Jeno woke up pretty late in the morning after the night with Jaemin, as he never really stayed out past 9. He never really had a reason too. The boy didn't have any friends before Jaemin, and nowhere to really go. It's not the reason he wanted to be home, his house was calm; in most ways. It's calm whenever they aren't home.

Jeno opens his window, not expecting Jaemins to already be open. The boy looked like he'd been waiting for him, and Jenos heart felt a sudden flutter.

"Jeno! Finally, I thought I would have to throw another rock!" Jaemin exclaims with a smile.

Jeno was confused at this, because he didn't hear any rocks. He must've been in a deep sleep. He brushes it off though, not thinking too much of it.

"What do you wanna do today?" Jeno inquires, leaning over his window.

"Dunno. However, my mom said she'd buy me a enclosure for a pet! I was thinking a lizard!" Jaemin explains.

"Oh! I know where to find them!" Jeno admits with a smile.

"Ok! Let's go catch one!" Jaemin says hurriedly.

They both take their separate ways to get ready, and headed down the stairs of their houses. Jeno is the first to emerge from his house, Jaemin coming out not a second later.

"Beat you!" Jeno yells, and Jaemin scoffs.

"I'll beat you one of these days." Jaemin promises, and Jeno laughs.

"Let's go!"

They both take off running down towards the creek, staying close by one other as they run through the trees. The sun only came in where the leaves let it, and danced across the forest floor when the wind decided to visit. Giggles filled the silent air as the two young boys raced each other to the creek, leaves rushing a long side them where their feet landed.

They approached the edge of the creek, and caught their breaths while smiling.

"You should do track!" Jeno suggests, looking at the other who was close to coughing his airway away.

"No way!" Jaemin pants out, and Jeno laughs.

However, that smile quickly disappears when he looks over the creek side. Jaemin notices and looks over to where he was, seeing 3 bikes sitting there without anybody.

"What?" Jaemin inquires, feeling a little worried by the look on Jenos face.

"We should go.." Jeno whispers, now looking paranoid as he looks around them.

"Why? What's wrong Jeno?" Jaemin questions curiously.

"Those bikes...we should just go." Jeno quickly says, but before they could turn around the sound of walking and laughing comes in contact.

Jeno freezes, his feet paralyzed from moving as he feels an anxious feeling bubble up from his gut.

Jaemin is quick to snap his head the direction the noises were coming from, and to his curiosity there was 3 kids walking their way back to the bikes. They looked to be around his age, however they did not look nice. Jaemin furrows his eyebrows, glancing over at Jeno who looked like he was gonna cry.

"Hey! You there!" A voice snaps, and Jaemin looks over to where the kids were staring at them.

"What?" Jaemin questions, and Jeno glances over at Jaemin with concern in his eyes.

"Oh look! It's baby Jeno! Hi baby!" One of them mocks, a boy with blonde beach hair and dress fitted clothes.

Jaemin dislikes the nickname, and frowns deeply as he notices Jeno lean his head down slightly.

"Leave him alone!" Jaemin yells, and a second of silence fills the air.

"What did you just say?" Another one questions with a tempted voice, the larger one of the group who had brown hair and cheap clothes on.

"I said, leave him alone." Jaemin states firmly, now feeling a rush of confidence run through him.

Jaemin and the boy were the same height, and Jaemin could tell he was the 'leader' of their small group. More so, bullies identified in his mind.

"What if we don't? What are you gonna do? Huh tough boy?" The other questions with a smug look. "You must be new around here, you don't know your place yet huh pretty boy?"

They both inch closer, and Jeno is late to notice. However, he quickly darts out his hand and grabs a hold of Jaemins arm, stopping the boy in his place. Jaemin turns around swiftly to meet Jenos eyes, which looked frightened, and his heart dropped.

"He's not worth it Jaemin." Jeno whispers, and squeezes his arm slightly.

Jaemin glances at the other boy, who was waiting for him on the other side, and returns his gaze back to Jeno.

"Let's go." Jaemin says, letting Jenos grip loosen before he made his way back to land.

"Coward!" The boy with blonde hair yells with a goofy smile.

Jaemin decides to ignore the mocking chants behind them as they walked back up the hill through the forest. Jeno was quiet for the most part, which was concerning Jaemin.

"Hey-" Jaemin starts.

"We're you really gonna beat him up?" Jeno blurts out.

Jaemin glimpses over to the boy, who wasn't even looking at him.

"I don't know." Jaemin admits, that feeling of confidence washing away quickly.

A small breath of a laugh escapes Jenos lips, and Jaemin couldn't help but smile as well. He felt the sensation of relief run through him.

"That was really cool. Your really cool Jaemin." Jeno compliments, and Jaemin feels his heart beat speed up.

Jaemin stares at the other, a light blush on the others cheeks making it glimmer in the sunlight of golden hour. Jaemin quickly looks away, flustered as his walking goes uncoordinated.

"Thanks." Jaemin whispers, feeling butterflies in his stomach and a tube stuck down his throat.

Jeno giggles, and elbows the other playfully.

"Your weird." Jeno jokes, and Jaemin laughs a long.

'Oh, if only you knew.' Jaemin thinks to himself silently, staring at the other boy walking beside him.

They both got to the place their houses sat, and it almost felt saddening as they had to separate.

"You wanna stay over?" Jaemin suggests, not wanting to split from the other.

"I can't tonight.." Jeno says uneasily, a small yet shaky smile say upon his lips. "See you tomorrow?" Jeno inquires, studying the boy next to him.

"Of course." Jaemin replies with a small smile.

They wave each other bye, as hugging at that moment just didn't feel right to either of them. Jaemin is quick to say hi to his parents, and then rush up to his room. Opening his window, he sees Jeno was already there.

"Beat you again~" Jeno teases, leaning out his window.

"Yeah yeah." Jaemin pouts.

"Sorry we couldn't catch your lizard." Jeno apologizes.

"It's alright. Who were those kids anyway?" Jaemin asks curiously.

"Just some bullies that like to pick on me." Jeno says lowly.

"Well, they're ugly, so they better a pick a problem." Jaemin jokes, and they both burst out in laughter.

"I've never met somebody like you Jaemin." Jeno admits, and it was true. However, he's actually never met anybody and been friends with them.

"Like what?" Jaemin leans in.

"Cool, I guess." Jeno giggles, and Jaemin felt the familiar feeling of butterflies.

"I've never met anybody like you too Jeno." Jaemin whispers.

"Like what?" Jeno inquires.

"I don't know, just so...fun." A million words ran through Jaemins mind, however he could only get out one.

Jeno smiles genuinely, feeling an excitement run through him. That was first compliment somebody had given to him in so long, he forgot the feeling.

"Thanks." Jeno says shyly.

A woman's voice yells itself upstairs inside Jaemins room, and he sighs with a frown.

"I have to go. It's family dinner night tonight. Bye Jeno." Jaemin waves.

"Bye Jaemin." Jeno waves back, before the window to Jaemins closes.

Jeno stays there for a moment, staring at the boys window, waiting for the light to shut off. It did in a matter of seconds, and Jeno was left under a street lamp. It was silent as he stood still in his position, leaned over a window with his head out. It almost felt deafening as the wind was calm, and the night was cold. The familiar sense of loneliness crawling back to him up his spine to his head.

Because he knew no matter how hard he tried, he could never be the boys number 1.
