"Next!" She yells, and the next person steps forward, handing her cash.
"It cost money." Jaemin says in a disappointing tone.
"I got this." Jeno says, and Jaemin watches as he walks up to the lady and starts conversating.
The woman smiles at Jeno with pearly white teeth, and her eyes squinted almost closed. However, Jaemins eyes were focused on somebody else's smile.
Jeno suddenly turned towards him, and so did the lady. The boy waved at Jaemin to come, and so the other boy did. Walking up to the stand, he meets eyes with the woman who smiles generously at him; in which he does the same.
"Let's go." Jeno says, and they scurry into the entrance of the maze.
"How'd you do it? We had no money." Jaemin questions curiously.
"I used visit her a lot, she used to babysit me when I was young." Jeno admits.
"You know a lot of people in this town." Jaemin compliments, and Jeno nods.
The mazes walls were large bushes stacked together, and it was made to where you couldn't see through them at all. The ground was grass, however it was covered in leaves and hay. The boys made turns left and right, u turns, ran one way and then the other, but didn't really have a goal of getting out.
Walking beside each other, the comfortable silence was encased around them and both of their hearts were beating faster than usual. Jaemin was secretly building courage to make talk with the other, and balled his hands into fist as he bit his lip.
"Hey J-"
"Do you hear that?" Jeno interrupts, and both boys stop in their tracks.
"What is it?" Jaemin whispers.
"Meowing." Jeno replies, and he starts walking a certain way.
Jaemin follows, slightly confused as he doesn't hear anything. However, the more Jeno keeps walking, the more he hears a small meowing getting louder. They approach the soft meowing of a black cat.
"Wow, you have good hearing." Jaemin comments, and Jeno giggles.
Both boys crouch down, and start petting the cat that was quite skinny and meowing. The cat leans their head on their jeans, letting itself glide across both of their legs.
"I think we should take it home." Jeno suggest.
"I can't take care of it, my dads allergic." Jaemin says as he watches Jeno pick it up.
"I will." Jeno says. "What should it's name be?"
"Dunno, never owned an animal." Jaemin admits, and they both start making their way out of the maze. "I can help take care of it though."
"I know!" Jeno lights up. "How about Spooky?"
"Spooky?" Jaemin asks himself, deciding if he liked the name or not.
"What about Ghost?" Jeno suggests again seeing Jaemins face.
"I like Ghost." Jaemin states, and they both smile at one another.
Jaemin looks away first quickly, and they both walk out of the maze talking about who will do what for Ghost.
